Absolutely terrible, very cold. Chinese architects don't seem to know what a proper tennis stadium should look like. God, this bizarre concrete roof with big holes in it looks like a jail. What can you do , this is Communist China...

What can you do , this is Communist China...

Yeah, right, Communist China explains it all.

Incidentally, the new Bejing Tennis Center was designed by Bligh Voller Nield, one of Australia’s largest architectural practices.

I don't like it, looks very bland. Also, it might be due to the recent rain or pollution, but there never seems to be a sunny day- the sky is always grey/white.

Whoever did it, it was done according Chinese guidelines. And let me say from the outside it looks like a cake or some mignature modern piece of art. Ugly.

I actually really like the design of the stadium and the entire complex. I think the lotus flower design for the main stadium is very unique--quite unlike anything else in the world! It's nice that the tennis world will be left with such a beautiful complex after the Olympics are done.

OP gets a bad rep. You don't like the design, fine, that's totally subjective. But to say that it's all down to "COMMUNIST CHINA" is just downright stupid and despicable. You need help. FAST.

Ive been studying Architecture for 5 years and I think its great! By far the most interestingly designed tennis stadium I have seen. It actually has an beautifully designed exterior aesthetic, which most dont have, and its light and interesting inside too.

As for the OP dissing architecture in China, he is talking crap and might wanna take at look at these examples to see that Chinese architecture is far from cold and boring;

anything that concerns china is not good enough for them.
kind of ironic that even though china opened it doors to the outside world, the others remain close-minded to them. :o

But the Beijing stadium is designed by the same designer who also designed the tennis stadiums at both Sydney and Athens Olympics.

Why people are so negative against China?
If it is good, people would say: "Oh, it is not the Chinese's original idea, this comes from a non-Chinese designer."
But if it is bad, people would also say: "the designer had to follow every rules Chinese impose. He/She had no freedom to do what he/she wanted."
This is getting ridiculous, everyday people have a new topic to bash Olympics and blame everything on China. Apparently, Chinese could invent rules as many as they want and how they want.

Because China is so different, and they think only they are the standards for being good or bad, they just think China should be like this or that under their standards.:p:p

The lotus shape is so unique. And lotus in Chinese culture means pure, graceful. There is an ancient poem about lotus:"The lotus grows out of mud, but it is clean"(sorry, my own english translation, not fully illustrates the Chinese poem.)

French people always find a way to complain about something. It's a nice stadium. I think the French Open stadiums are even more ugly, if not, the ugliest in the world, by far.

I personally think two major tennis stadiums in China(OG and ATP TMC) are creatively great. :hearts:
OG main stadium looks kind of "cold"(actuallly not) because the designer wanted to show us a atmosphere of ancient olympics in the whole architecture,so he uses limestone instead of some modern materials.Besides, the lotus shape is not only unique, and it can also save 30% electricity power at night.:yeah:
