Dementieva will be looking to get back on track, while Vaidisova has her title to defend whilst sruggling to find form. It should be an interesting week on the OWTT Tour!

It's nto really supposed to be qulifying, I just call it that coz would be so many byes if I did a R64 draw! Not fair to make players play 2/3 qualifying rounds. Plus with 41 players, you don't play the same people very often!

yeh you still get a point for losing in qualifying. If I got 7 more players, we would have 48, and I could have a 64 draw with 16 seeds getting Byes and the rest playing R64 matches!

ALG will face Benesova in R64 match.
I think from next week will do 16 seeds with Byes, and add PC players to make up to 64 draw :)
Indian Wells, CA – Justine Henin made her debut exactly a month ago in the Original Women’s Tennis Tour. Without any spotlight that surrounds the top players on the tour, many don’t even know who she is or where she is from.
The diminutive Belgian lost in her first qualifying match as a wild card in a heart-breaker to Tamira Paszek in Doha. It was a tough match, but the first, and a promising one for Henin, who pushed her opponent to three sets, eventually succumbing 5-7 in the decisive set. The freshness was clear from the start. Henin showed her talent and skill, but her fitness was visibly lacking.
“Doha was my first tournament, and it was the first time I played a competitive match, so I was obviously not used to exerting so much energy out there on the court,” Henin told reporters in her first ever interview today.
The next week in Dubai, Henin did herself one round better, qualifying against fellow countrywoman Kim Clijsters, only to lose to the world #1 Elena Dementieva in the first round. That match, too, went three sets. Fitness was not the culprit in the match, however. Rather, it was the Belgian’s inexperience that showed.
“I tried to overpower Elena too much that match,” she said. “I can’t do that against those players, she’s too good off the ground. I have to play tough and smart.”
She certainly carried that mentality the next week to Bangalore, India, once again qualifying and facing Dementieva in a rematch. This time, the Belgian came out on top, reaching her first Round of 16 match. She was downed by Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova, simply too good when it counted.
“I think I’ve definitely shown improvement,” Henin said, amazingly calmly in her first interview. “I’m certainly not expecting a title right away, but if I can continue to qualify and play more against these players, I will figure it out sooner rather than later.”
The Belgian, currently ranked 38 in the world, has much improvement to make. Her climb up the ranks will be a long one, so patience will be key.
“I made the Round of 16 last week, so let’s make my goal the Quarterfinals this week!”
Either way, Justine Henin is here to stay.

After reaching the Top8, Anna seemed to struggle and couldn’t find her form as she slept down in the rankings at 10 with a few first round losses.
“Well, I always want to play the best and I always put too much pressure on me. I wanted to play perfect tennis and I wanted to reach Top5 the faster I can. I had a great run at the Australian open and that’s why I put pressure on me. But I should have not because I did the same mistake after my title in Wimbledon. Now the only thing I am wishing for is consistency. It is really hard for us, Top 10 girls, to be consistent because there are so many new girls on Tour and they have nothing to defend. They have no pressure, they are young and innocents. So we never know what we have to expect from these girls and we don’t have any benefits to be Top players here, so that’s why consistency is really hard to get for us. I am sure many girls will approve what I’ve just said.” said Anna.
Now, the Russian lady seems to be out of her “slump” as she had great victories this week in Indian Wells, beating World number 1 and 6. Her good run continues as she sails into semifinal where she will face fellow countrywoman, Svetlana Kuznetsova.
“I wasn’t confident for this week. I mean, we all these losses and these new girls, I didn’t have high expectations. First of all, I had to play against Radwanska, which beats me last week 2-6, 7-5 and 2-6. So it was mentally hard for me to play against her. You know, she’s a really good player and is always tough to play. When her game is on, she’s hard to beat. So you never know what to expect from that girl. I was really glad to go away with this win, in straight sets of 6-3 and 6-4. It’s always nice to win matches in straight sets, it gives you confidence.
But after this, I had to face the World number one, Elena Dementieva. I faced her last week in the second round of Dubai and I won the meeting in straight sets of 7-5 and 6-0. The first set was really, but really tight. It could have gone either way, just like last week, but I played better at the end of the set. Elena seemed disappointed to loose this first set once again so I just continue to play my game and I went away with the victory 7-5 and 6-1.
For a spot in quarters…JJ! I played a lot of matches against her. During the hardcourt season last season, she was really dominant and she gave me two beat downs, where I only one 9 games during these two matches. I was definitely her bitch! I met her for the third time in Moscow. Things looks like she was going to give me another beat down when she won the first set 6-0, but things finally turned around for me as I won this match. I played her another time in Quebec City, where I kicked her ass in the final. So we headed into this match with a tied h2h. Like every encounter between us, it was a really high quality match and Jelena played one of her best match. She was amazing and the score line, 2-6 6-2 and 6-1, didn’t suggest a tight match but believe me, it was!! By the way, I am sorry for her she had to loose this match. But on the other hand, I am quite happy to reach another semifinal. I now take the lead 3-2 in our meetings.
Next for me is Kuznetsova. Svetlana is a really good player and she’s always tough to beat. She is really consistent. You do have to make her move all around the court with aggressive shots because she will bring back every ball in the court and if you aren’t aggressive enough, she will step into the ball and take the lead of the point. So you do have to play good tennis to beat her. Last week, I beat her 6-1 and 7-5, but this week is another one. I’ve changed my tactic but hopefully I’ll pull it through again this time. It would be awesome to reach a Tier 1 final. My ranking needs it, as my confidence do.” said Kournikova.
Hingis wasn't ready and she may win the tournament:eek:
