We can write in here all the stuff that is not Sveta related so that we have something to talk about and chat while Sveta is not playing as now (by the way I miss the excitement of her matchs even if it's usually nerve and suffering) and this way we keep the forum active.I've seen in forums of other players I visit they have that kind of thread. What do you think?

So I want to start this thread,as I didn't know exactly where to fit this message, wishing Mel (meltjuuuh) ,one of the nicest Sveta fans around a

VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! :bdaycake: Enjoy your day mel  have loads of fun and presents :D :wavey:

When did you guys first watch Sveta play/become a fan ? :)

the first match I remember watching of Sveta was 2005 Aus Open against Sharapova.I think during 2005 I was interested in her but wasn't really a fan,my interest became stronger when she became Amélie's doubles partner that year ;) Then I remember by the time she won Miami in 2006 I was already a fan,I was delighted with her victory and game there  That was the first big victory of Sveta that I lived as a fan, because when she won US Open in 2004 I was on travel so I didn't watch nor follow that tournament at all.

What about the rest?

well over here in the netherlands womans tennis came a little later like and 2005 beginning 2006 then she won miami 2006 and I loved her right away her style her way of playing the game and her personality but her personality came more forward at RG because they put more time in the players. and from that moment on I am a fan and follow everything she does.

2003, Carson. She played doubles w/ Martina Navratilova. (I did not see Sveta play singles at that tournament; I can't remember if she's already lost or if I just missed her match--which would have been on the outside courts.) Her doubles match with Martina was in the main stadium, right after Conchita Martinez played. I know I've told this story before, but everyone was yelling for Martina, so I (and some people around me) started yelling for Svetlana, so that she wouldn't feel left out.

I remember the first time I saw Sveta play was at the Gold Coast tournament in Australia in 2003. I was working at the tournament and got to watch the practices and some matches. Sveta was playing doubles with Martina Navratilova at the time. I remember thinking she had the grounds of a good game. From there I have kept an eye on her progress along with other players and have increasing become a fan. The retirement of Martina Hingis the first time and second meant that I started to support more players and Sveta was one of them.

I'm a fan of her game, her versatility, her spirit, character and personality - to me she is a 'refreshing' player on the tour. :worship:

yeah that doping scandal must have been hard for sveta  i only followed it vaguely as I was not a fan at the time as I said, but even in some russian interview of her from 2008 she was asked about that, which is kind of sad :(

and talking about her personality I remember I was completely charmed with her when I saw her karaoke of "I will survive" :p i think this was 2006 French Open, the year she got to the final :worship: then I heard her speak spanish (with Arantxa) after winning the SF and was :hearts: with her accent and laugh and joy

Now I am cheer for
1. Dinara - my second favorite this year,
2. Elena - she has something same with Sveta, and she has a pretty good season this year, but Elena is 4 years older then Sveta. If Dementieva would win this Slam I would have much more confidence in Sveta's better future.
3. Serena - is it normal, if she wins a Slam, but does not something special.
Just can't root for Jelena - I don't know why...

I watched USO 2004 final match and read the archives threads.
Many people here said she was no.1 materials and her forehand was the best.
It's funny when people change the ideas based on her results.
It's involved but her abilities are still there.
Now they say like they forgot about US Open 2004.

But you are refering to people in this forum or in general, teleri? because to me it's very obvious many people in this forum (not in Sveta's forum, but in the general forum) only embrace players when they are playing well and tend to forget all the rest. And well, every player goes through bad periods.I can't remember one that didn't.

Hopefully things will start soon working for Sveta again. She's too good, she has to rise again.

:)

People in GM are very good at stats and numbers and pics. I'm always amazed how they manage to have time to do something else. I mean I have barely had time since I start watching tennis. My social life is almost gone. I cancelled the trip to watch Svetlana play USO final last year. And when I tell my friends I watch tennis, most of them say Why do you watch it?... I don't know tennis...When I watch it, I fall asleep...and so on.

Bероника
Sep 21st, 2008, 06:06 PM
well I don't like when they talk so unrespectfully about someone doing the best she can her job.I think these people have no idea what it is to play professional tennis (not that I know either),I guess it's the easiest thing on earth to sit cowardly in front of your computer and laugh at someone when they surely wouldn't dare to repeat such things in front of the player herself. That goes for the treatment of all the players in GM,not only Sveta.

Why you cancelled your trip to US Open?

My friends also don't like tennis but I don't really care.I love it and the more I go to watch it live, the more I like it.

Hi all,
Sveta has moved in the 6th place in the race for the YEC. The two players we have to watch for now are Vera (2435 pts) and Venus (2247 pts). Vera and Venus are both playing in Zurich this week. The winner there will recieve 275 pts. So if Vera wins in Zurich she will move ahead of Sveta. Next week, Vera is scheduled to play in Quebec City which is a Tier III event and the winner will recieve 165 pts. Venus is not scheduled to play in Linz next week. So even with Sveta not playing the next two tournaments, if Venus and Vera do well, Sveta should still be in the running for the YEC. She has enough points so far. :worship: The player behind Vera and Venus is Radwanska and she has only 2096 pts. So I don't think we have to worry.
Keep the faith. ;)

Hi, Veronika, if you know russian quit good, you could find a lot of information about Morozova including photos here (http://www.wtatour.ru/index.php?showtopic=189)
and download her book "Only tennis" (http://www.bookssite.ru/lib/sport/morosov.rar)
I am not tennis fan for a long time, I just read a lot about her, I understood she was a baseliner who liked to finish point near the net.
I don't know what will bring their work . I just believe in Sveta's intuition and their talant of player and coach. And wish them good luck.

Well, in the RuNet you can download it as .rar file - I gave your one of links - I tried it, and it worked well for me. I don't know what is wrong.
Other way is public library like this http://morozova-olga.viv.ru/cont/morosov/1.html
I just don't understand how to turn over the pages, just change number at the end of Page URL?

"To be honest with you, I don't feel like I want to talk to Sveta [Kuznetsova] at all. I'm just very upset with the way everything has happened. I don't feel like I want to talk to her, that's it," -Dementieva

now that you said it,I remember there was a similar thread last year but I could not remember it was Diogenovna who started it.My memory is bad :o
Same way I can't remember now the username of the person who gave her a G  but it was a Zvonareva fan, that I remember.

By the way,the other day I was reading an article about that final Wozniacki-Kanepi and someone compared Wozniacki's game to Sveta's,but with less power.I don't really see the similarity of their games but I thought maybe anushka sees it and that's why she likes Wozniacki as well ;) I am more interested in Kanepi.I discovered her precisely in her match vs Sveta in Roland Garros this year and I've kept an eye on her since then.I like her game and seems like a nice girl and a fighter.Maybe next year she'll come to Madrid and I'll get to see her live along with other favourite players of mine.I'm looking forward to that tourney (specially to see Sveta again of course) even if I read the tickets are expensive :(

Well,I don't know why they hate her  but it saddens me a bit this hate is coming from Zvonareva fans since Sveta and Vera are my 2 favourite russians and they lived together special moments this year (see my avatar ;) ).The only explanation I can find is as Vera and Sveta started their careers around the same time and were both considered promising young players equally at that time and so far Sveta's career has been a lot better than Vera...maybe that's why.

Is the price the reason you are hesitating? I assume tickets for a GS tournament must be more expensive than the usual tickets, but it must be such an experience! Too bad Australia is sooooooooooo far away from me,I would really love to there one year :p

How are you with the counting? Actually I'm not losing sleep over the results :p

Hmm,no,I don't like Dinara all that much nowadays. After the doubles olympics loss some Dinara fans had nothing better to do than writting nasty things about Sveta and blaming her for the loss  ok,maybe that's one childish reason to dislike her but since then I've found myself rooting for her opponents more than her.And it didn't help she decided to skip Fed Cup final. Finally when I saw her in Moscow, obviously I was never going to be rooting for her as she was facing our Sveta in that match, but I wasn't really impressed with her.So now there are other players I prefer to win other than her ;) But don't worry if she ever faces Ana again (or Jankovic) in a GS final,I'll be all for Dinara :p

I like those, Mel :). The angel is really beautiful. You must be very artistic.

None on me, yet. I'm a little afraid of the pain, which is ludicrous because I've been in hard labor for 22 hours, had my appendix go pow, AND had gallstone attacks (Not all at once!). Now that's pain. But I'm a big baby when I have to get a shot, or get a papercut.

I've kinda sorta promised myself I'll get one for getting rid of the baby weight ("baby" is in kindergarten ). If it's on my abs, I really want it to stay put ;).

Someone I know knows someone (female) who has the inscription above the Gates of Hell from Dante's Inferno way, way up on her inner thigh . And I like Angelina Jolie's "Quod me nutrit me destruit” on her lower abs.

I just saw martina navratilova on oprah. She was there with Chris evert her long time friend. mostly it was about their relationship on court that they where enemy's. but off court they where the best friends and that after the match nomatther who had won they hold each other and helped each other with the emotions. And that they are still friends. then they showed what they are doing when they are at home. Martina they showed her walking with her dog and doing her exercises outside. they showed a little part of her house and her making a juice full of vitamins. Then at the end they talked about her not only being the first tennis player coming out being gay but that she was also out before ellen degeneres and mellisa etheridge. And how hard it somethimes was to come on the court and that everybody was yelling and screaming for her opponent but when she came up they yelled boo and stuff. and then about how her dad reacted on her being gay. that he at first said what did we do wrong as parents but soon after that start reading about it and was happy that her daughter was happy. and that was about it.

I'll look for it later. It's so good to see after so many years and despite a big rivalry they had and that their lives have now taken different paths,Martina and Chris are still good friends :D That's terrible that people booed her after her coming out, makes her move to be a braver one specially at that times :worship: I had already read about her dad's reaction in Martina's autobiography. It's an interesting book,by the way,I recomment it to anyone who is interested in that woman.

Vero-I read an autobiography of Martina's which she wrote in the 1980's; is there a more recent one around? I've always admired her; both for defecting, for becoming strong and muscular when it wasn't the "feminine" ideal, and for coming out and jeapardizing her endorsements and friendships. In a way, she was the prototype for a player like Svetlana, who is also very powerfully built  and not traditionally pretty by Hollywood's ridiculous standards (does that make any sense?)

As for what we're going to do until January :help:, I suppose I'll actually have to clean the house, do a proper grocery shop, and hit the gym as if I could actually build arms like Sveta's . I suppose the holidays are coming, too. I wouldn't blame Sveta if she sat on a beach for a month straight without one word about tennis, but we get used to her being around like one of the family! Maybe Mel will share her poetry here :).

Anything with Vera would be fine-I've grown to like her quite a bit.

 I meant what are we going to do tennis-wise? None of the other sports I find them as entertaining as tennis, and when Sveta plays even moreso,I'm hooked to my tv or computer screen.

Yes,that's the biography I was talking about. There was some other one published later (around late 90s) but sorry I can't remember the name.I think I borrowed it from library, that was many long time ago.Well I admire Martina for several things, but yes, that one too.I don't like Hollywood standards by the way.Too much fake for my taste ;)

well like with you I have on msn we talk we share stuff happy and unhappy with sveta as subject and without. When I think of the word family I think of that. If people want it we can start a sveta family we will share things we did and maybe even making a logo and a phrase where you can reconise the sveta family with and every time we are at a tournament or whatever we can use it and try to let sveta reconize us. I think it is fun for her to see that not only she has true fans but they also can get along with each other. Its just a idea just let me know what you all think. and maybe we should share it with other sveta sites too.

I have already met a sveta fan from germany and went to berlin with her and soon I am meeting a other sveta fan from here the netherlands and we are going to stuttgart together. I think that if we use the logo and stuff you can see they are part of the family and maybe can start a conversation or something. I personaly enjoy talking to sveta fans on msn and if anyone wants to add me feel free.

if people are interrested we can work the idea out. but that is what I think of it for now and if someone has ideas share it.

hope this makes it more clear for ya

Bероника

well that sounds like a fantastic idea,Mel and a fun thing. But I have no idea where you want to start.

Maybe you can start a thread for it where people can write their msn to stay in contact and propose and share ideas. What do you think ?

Then when comes a tournament where some of us are going to attent,we can talk about what kind of things we're bringing to support her (banners,flags...).

Only Sveta fan I've met for real is Noelia_Madrid.She comes here from time to time.Very nice girl. But sure I'd love to meet other Sveta fans if I had the occasion. Not always easy, you see, some other of her fans live in other parts of the world as Anushka or our american friends.

the msn thing and starting a thread about is a good idea I will start one soon maybe today or tommorow.

and if we use a logo or a quote. its easy to reconise the people maybe on tv or something and for other people maybe like sveta knowing we get a long and keep contact with each other. I mean if we say the quote a lot or use the logo a lot people will ask where it comes from.

and like meeting other friend I am going to germany this year maybe some other fans go to or when I am going to madrid you can reconise me.;)

I was thinking asking the moderator Lefty to put the important stuff threads about Sveta on important as the results thread is right now. What do you think? Because sometimes they get lost in between other threads.

I was thinking as important threads: Sveta articles,Photos of Sveta,Videos of Sveta,Sveta's ranking and maybe off-court pictures of Sveta (not sure about that last one). Then it's easier to find if they are always at the start of the forum. And then in the rest of the forum we can have the rest of threads (the off-topic ones or the ones dedicated to tournaments, that usually fall once the tourney is over).

Let me know what you think and if you think other threads here should be treated as important and I'll write a PM to moderator asking.

I saw some pictures over on Dinara's forum, and this sounds so shallow on me: I missed Sveta and Vera, and I didn't like Dinara's hair :p. It's funny how much "life" just one person can inject into an event, and how much we get used to seeing her.

Also,a bit sad today as I read Tatiana Golovin will probably retire because she has an illness. It's always sad when someone retires, but Tatiana is only 20 and for me she was one of the most talented girls of the new generation.Sveta and her seemed to get on very well by the funny photos last year at funfair in Stuttgart even if Tatiana was one of the toughest players for Sveta to beat on court. Really unlucky girl, after all the problems she's had with injuries, now this...

Same with Alicia earlier this year; she was Sveta's good friend and a promising player.

I agree Anne. I'm glad those of us here in this forum recognize that.
I just read an article in which John McEnroe said that the men's tour has "much more personality than the women's tour." :(
Now, we all know John is famous for running his mouth off - no secret there, but c'mon... Look at how charming and friendly Sveta is, look at Nadia and Dinara's passion and emotion, JJ's drama (whether you like it or not), the Williams sisters, Amelie (the sexy way she yells and pumps her fist - that's sometimes more "personality" than I can handle! :hearts:)... the list goes on. We have loads of personality, John!!! We're just not as crude and annoying about it.
Well, that's me on my soapbox.
Sorry, but I just had to get that out.

Cuz peter the great the person who made st petersburg to what it is went to amsterdam for a while and what he had seen there he used in st.petersburg when you see the maps of both city's they look a lot the same. Cold but sunny :). I live pretty far South in the US, so very little snow here. I miss my home state, where it snowed almost every Christmas.

haha, sounds funny Mel.Here it does never snow :(

What's your home state,Anne?

Here the electricity went off 2 hours ago and only came back now :o I was in complete darkness until now :( I missed the end of the Davis Cup match because of it.I don't really like watching ATP but as Spain was playing (and I saw Gaby Sabatini in the crowd ;) ) I was watching it.BUt I imagined if this had happened during an important Sveta match,I would have been really pissed lol

I live in Arkansas, Vero. I live in Little Rock, capital city of the state. Think next to Texas, but to the right . And yes, that's where Bill Clinton hails from.

I think back in the day, if I'd missed a Gaby Sabatini match, I would have been pissed ;) :hearts:.

ETA: Oh, my home state . I grew up in Ohio, on Lake Erie. Now that's snow! It's kind of a long story how I ended up down here; I do miss a lot about Ohio.

I know Ohio,I have some family there,in Columbus and in Cleveland, but I have not gone there since 1998 I think. That was long time ago.

Well one day you have time you can tell us how you ended up down there if you want to share,of course.

they are a bit smaller specially the little one they kinda have the same caracter and different coat. they have the same big paws. and long tail but that's all. I like new foundlanders too. but I like all dogs if I would have to choose a dog for my own it would be a french bulldog they are small and dogs with a lot of humour.

I was thinking of a action pic or a pic with her fist the famous fist when she wins a point or the match. I have so much pictures that I cant choose and I get dizzy from watching it all the time.

So maybe you can show me your favorites??

I just watch television and it was about moscow and st. petersburg it wasnt a happy subject. it was about HIV and aids and it suprised me that in moscow they dont even know how they can get it and well they know nothing about it. it was the biggest problem under the younger people between 16 and 30. I dont know if you guys know dance4life it is a project that learns people about HIV and aids through dancing. in st.petersburg they already know more about it but still it was a shock to me.

just wanted to share I was a bit shocked from it.

Анна
Nov 28th, 2008, 06:43 PM
Yes, I have heard of it: http://www.dance4life.com/ :). ATB, one of my favourite musicians, is an ambassador.

You might be surprised that in the U.S., HIV/AIDS is growing among middle-age women 30 to 50. Too many think they are "safe" because it "can't happen to them", that it's a disease of gay men. Even more dangerous is the assumption that lesbians cannot get it. I wouldn't be surprised if the U.S. was behind other countries in education about such things, either.
