Second round should be a formality really. This will bring up an interesting clash. There's no knowing which Anna C will turn up on the day, but regardless I'm expecting to see Shahar of Wimbledon R2&3 for the remainder of the year, starting this tourney.

If shahr will reach the 2nd round- I think too many think it's gonna be easy sine Chally is in a slump, but we must not forget that it's hard to tell which Shahr will show up, and like you said, which Chakky will show, plus, Shahar doesn't like Chakky's style..

1st set: Shahar 7-5
well Shahar opened the match very bad, falling to 0-3 behind, and Czink had few points to 0-4 (double break), Czink dectaes the pace and hit the ball very hard, however, almost always, hen Shahar dectated, she won the point..
Shaar looks a bit on and off, but Czink had some stupid erorrs that gave Shahar the breaks, and Shahar served an ace in the set point :)

Shahar won 7:5 6:0 :)
Well, it's hard to tell since Shahar did in the 2nd set what she had too, nothing special, and czink was a bit roken after the 1st, made DF's onthe crucial points, missed many many drive volleys and volleys..
But nice win Shahar. GL next match!

Trying this link I got a webcam, but only of courts 1-6 which held collegiate matches - stupidly enough the menu had no clear way to switch to either the main court or court 11 on which the WTA tourney is being played.
I didn't have time to see the match anyway - how was it? An errorfest? She was passive and let Anna dictate the points? Or there were some positives and her opponent just played very well?

So you couldn't watch it? Weird, I did...
Anyways, lucky for you, not a good match. So many wasted opportunities! Shahar came back in the 1st set from 0-3 to 3 all, and then was broken to 3:5 after having few game points to level to 4 all. after that, she had few bp's to break back to 4:5, and wasted them all with bad returns, and in one of the bps, she set up a great point, but send a drive volley, from the BH side, into the net. she (And I) was gutted.
in the 2nd set, she came close to breaking chakky's serve too, but didn't do it, she was defensive at pretty much 60% of the match and let Chakky hit winners (and few errors too..) and when she (Shahar) changed to agressive mode, she missed many many easy balls, more than once or twice...
Shahar should have came back in the 1st set, and she should have taken the 2nd if she had a bit more concentration in the big points, I think that was a big mistake since we all know how mentak midget Chakky could be at times, if Shahar would take advantage oif it, she would win, but she didn't.

I think that it might be fair to assume that Shahar will drop out of the top 50 ranking by the end of the summer. The crisis in confidence that she must be experiencing can not be turned around by merely changing the name of a coach or a traveling partner. It seems like everybody on the tour has figured out her style of play and she seems to have no easy matches.

For that to happen she would have to practically not win another match this year, and heaven help us that's not going to happen.
Finishing 2008 at about #35-#40 however seems sad but likely.
