Chanda Rubin! I recently moved to Louisiana from California (2 weeks ago...ugh don't ask why lol) and I was in Lafayette today having lunch with my friend at a place called Southside Bakery. We're finishing eating and Chanda Rubin walks in!! I was so starstruck...he didn't even know who she was but for me it was my first celebrity encounter so I was excited. I talked to her briefly because I didn't wanna seem pushy and she was very nice and soft spoken. I told her I was a fan of hers and that I thought she did a great job commentating at Indian Wells and Miami and she said thanks. I asked her if she was gonna come back and play and she said no that she's just staying busy and keeping a low profile. She is still very fit, her body is on point and she's much prettier in person. Well just thought I'd share this with people that would appreciate it...I called some friends to tell them and they all asked who she was? lol

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chanda_Rubinsad to hear she's not coming back. although not at all surprised. too many injuries and she's a very bright girl so she'll have a lot to look forward to post tennis.

I think it's time to leave this board for good. i somehow feel dirty just coming here to support Patty

That's nice to hear, Chanda always seemed like a very well put-together person and very respectful. As switz said, she will have many opportunities to do other things with her life.

 I always liked Rubin. She had a nice all-court game and a great personality. Unfortunately for her, every time she started peaking, her knee injury flared up. All the starts and stops really ruined her career, but at least she got to #6 in the world.

She seems soooooooo nice. The sad thing is that she had a injury plagued career. But also she was close to becoming the first african american woman to win a slam in the open era.

Why isn't she coming back? She played so well last year at the USO against Vaidisova.
I miss you Chanda:bigcry:

Awww Chanda  I miss her...
Good to hear she's well though :)

This reminds me, a while back I saw Barbara Schett in my hometown  She was walking into a shopping centre to get some groceries, and I was like 'hey she looks familiar, oh that's Barbara Schett ...Noosa is quite popular with the tennis players, not only does Barbara Schett live there with her husband, Josh Eagle, but so does Pat Rafter, Evonne Cawley and Thomas Muster did for a bit.
