Dinara's been so impressive since the clay season. Two titles, a Tier I and Tier II and a slam final where she showed true mental strength :worship: I have to admit, after her dodgy start to the year I thought it's going to be another lost season for Dinara but now she's a solid top 10 player and is a legitimate threat at the majors!

I hope she can keep her form going through Montreal :)

So the draw gets difficult

The winner probably plays Ivanovic, and I want to see Dinara do better this time. If they play

It was interesting. Patty definitely had the right idea: drop shots, bring Dinara forward, then pass her. But Patty didn't execute. First set was closer than the 2nd set, imo. Dinara did quite well, and I was kind of surprised at how easily she won (I'm sure it was harder than it looked, but Dinara did well.) She had the same problems closing out sets as she did in Carson, but she did it.

In her interview afterwards, Dinara said it was going to be difficult playing her doubles partner for the Olympics. In Carson, Dinara had more trouble playing a fellow Russian. Should be interesting tomorrow!

Well, the lovely, underrated beauty,Oafette, has just guaranteed the anguish of Ana's fans who wanted to see KUZY instead of Jankovic replace Ana as #1:rolleyes:....Don't ask me to explain it;unless this is a Serbian turf war,I have NO idea.

....ANYhow,I haven't followed Dinara's career closely other than seeing her results in the weekly scores, but I've been SOOOO impressed with what she's done this year. She demoralized Henin and sent her into retirement by annihilating her on red clay,THEN she beat Serena when SW WASN'T making too many errors.Serena usually self-destructs by making mistakes, she VERY RARELY gets her ass kicked when she's playing well. She made her 1st Slam final---and then pro'bly pressed a bit too much--and now she's working on her second straight top-level tourney. In the minds of those who know her best, what is/are the biggest difference(s) in this new,wonderfully-improved Dinara??

New coach. I think Glenn Schaap was not a good fit for Dinara, although I think she thought so at the time. Her fitness level is completely different than before. Once those two things changed, she began playing very well and gained confidence from that. Also, her forehand is better--it could be that she now has the fitness to get to the forehand and so is more balanced (I'm not quite sure), but I do know that her forehand is much improved.

I saw the match between Sveta and Dinara tonight at the Rogers Cup (I was there.) It was fuckin' excellent. Both players did extremely well, painting the lines, moving each other around, drop shotting...really good stuff. I think this was my Rogers Cup final, even though it was only a quarterfinal match.

I don't know if it came across on the livestream or tv, but both players were hitting excellent shots. Yes, both had errors, but some of them were forced because the opponent had just hit an amazing shot. When your opponent has just hit the back of the baseline with amazing pace, it's hard to hit it back--yet they did, over and over and over.

I think Dinara was slightly fitter, and more confident, compared to Sveta (not that Sveta is not fit; I think Dinara is more fit.) Sveta came out very determined, very confident, but Dinara hung in there; she knew the 2-6 first set was very close (and it WAS.)

But I love me some Sveta, so this was hard for me to watch. My heart was for Sveta, and my mind was for Dinara.

I know who else was cheering for Kuzy:the other players in the draw who didn't want to face Dinara.I guarantee you that their heads dropped a bit when they saw the second-and-third set turnaround.

I wish she'd let down her ponytail after the matches because she has sort of a large head for a gal and the pulled-back hair gives the illusion that it's bigger than it is.When she's dolled up at the player parties you can recognize those pretty family features that have made her brother a huge hit with women.

Well I hope Dinara can maintain this winning streak till she gets the number one ranking. The last player I remember doing that was Martina Hingis in '96-'97. Boy, was she unbeatable at that time.
