From what i saw Venus was pretty good :) Keep it up for the next round.

Venus looked hot too :D

Meanwhile, Bacsinszky was sweating so much she looked like a drowned rat  :awww:

From what I saw (the second set) she looked to be in control. The backhand wasn't on but it didn't really need to be for her to get this win. Just make sure you turn it on soon Vee. :D:hug:

Great, solid opener for Venus. Didnt go for anything too flashy, just kept the ball deep and some nice angles off the forehand to open up the court:)

I tell you what, Venus is in some fearsome service rythm right now, it's going to be tough to break on this surface:D

I'm pleased with the scoreline because Timea has some game and was hitting the ball superbly for most of the first set. Venus stepped it up though:bounce:

Yeah backhand return was a bit erratic, but she knows how to correct these things;)

:yeah:

Saw from the end of the 1st set to the end. Venus has carried on where she left off at Wimbledon. She looks very confident (as she always does on the US HC stretch after winning Wimbledon) and is serving extremely well. Big 1st serves, aggressive 2nd serves. She was moving well, keeping her UE's down, moving to the net at any possible opportunity. Her return wasn't that good today, but considering how far she stands in, she's always going to have days where this will happen. The court seems to suit her relatively well. It will undoubtedly take a big effort to beat her here and at the USO. Plus this year, here is no in-form player to stop her, Henin 07, Clijsters 05.

Bacsinszky made it somewhat of a contest. She was being aggressive, trying t force the issue all the time. Her gameplan however was very risky. She had way to many needless UE's, and considering Venus's serve was untouchable for her standards today, she needed to serve out of her tree to stand any sort of a chance, which she didn't. Bacsinszky found it impossible to hit an outright winner off her useless whippy FH, infact hitting any winner at all off that side was a big struggle. Despite not being a particularly good mover, she defended quite well, often coming up with some excellent defensive slices from outside the court that landed very deep and gave her a chance to get back in the rally. Overall, she just didn't have enough game to really take it to Venus.

BTW, I thought it was funny at 5-1 2nd set, when Bacsinszky held for 5-2 and screamed C'mon and Venus gave her such a dirty look.

according to a comment on the ITF tennis Olympic tennis site Venus was hanging with Roger and Lebron before her match:

"Just been doing some superb star spotting. Roger Federer and Venus Williams have both just been hanging out with Lebron James, Michael Redd and Chris Paul. Got a sweet picture I will try and put up when I get a second"

Watched this by accident as I was zapping and found it at the local sports channel, which I didn't even know was broadcasting Olympic tennis.

Few long rallies, many aces and unreturnables, surface seems to be US hardcourt style (i.e. quite fast).

Bacsinszky is one of the few Euro youngsters who has a game more suited to fast surfaces. Her strengths (serve) and weaknesses (FH) remain the same as the last time I saw her play (Antwerp IIRC), but she's clearly working on her game. Her FH remains loopy, but she's working on using it to move the ball around and hitting it deeper, with that "dipping" spin Cornet uses. She still tends to run around her FH to return serve, and overall her FH remains shaky and will revert to a moonball when under pressure. She moves the ball around well, but her footwork and movement remain subpar and that means her chances in long rallies aren't good. Best news is that her CC BH seems to have become a kill shot, or close to that at least, and this increases Timea's chances of becoming more of a first strike player.

Her serve is excellent - very reliable and unusual in that it seems to be more effective to the ad side than to the deuce. Her sidewinder to the ad court is among the best you'll see, and her flat serve to that side is very good as well. Her kickers remain quite good, and her 2nd serve is usually superbly placed; Venus won very few points off her ultra-aggressive ROS. Timea's serve is so good, in fact, that you have to wonder how she doesn't beat lower or mid-ranked players more often, at least on faster surfaces.

She also read and anticipated Venus serve well, but as so often happens to players facing Venus, that doesn't mean they can actually return it.

Venus was solid throughout; solid serving, few wild errors, didn't go for too much unless needed, even though this means her ground game isn't as lethal as it once was. Flat serve to the ad court is the best in the game. Sliced serve to both sides worked well too.

1st set tighter than the score indicates. 2nd set began as a bit of a rock fight, but Venus gained the upper hand as she cranked up the pace of the rallies; Timea just couldn't keep up with her, and Venus ran way with the set.

Good win for Venus! :yeah: Considering she hasn't played a pro match for a while and she was playing someone for the first time, I thought Venus looked good. Hopefully she can keep this form up/improve the ROS as the tournament progresses.

next up iveta. anything to worry venus in her game?!

Benesova doesn't have the power to hurt Venus, but what she does very well is get lots of balls back to coax errors out her opponents. Hopefully Venus will have a consistent day, because there should be numerous long points.

You obviously have never seen Iveta playing:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Iveta is a pretty powerful lefty; She has very a very good ground game especially her BH which is very flat with nice angles.

Does Timea always wear so much eye makeup?
she had raccoon eyes.

and Venus looked solid but her movement was kinda sluggish i thought. jsut not as explosive and as quick as it was at Wimbly.
