LATEST FORECAST ON PAGE 2 Post #23

Since JJ refuses to play tennis today, I've amused myself putting the rankings information in a format that makes sense to me, that I can't find anywhere else. I might as well share it here. I've set it out as a prediction for the coming week, subject to current week's points.

In the spirit of making a rod for my own back () the plan is to update it weekly / whatever

 I was about to ask you what should we do with it and then I saw that you plan to update it every week.
Good job, Ken! :yeah:

What does purpleness mean?

*sob* Maria had such a good start to the year... (yeah, I realise that's not what I'm meant to be concentrating on...) ;)

Yeah - colour codeing would be good to understand - but hey - I'm in awe of ANYONE who understands rankings....

It's the 17th tourney (where applicable) that will drop off the point total if the player gets more points in the current week's tourney.

Well actually I thought it would be useful, for anyone who's interested, to see at a glance what's 'going on' with the top players, where they got their points and when, on an ongoing basis.

I put it in as a week-ahead prediction so that anyone who's minded to can work out how many points extra are needed (relative to another player) in the current week by JJ (or anyone else) to move up/ avoid going down etc.

And the sand-coloured tint is for points that count towards the total.

Non-tinted points don't count.

I'll put a key when I update again

Wow... if we come up with any magic solutions to better the Pick thread, will you be my spreadsheet programmer?!

I think this thread should help everyone understand rankings a bit better if not completely. :)

OK this is how it looks for next week

(Assuming I haven't made a mistake )

JJ moves back to 2nd place, 97 points adrift of Ana, and 60 points ahead of Kuzzy. But Kuzzy has 275 points to defend at New Haven (haven't checked yet to see who might be playing there)

Proviso:
If Dinara or Elena win gold, they'll move up to 5th place.

With the Olympic results all in, and none of the top girls playing at New Haven, we now know the situation for the start of USO.

No change for Ana and JJ at the top, but Sveta takes a knock from the loss of New Haven points (she won last year).

As a result, Serena moves up to #3. She's in a position to challenge at USO for the top now, with similiar points to defend as JJ.

@ Cat:
Maria will drop to #6 from tomorrow (18 Aug) but when Elena's New Haven points come off Maria goes back to #5 ;)

I'm quite happy for Serena strangely. The rankings look a bit more like they should now!

Just thinking about putting that spreadsheet together is making me dizzy. It's such good work. :)

There are like 6 different people who can be #1 after the US Open. It's craziness. :speakles:

Just thinking about putting that spreadsheet together is making me dizzy.

It had become like an itch I couldn't scratch. It all came to a head over the last few weeks, when there was all this talk (on GM) of would JJ/ wouldn't JJ get to #1, and when and for how long, and I couldn't get a handle on it. I just had to do it

It's such good work. :)

Aw shucks

Over on GM they seem to think that this is against nature. They like to be dominated, it seems :awww:

Going into USO with last year's points removed, JJ has slipped a little further from the top and is 207 behind Ana.
Sveta has lost 975 points since the start of New Haven and even a Final appearance won't guarantee a return to the top 5 unless one of the others suffers an upset.
Elena and Dinara are neck-and-neck and both are within reach of the top if the leading three make early-ish exits.
Venus (currently #8) has 2136 points and cannot threaten JJ or Ana, even if she wins it.

Good work Kenneth.

This colour coded chart makes the ranking shenangians much clearer.

On the tough, high-speed New York street circuit,
Ms Jankovic is gonna need to execute a couple of neat overtaking manoevres.

This makes it all so much simpler, thankyou!!

And I'm missing Maria already. :awww:
