I don't understand how can you describe this draw as tough for top 10 player. And also all the excitement about this tournament, for Aga it's only a practise, like Istanbul :p

Though I want her to win in Stockholm, it wouldn't matter much for me if she didn't (and for Aga too) ;)

Tough in relative terms. I agree, of course, that if Agnieszka is serious about her current status of the Top 10 player, then she is supposed to beat all of the contenders, including Szávay, without questions. This is going to be a good hard courts practice before 北京 (Běijīng).

Somebody watched this match in swedish TV - SVT24. It's his coment:

"I watched a match and I listened to an interview with Agnieszka. Unfortunately she didn't serve good, she had a lot of double faults and in general she played with difficulties. She explained that her forearm still ached and that two days before it was hard for her to keep a racket."

PIN Retired with stomach problems, sick, not injured.

Radwanska through in a ignominious way

[01/08/2008 15:00]
Radwanska advanced in a to the saturdays semifinal in a ignominious way when Camille Pin through in the towel at the beginning of the second set.

It was when the scoreboard said 6-2,6-1 to Radwanska when Pin decided to retire due to stomach problems.

She called the trainer for the first time after the first set, but decided to give it a try, but it didn't worked.

After the match Radwanska said that it was a tough fight.

- Camille is able to get almost every ball back, so it's very tough to play against her. I tried to be aggressive all the time and try to finish the rallies pretty fast.

To the question what it is she works with in her game right now, she answered:

- Everything! I don't work with any special stroke or so right now. I try to get better on everything.

In the semifinal she will face Caroline Wozniacki from Denmark in a match we have big expectations of.

Radwanska through in a ignominious way

The command of English by the Swedes who write these match reports sometimes sinks to unbelievable lows:

ignominious in English means shameful, achieved in a morally unacceptable way.

Morons. She should sue them for this. Or maybe Camille Pin should? Who knows who this accusation is really directed to? With these dimwits you never know what they want to say. Irrespective to whom it is directed, the title as it stands puts certainly Radwańska, not Pin, in a very unfavorable light in the eyes of a casual onlooker with at least minimal command of English.

when Camille Pin through in the towel

And this is an absolute pearl... A pure satire.

In 2nd I think she wasn't interested and wanted this match to finish.
Linesmen were ridiculous, everything near a line was for Caro-line.

See you in Beijing Aga.

Did Agnieszka question any of the linesmen calls? (or their absence when they were due)

In the Gala interview she said that she wouldn't tolerate cheating umpires. I don't know whether this also extends to bad linesmen calls. But I remember her being bitter in Miami concerning a number of such bad calls in a match against de Brito.

really? anyone else to confirm that?Really. Once Aga's BH DTL was PLUM ON THE LINE. Called out. Apart from this ridiculous one there were a couple of close calls and ALL went to Caroline. Of course Aga complained, she spent one whole change of ends complaining to the umpire from her chair. Couldn't pick what she was saying. She looked half pissed, half 'blah I don't care anyway, so what's the point?'.

Ok, I see, thanks.

Generally Aga complains only when she is right. Sad to see such things happen also in Scandinavia. Looks like there are no fair countries any more. :help: ;)

I see. I suppose Agnieszka must have been feeling rather unhappy about it. Well, when I spent a semester in Stockholm a few years ago, I noticed with chagrin that their traditional standards of honesty greatly eroded in recent times. I suppose they 'brought the morals to correspond to the modern times'.

My own take at today's match with Woźniacki.

I didn't want to make any comments before watching the match. An impression I had while watching the video recording was that Agnieszka was playing as if her primary objective today was not to get hurt. If at the same time she could continue winning that would be fine too. But winning at all cost was simply not an option for her today.

This is, of course, not how one wins titles, even minor ones. In numerous matches this season she had to really exert herself to win. Today her approach was more like playing Benešová at Wimbledon. And this is how she was playing in the First, very close, Set, lost by her minimally.

When she got behind in the Second, she seemed to completely lose interest in the match. Totally unlike what she is well known for -- to fight until the last point. I understand that hers and her father's main concern was not to get hurt, and not to aggravate her wrist problem before the Olympics, but for me it is disappointing that she had to play in this situation at all. This is going to be recorded as a loss after all.

Caroline Woźniacki was understandably playing without such inhibitions.

Caroline is quite an ordinary player in spite of all her strengths. A kind of underpowered power player. Sounds like an oxymoron, I know.

On the other hand Agnieszka is quite extraordinary. She is as unique, as Hingis was unique. [The two are very different though often compared.] Every match of Agnieszka I watch and analyse in detail convinces me about it more and more.

If she continues developing, and I really hope she does, Agnieszka will become a legend. Caroline, will become another Azarenka, at best. I think that reaching #15 would be her upper limit. So, yes, for Agnieszka such losses are now, unfortunately, embarrassing. The best thing was simply to pull out, if she knew she couldn't afford stretching herself to the limit today when needed. And there were obviously moments in the match when she needed.
