View Full Version : Jankovic's reign to last only one week?!

She became #1 because the LA points dropped but when the Toronto points are being dropped next week as well, am I right to suppose that she's likely to lose the Top spot to Ivanovic again?! I mean she reached the final last year and Ivanovic fell to Yan in 1r... Maybe she can keep it if she wins gold but there aren't that many points to gain at the Olympic event...

Well next week she will lose 300 points from Toronto last year. Ana will lose 35 points for going out in the second round.
Currently she has a 112 point advantage over Ana.

These are the Olympics points:

Gold Medal - 353
Silver Medal - 245
Bronze Medal - 175
Loser 3rd/4th - 135
Quarterfinals - 90
Round of 16 - 48
Round of 32 - 28
1st Round - 1

I'm too lazy to do the math, thogh :p

Has to get past quarters to remain no.1

But Ana had bye last year in Toronto so she'd got only 1 points, that's normal even for the seeds when they lose their first match of a tournament!

OK CORRECTION, I'Ve been a week behind again
===========================

I hope she doesn't calculate. And I thinkthat burden to become #1 someday is now gone. She will focus on her way of playing again. And she'll do it successfully even if she's #2 or #3 or...

Ana will be number one, unless Jelena or Sveta will reach final.

Ana will have 3612 points (3613-1)

Jelena will have 3425 points + Olympic points or 70 points (current 18th result)

Sveta will have 3395 points + Olympic points or 60 points (current 18th result)

Serena will have 3251 points + Olympic points (So can reach 3604 points in case of gold)

Neither of them deserve the ranking. The best players on the tour are the sisters and Sharapova but I'm sure everyone knows that.

Yeah right... To be the best player you have to play extraordinarily well and stay healthy, neither Sharapova nor the sisters have been able to do both...

It's certainly not Pova who was in a big slump since April, it's certainly Serena who hsn't won a Slam since January 2007, and it is definately not Venus who failed to reach a Tier II or above final off grass since 2005

And maybe you missed it, but Henin is retired at the moment

Ana won a GS, she was a legitimate no.1 :) and probably will be again :)

I like to see a player get the number #1 ranking or moving up the rankings as a result of winning a tournament or doing better than a rival. To me the most ridiculous thing about the current system is this. It's also ridiculous and and the sort of thing we see with Nadal - "You aren't #1 but will be in a couple of weeks even if you don't play or do really badly" What sort of BS is that all about that you aren't #1 now but would be in two weeks time if you are hopeless then and if you get beaten?

Now we have players jumping up and down from week to week because of what happened 52 weeks ago swamping what's happening now. I've got nothing against Ana getting the #1 back. But it should happen when she's playing and the system is ridiculous if you can grab #1 not even playing in the current tournament.

LOL, let's just give all three a medal then for being "the best players on tour" since they are not able to show it with their results :p

Wimbledon doubles? How did that get into the equation? Nice try, though ;)

Well, Ana has the best GS record with a GS win + GS final, Jelena OTOH is the most consistent of all top 10 players. So, by GS performance alone Ana deserves no 1 and by 52-week consistency Jelena deserves the no 1 spot (since other top players have only had flashes of brilliance during the year). So, logically the fight for no 1 is therefore between Ana and Jelena...

A Williams fan has no right to talk about withdrawing because of an injury  Enlighten us frontier! Why did she withdraw?

I was thinking the same thing! Kane had it for one night, Jelena has it for one week. She'll be able to grab it again in the Fall since she fell flat on her face last Fall. She has the chance. But Serena will only be gaining for a while, it'll be interesting.

Hmm maybe itīs enough one week, because now she can be remembered as a "former number one" when this crazy week ends!
