View Full Version : Agassi, Graf prepare Cirstea for Olympics

Aug 7th, 2008, 07:02 PM

Sorana Cirstea will make her Olympic debut in Beijing next week, but has already had an invaluable Olympic experience courtesy of a pair of gold medalists: Andre Agassi and wife Steffi Graf.

The 18-year-old Romanian spent nearly two weeks in Las Vegas training with Agassi's close friend and personal trainer, Gil Reyes, and hit with both Agassi and Graf on Agassi's court. The 57th-ranked Cirstea has a clothing and shoe contract with adidas, which is also endorsed by Agassi and Graf. Reyes is now a member of adidas' coaching team and works with several adidas-sponsored players.

The championship couple left quite ain impact on Cirstea.

"It was the most impressive moment for me," Cirstea told the Romanian media. "Steffi was my idol growing up and I got to play on Andre Agassi's private court and see his Olympic gold medal. They are two extraordinary people. They will always be in my heart."

That's great for Sorana. :) I knew she was working with Gil Reyes during the US Hard court tournaments. Great experience for her. Hopefully she can take all of this and do well in the Olympics. She plays quite well for her country, defeating Jankovic in 3 sets and Radwanska in straights.

She might beat Peer but then get killed the next round with a bagel and a breadstick.:tape:

Sounds like an amazing experience for Sorana. Something like that has got to have an effect on her confidence at the very least. Add to that the help with fitness she will have gained and probably some invaluable advice on competing on the tour and this will have been a couple of weeks to remember. I would be surprised if something like this doesn't produce a discernable improvement in Sorana's results. :)

She'll still lose in the 1st round.

I think Sorana is a very talented player. She can beat Peer. Lesser players have done it this year. :p

Go Sorana! Hopefully she can move past those 2 dreadful double bagels she's swallowed earlier this year and start getting decent results! :)

Good luck Sorana at OS. Great experience for you working with these legends. :)

Cool. If nothing else Agassi probably gave her a nice stash of performance enhancers to take with her.

Sorana is one of my fav players from the new generation...She and Kvitova will do big things in the future...
She is only 18, and I watched her against Ivanovic in the 1st round of the Australian Open... unfortunately her luck of experience was crucial for loosing that match (7-5, 6-3)... Like Kvitova she hits the ball extremely hard, just needs to cut down UE...

I consider Cirstea is future top 5 player and a grand slam champion. She's also very beautiful.
