This thread is for the Americans and anyone else who's getting taped delayed coverage of the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic games! I've been avoiding the other threads here and internet sites, because I want everything to be a surprise!

So, if anyone else is like I am, this is our thread to oooo and aaaah in.

F*CK YOU NBC!

Yes, NBC is really retarded. They trick you into thinking that games will also be streamed live, when a recent criticism revealed that they will only be shown online AFTER the games have been broadcast on TV :weirdo:

People don't realize that a lot of the games won't be shown live. For instance, all the games on the NBC stream will not be shown live, as I've read this before in an article. I'm wondering just how many of the events shown on NBC and its partners are live?

Correction: So only the games that are broadcast on TV will not be shown live on the stream, but there will be playbacks. I'm just wondering how NBC will deal with broadcasting the simultaneity of sporting events in Beijing as they only have 6 or so channels. It would suck if they cut you in the middle of a game an I don't know how reliable the livestream is.

So will they start the actual coverage after the ceremony tonight? Becuase it will be morning in China and the comps will start...

Well, soccer already began before the ceremony and the coverage was shown on TV or stream - I'm not sure which. According to the link above, during NBC's taped coverage, there are other sports such as badminton that will be broadcast. Whether it is live or not, I'm not sure. So either you can check the official schedule for each of these events - which is a pain - or just refrain yourself from the media and constantly watch the greatness of the NBC coverage. They even tell give you huge time blocks so that you can sit down on the couch for eight straight hours without knowing when the event actually starts, how wonderful.

I am fine with it being taped, the Athens and Sydney ones were taped too and it was fine. I mean, you get more viewers and its better at its time slot.

I don't mind it. I wouldn't be waking up at 8am to see an opening ceremony anyway! :p

NBC SUCKS !!

It's also thanks to them that the Games are held in August. China originally wanted to hold the games in September because of the heat and humidity in August which exacerbates the smog problem. NBC made IOC veto it because they don't want the Olympics to interfere with their NFL schedule!! So all the 11,000 athletes and journalists from around the world have NBC to thank for their choking/melting in the thick air.

Still 5 1/2 hrs to go here on the West Coast. I hate NBC. Hope the HD at least makes up for it.

As far as I'm concerned it's London that will have to surpass this, since they are hosting the next summer games. . . and I pity that city ! :p:lol:
