nothing to defend, we can hope for a good result.. Nicole has a very tough draw!

Nicole Vaidisova (16) vs Ai Sugiyama
Sabine Lisicki vs Shahar Peer
Bethanie Mattek vs Marta Domachowska
Maria Sharapova (3) - BYE

Ai is a beatable opponent and R2 opponent too and then Sharapova, come on! :D

POJD!!!!!!! :bounce: :)

So the matchup that never was and never will be is again possible.

All Nicole has to do to make her way up to Sharapova is to beat Sugiyama and Peer back-to-back in one of the slowest hardcourts in the Tour.

*sighs*

This draw would be impossible even if she still cared.

See ya next week.

This is a tricky looking draw for Nikki, especially Ai has been playing well lately as evident by her recent wins over Dani and Domi. Plus she seems like the type of player that can frustrate Nikki with her scrappy style. Still i think that if she`s on, Nikki should win. Hopefully she can get a couple of wins in Montreal and likely have the long awaited first meeting with Masha.

so inconsistent, there's a good ball striking but mostly she can't hit it.. why she just bashed the ball when she knew she can't do it.. she should play longer rallies and she could win.. just terrible..

Nicole lost in three sets as expected. There is just nothing in her footwork. Movement and speed is fine, she can reach some balls and get them back, but when the ball aims on her it's like she thinks she doesn't need to position herself to strike it. It wasn't as bad as Hantuchova's display against Sugiyama in Stanford, but at several moments I had deja vu.

It's clear Nicole's problems are not mental. Her footwork is worse than ever. I think it's time to go back to Kodat/Bollettieri. Felgate seems to be doing nothing for her game.

What is there to be said about today`s match other than it was typical Nikki in that she looks good for a moment, but in the end falls apart. :( The sad thing about it is that it wasn`t surprising at all.

the originaly post is in Spanish, but I used the Google Translator for posted in English:
Another disappointment with Nicole:
Ai Sugiyama JPN def (16) Nicole Vaidisova CZE 63 36 62
The match began splendid, with *30 for czech player. But, a monumental choker allowed Sugiyama ahead 63 20* and two BP's ... but she also choker, and that allowed Nicole to come back and equalize set all.
Even had 2BP's in the first game of the 3rd set, but failed, and there ended up everything ...
2 more breaks to Sugiyama (one to close the match), which will allow access to 2 nd round, where they hoped the Israeli Shahar Peer
;)
terrible,awful...
And the Olympics now...:help:
I think she working with Kodat again because she made the best results when her stepfather working with her

Felgate mainly helps tactical though I can't see any new tactics in Nicole's game.. she should play more rallies today but she wanted to win a point too quickly.. Ai made some ue's or Nicole made some nice winners in long rallies.. I can't imagine she was so stupid and bashed the ball in the net so many times instead of be more patient.. her work with Alex was much better.. I think they should try it again.. it also has to be painful that his "daughter" is playing so badly.. he should at least help.. it's really about footwork.. her movement and mental is good.. at least today.. also her serve sucks a little bit..

could somebody explain me these service motion.. Nicole has the shortest one I think.. what's advantange of longer?

I love it.

Some of you think she wasn't successful enough with Kodat and should change and now that she's working with Felgate and doesn't win since Wimbledon, she should go back to Kodat.Well, we have seen how much it was difficult so I don't think she's going to work again with her step-father

I think, that Vaidisova's problems is mainly physical, she lost a lot of her physical since a few months and she's trying to go back to her former form but It will take a lot of time. That why I would explain her great result at Wimbledon ( and lost so badly againt zheng because she could nothing against Zheng's game and was out physically in the last set).Nicole's succes at the beginning of her carrer was in large part because of her big physical for a girl of her age.Just look how she was in the past and how she looks like right now. That's just my interpretation.

Longer doesn't mean better. Of course she should take her time to concentrate but when a player waits too long the serve can get weak as well.
Maybe she should try to concentrate more (take a deep breath) before her serve but I really don't think that her serve is the biggest problem right now. Her returns were awful and she made too many errors - sometimes it was painful to watch...
