View Full Version : How Would Masha Have Done In These Olympics?

Given how lame these games have turned out to be, with all the injuries and certain top stars losing early, Masha may have missed an almost certain gold medal here.

I just hope she changes her mind about the USO as these players will be about to drop by then. ;)

Depends on what side of the draw she was on. But I think she would've probably got bronze.
Unless she played Safina for it, :p

I was talking about Sharapova from like the early part of the year, not the injury one.

She would have withdrew before they happened after being drawn against Serena in R3.

She was holding a major during Athens, and holding a major now.
Still hasn't been to an Olympics.
The next one is at Wimbledon in 2012.

The way that Masha has played post Charleston, she'd be lucky to get to the quarterfinals. Prior to that, yes, she would've been a medal favorite. Not so much now. Her shoulder isn't letting her play at a high enough level again.

An almost certain gold medal? She plays like crap since RG because of that shoulder injury, I don't even think that she would have been on the podium.

Well, whatever. These Olympics aren't the same without her. She brings so much excitement and glamour and all that is missing.

Plus, I really miss the shriek!

That's funny how you noticed that,

At this point, she would've progressed comfortably into the 3r, just like most of the top players have.

Anyway yeah, it was funny.

this may sound mean but I don't mean it to sound that way. I was watching the mens swimming events and could not believe how many of them are shaped like Sharapova. They have broad shoulders and small waists. Maybe Maria would have been a really good swimmer. She has the body for it. What do you think

She's a 3 time slam winner at age 21 who eans more than any other woman athlete.
She probably chose the right sport.

The Real Sharapova : Gold Medal Without A Doubt

The AO Maria would have been a medal favorite, the Maria now would have gotten over the first rounds (maybe) with a lot of fighting spirit and ruined her shoulder even more.

The shape of her body is a bit similar but she would need to build a lot of muscles then

She would definitely like the surface.

A reasonably healthy Sharapova would have been Gold medal favorite, no doubt at all about it. You all know what she can do when doesn't have the shoulder pain.

Andrew Laeddis
Aug 12th, 2008, 07:27 PM
She would do well. She wouldnt have to endure many long rallies as this ultra quick surface favors her game.

well she would have been the third seed, and if the draw stayed how it is now then she would have faced li na, who would be tricky for any player. especially an out of form masha! but if early 08 maria turned up then she would definately be taking home a medal...

just sad that she isnt there, hopes she can make the US open...

What if....well nobody knows we can only speculate
I think she would have gone far, maybe bronze ...if it wasn't for
her damn shoulder she could go for even silver or gold.

Your statement implies as if Maria has been to the Olympics before when in fact she hasn't.

So the Olympics is still the same as she has never been lol!

You can't say a tournament is not the same without a certain player if they've never entered it before.

Obviously she would have been a medal contender if healthy.

If she stupidly decided to go to the Olympics instead of rehab then she might've won a round, struggling.

Injured Sharapova would lose in the first or second round depending on her round...People think with a torn rotator cuff she would medal? :help:

and if Seles wasn't stabbed she'd have 20+ slams.
and if Serena didn't get injured during her peak in 03 Henin never would have won that USO and become #1...
