View Full Version : May I say...BOMBSHELL? Radwanska & Szavay top the entry list in New Haven

Surely some other top player will be playing here if loses early in Beijing but still that's a laughable entry list for an American Tier II...not even Stanford in its worse years :help:

They should totally scrap that tournament...or downgrade it. It's moronic to go through the entire hard court season (the most brutal portion of the year) and then play a tournament the week before the US Open.

I'm sure if some of the bigger names crash and burn at the Olympics, they'll scoop up the wildcards. With the Olympics and the USO so close together, most of the higher ranked players aren't going to care about New Haven.

Kuznetsova does have a title to defend, but I doubt she'll show up this year.

Szavay will start defending her big points from last summer very soon, so this tournament is important to her. Unless someone else enters, I'd bet on Radwanska taking another title this year.

Radwanska is hogging like crazy. She's the Jankovic of 2008.

Unlike Jankovic she'll probably end up with five or more titles.

Good on her. New Haven is going to blow this year, though.

You said the same thing after the Budapest list was posted. Guess who's not playing Budapest? ;)

So you're going to deal with your persecution complex here, then? :)

Have some pity on Corswandt. He has been sufficiently afflicted this year. His bitterness is devouring him piece-by-piece.

There are wayyyy too many of these 'BOMBSHELL' threads, most of them have nothing 'bomb' about them except to magnify some near triviality.

Normally New Haven pulls a great entry list. But the players that would normally play it are entered in the olympics and even if they lose early they will want the rest before the US open which starts the week after.

Nope Lindsay entered in Standford and LA instead. Makes sense as they are Lindsay's home state.

New Haven is a nice tournament: I remember poor Agnes last year with that injury while she was playing Kuznetsova :(. This year it is strangled between Olympics and the Open, nothing to do about that.

I'll always remember the 2001 edition, when Venus, in 24 hours because of rain delays, beat Henin, Capriati (these two on the same day) and Davenport.

Didn't New Haven used to be one of the hottest tournaments of the year? Strange how much it has declined.

I was just about to post this.

New Haven used to be such an awesome tournament. In 2001, Venus had to defeat Henin, Capriati, and Davenport CONSECUTIVELY, (6,3,2 in the rankings) in order to win the title. In a Tier II!

New Haven used to have such amazing fields. Capriati, Davenport, and Venus always showed. And now, nothing.

So Agnes is currently playing clay court events in Europe, then she will play a hard court event in Stockholm, then play the Olympics in China the next week, then fly to the other side of the planet to play NH the next week and will finally play the USO!!!

Talk about smart scheduling
She should add bali after the USO too!

Several top players want to enter the event. They just want to see how they fare in Beijing first.

Well if Aga was playing I'd be happy if I lived near New Haven. Her and Szavay are my favorite younger players.

Aside from the fact that Serena is at Stanford, I'm bored with the Stanford draw. The usual suspects. The Stanford tournament could seriously use an Aga or Agi.

pretty weak line up. sveta should have entered, maybe she'll get another walkover title :hearts:

come to think of it, why hasnt chakvetadze entered? she skipped the olympics so the logical thing to do is play weak ass events to gain confidence and points. can that wench be any more dumb?
