Hey folks

After the pull-out of Ivanovic and the 1r defeat of Kuznetsova, only Jelena Jankovic out of the current top 3 in the Olympic tournament. Do you think she will save their increasingly poor reputation and manage to medal or depart early on like most of their recent tournaments?

I like all three players, but I am starting to think that they are the worst top 3 in history..

I completely agree with you. I have friends who don't watch tennis anymore because of this fact. They say they'll tune in again when the real top 3 show up again.

I agree, they must be the weakest top 3 in history. If the thread about JJ's movement was anything to go by then she won't save them but who knows...sometimes she's injured one day and fine the next...though this seems to be one of the times when she's actually properly injured.

Serena's in the top 4 again though...maybe she can help!

more than likely not... is she In Venus' Quarter or Serena's?.... IF VEnus possibly if Serena Not likely.... Anyways with Kuzzie lost Serena will more than likely be top 3 after the Olympics so its ok.....

After this tournament it is very likely that Serena will be number 2 (depending on how far Jankovic goes) so things will be better, :yeah:

Don't worry Serena will save the WTA.

But this time you have to thank her

IMO the whole field is very weak at moment, as far as consistency in concerned, every one in a while someone gets to the spotlight but at the very next tournament she either pulls-out or gets beaten by a lower-ranked oponent. that goes for everyone: the williams sisters, ana, jelena, sharapova. no one is consistent at the moment...
however that doesn't neceserily has to be a bad thing , if nothing, it's more fun, and less predicitve this way.

the tour schedule is very tough, and plus, the girls now have much more off-court duties, and interests.

maybe the really consistent player at the moment is safina, but i wonder how long will that last? we'll have to wait and see...

that's not right too, she plays on such a limited schedule. it is more fair for a player that overplays to be on top then the player as inconsistent as serena or venus. true they are great champions, but you can't live on old glory, and be on top. that's not good either...

Quite frankly - Jelena should not even be playing with her injury. She has no chance in the state she's in with her leg injury she picked up in training to have a hope in hell of winning any medals. I really wish she could be injury free for once. This has been a horrible year for her with injuries.

So a player who is 41-13 this year hasnt ever made a grand slam final and has 1 tournament win this year has done more and should be ranked higher than a player who is 33-5 with 3 tournament wins this YEAR has made a Slam final in each of the past two years....

lol Inconsistent?!?!?! Serena has been very consistant this year the only bad tourny she had was the French....

Serena's problem is her performance in the slams - both the FO and the AO where she was beaten by an injured Jelena. If you decide you aren't going to play much - you rightly have to do well at the slams to get the #1 slot. And Serena hasn't.

Un-huh.... but my point was that the OP i replied to claims Serena is inconsistant.... when clearly thats not the case....
