Anna-Lena just beat Lucie Safarova in the 2nd round of Budapest today! (6-1, 6-4 )
I totally believe that she is one of the players that can come back even though it will probably take another year...:yeah:

sesil will be top 100 by the end of the year she will be top 170 next week. she only needs 1 good win or result to kick start things again.

ALG will also do well and get around the 100 mark by the end of the year.

as for the rest dokic could but she plays so few events, when your working your way back up you need to be playing most weeks.

Lucic hasn't played too many WTA events this season but she has three wins in qualifying, she won a round in Charleston, S'Hertogenbosch and Palermo.

For me "COMEBACK GIRLS" is also all former TOP50 girls which started this season about #150 place and right now is again TOP50 (or very close) like Zheng, Tanasugarn, Domachowska or Benesova.

Yes i understand you,but the term comeback refers to leaving and then returning and it can also mean taking a big fall and trying to return to that postion/place you were once at.....all but alex left for atleast 6 mos,and alex has just recently(past 9 mos) starting playing a consistent schedule.None of those you mentioned except Zheng really count and more seriously none of those ever achieved close to the success of the others(minus Tanasugarn but she never left in the first place).

Marta,Iveta and Tammy were just in bad slumps as all have played full regular schedules the past few seasons. And Zheng never did much but achieve a high of 32(or 29) to warrant this.An honorable mention would be Iroda Tulyaganova: career high #16,wins over Kim,Justine,Dokic(in span of two back to back events) and others. 3 tour titles and heavy knock to reach top 10 few years back. Also attempted a comeback starting late 06 with decent results(RU & SF at Tier 3& 4 in Asia) but seems to have been re injured last march and again this season!!

Ok well every girl on the list was Top 20(minus Lucic and Sesil) and ALL made atleast SF or QF of a Slam.As well all had ALOT of buzz, talk about them and their games, and were well known in tennis world(minus Bovina and Groenefeld who both actually had most consistent results after Jelena, and looked to be realistic staples intop 10/15)

You could have added Date too

She's around 300-350 and had a few good events in Japan

Yep i will....i was trying to keep it to the "former" junior phenoms, but i can add Date, and maybe Iroda and Lindsey Lee-Waters(who is attemtping her 3rd major comeback)

bovina has been 'attempting a comeback' for some time now. so i dont think she should be part of the list

karatanchieva & groenefeld are the most likely to reach top 100 by the end of the year, and i think they both will. i expect them both to reach the top 50 next year.

sprem i expect to be near the top 100 by the end of the year, but i doubt she will return to the top 50. she was always a very inconsistant player to begin with. she could have a string of bad loses, then out of nowhere have a good win

Funny how Sprem is the one with the most MD wins, as well as beating a top 10 player. She hasn't been in full force like the others in their comebacks. Sprem has been scattered and more focused on training and fitness. I wouldn't write her off like that considering the terror she caused in AI and what she is doing in Budapest. Better than the rest of all the comeback girls combined in 2008.

But since 2005 Bovina has played a grand total of 10 events........and last year was only 8 so,if you read correctly,i said they are all attempting "serious",commited comebacks ie FULL schedules,100% healthy.Lol i think already this year alone Bovina has played more events than the last 2 seasons combined!!

I guess we can add Marosi to the list. I couldnt remember her, so i had to go to the wta site. She played 4 slams in 00-01 and none since.

Sesil has the best record of all of them in terms of match play (Sprem I think has been the best in WTA events) this year with a 36-14( well 38-15 after this week) total in singles which includes two 25k wins, a 25k and 50k final and 1 75lk quarterfinal.

She hasn't seen to much action against top 100 players but is 1-3 thus far.

Good to see some career resurgances - like being back in time a bit ;).

Now if only players like Maleeva, Martinez and Farina Elia could make a comeback. Wishful thinking I know.
