1st match for Maria tomorrow at 7pm (Cincinnati's time),the 1st match of the night session:cool: against Hsieh...

I don't like so much these small girls who run everywhere on the court and who are able to bore Maria:mad:.But Maria will win because she has a revenge to take on the 2nd round against Dubois:devil:.It will be tougher for Dubois without her crowd:tape: and she won't be playing the only tournament she plays well each year:lol:.

But 1st,beat Hsieh;)

The next few weeks could be very interesting. I think Masha has about 200 pts to defend including USO, but she really should defend these at least. New Haven must be a big opportunity because there will be a lot of names missing.

Still, it's just Cinncinati for now.

Well, we'll see. Last week someone (Natash, I think) was calling her Maria Hingis. Now no-one would have said that a year ago. Perhaps she has learnt better shot selection which was her problem in the past.

We will see :)

I'll have to wait till the morning to get the result :(

Maria won 6-2 7-5 against Hseish. :) Of course, Hseish lost her previous matches while winning only 5, 1, and 2 games, so  :p.

I think the absence of the Canadian crowd and the faster surface should help Maria beat Dubois (although she should have done it the first time). Now get your revenge Maria. :)

Maybe it's just me, but I'd say Maria's ranking was too high earlier in the year. She won her 2 Mickey Mouse clay court tournaments but generally didn't do too well elsewhere.

4th round in Melbourne 3rd round in Berlin and Rome, disappointing in Miami and Indian wells and the other 2 slams sure but she hasn't been that bad. Def deserved her spot in the top 20 and hopefully she can get back there. A hell of a lot better than the start of last year. :)

Anyways glad she won, now go beat Dubois like you should have in Montreal. :yeah:

Problem with Maria, sometimes she plays such a brilliant shot. And the next few points, poor shots.

But with the dropshots she's been hitting and that gorgeous slice and the way she moves around the court, I would say she's closer to Hingis than most players. Her shot selection has improved definitely. She's using her variety a lot more than she was early on last year. Working the angles a lot more.

The Maria Hingis was a bit of a joke but definitely the closest representation at least for me is Maria. But of course, she is Maria Kirilenko. :hearts:

Do you think she's closer to Martina than Aga Radwanska is?

Why do you compare Maria to Martina?

Natash.
Aug 12th, 2008, 07:40 AM
Do you think she's closer to Martina than Aga Radwanska is?

In some ways, yes. I think the way Kirilenko moves around the court so gracefully and effortlessly reminds me of Hingis and in some ways, Kournikova. But I think Aga's shot selection is much better than Kirilenko although Kirilenko has a better serve and I think more pop on her shots. Aga dropshot/lob combo is just gorgeous. :hearts:

I also think Maria's cute accent and candid (a.k.a adorable :hearts:) comments especially during her Australian Open win against Chakvetadze reminds me of a very young Hingis. :)

And I had made a small comparison to Maria and Martina when I was watching her in Montreal. Commentators did too actually. They compared her to Patty as well. So good compliments all around.

I would like Maria to keep her head in matches though. Sometimes she loses her concentration and it's actually becoming more of a habit. But she's winning matches and I can't really complain.

A little bit I found.

"The first day is always difficult," said Kirilenko, who lost as an unseeded player to fourth-seeded Marion Bartoli in 2004, her only other appearance in the tournament. "I knew (Hsieh) from juniors, so I knew she'd be difficult, and I was having trouble with the tension on my strings. They were too loose."

Makiri and Nadia just won the doubles with a 6-3, 4-6, 10-8. What a great win by the ladies. :clap2: I`m very pleased with how well they played in coming back from down 6-8 in the STB. Congrats to Makiri for winning her second doubles title of the year. :clap2:

This loss to Petrova after winning the first set 6-1 is so frustrating to me because she did the same thing against Hantuchova at the 2008 Australian Open. :banghead: She took the first set from Daniela 6-1 and then folded. And she did it again yesterday against Petrova. Masha won the first set 6-1 and then fell apart. It's inexplicable.

You are tough on her. She did just win a doubles title you know. Petrova said she played a lot better in the 2nd set, but I'd like to hear what Makiri has to say.

Anyway, that's 4 titles this year :worship:

Yes Kitty but I remind you that Daniela eased off at AO08. She decided to play then, from 0-0 in next set.

I've no doubt Masha can lose focus sometimes when she's leading. What she has to remember is that against quality players like Dani/Nadia, they are never beaten  But you always have to take the form of the opponent into account.

Match against Daniela has been the one I will always bear in mind.

Dubois WON the first set 6-1 against Maria and leading a break in the 3rd. What about that then?

Dunno but I know that all Maria matches should last as long as possible to give us a chance to watch her, stare and worship :worship:

It's not the same because Maria actually led 3-1 30-0 in that 2nd set against Daniela.

I don't think Petrova possibly playing better makes it ok though that Maria only won 3 more games in the match after the 1st set.
