She said that she injured her calf and doesn't want to risk anything. If she is not 100% she is not playing - all depends how she feels in today's training.

I can really see Dinara collecting that Gold Medal soon.....everybody else is injured and some I think only went for the experience of the atmosphere.

But seriously, did JJ idolize Kim or something, because she is sure replicating her in some things, not least of which is the propensity to talk too much about her ache, pains and....maybe menstrual cramps soon.

Blah. Kim has been injured for long periods of time several times in her short career and she retired very early because of that.

Well - I thought this injury she picked up in training might be quite serious when she skipped the opening cermony. That is not the sort of thing she'd want to to miss knowing what she's like unless it was serious. If she does skip the Olympics - it will almost certainly be because it's impossible for her to play. Knowing her - she'll play if it's possible. I just can't see her making a tactical decision ans saying "I'll save myself for the USO" if there was any way she could play. Although from my point of view - I think it would probably be the wise thing to do now.

As for those moaning about her informing us what's happening - who cares what these pathetic posters think. She's either answering a question or she's letting her fans know what's happening. I couldn't care lress if non-fans don't want to hear her. Just a bunch of hypocrites really. They are in this thread trying to find out what's wrong and then at the same time whining about her letting us know what's wrong.

I guess they like the unprofessional approach some players adopt who pull out of tournaments at the last minute time and time again without letting anyone know what's up.

Jelena has had a tough year. Unlike those of you screaming "drama queen," I believe her when she says something is wrong. I've seen it. She did not look that great during the Hopman Cup finals, nor the French and Wimbledon after she suffered her nagging injuries. Perhaps her overplaying has finally caught up to her. Just as Shriekypova's shoulder has caught up with her, and the WS also have their share of injuries catch up with them too.

This is tennis now folks. It just ain't like it was back in the days when I first came aboard in 1971. Different game, that takes a terrible toll on the bod. A game which for me is not better, but it's the way of the world now. So as fans we have to except early retirements and constant injuries. Especially in a player in their 20's.

Since I became a fan about 15 years before tennis was reintroduced back into the Olympics, for me that event as for as tennis is concerned is just a huge exhibition. It's just not the same as for other sports where the athletes prepare literally for four years just for this one event.

The "real" tournaments that count in tennis are still the slams. I'd rather see Jelena and every other top pro be in shape for the US Open than play injured in the Olympics and then be out of the Open.

So, I hope that Jelena does what's best for her in order to be at maximum for the US Open. In the end, years from now if this site still exist, the members will be, as usually, counting grand slam events with the occasional mention of Olympic medals. Those medals are gravy, but the meat and potatoes remain the slams.

As usual - a post that is full of sense. Thank you.

The only thing I dispute is the part I've put in bold about doing what's best for her USO chances. Knowing Jelena and what the Olympics means to her. Plus there'll be quite a bit of pressure from the Serbian officials for her not to withdraw - I don't think the USO will be a factor in her decision to play or not unless the injury is really extremely serious. I think it will come down pure and simple to if she's able to play she will.

You're kidding.......this is coming from the woman who I quote ...."put her career on the line" earlier this year in Hopman Cup when she played with an injury.......but she won't play with one in the Olympics. Obviously you don't know Jelena's history too well.
