I really like it, Mel :). And I just realized, that's the first time I've heard any of your voices . So much for any pride in my one semester of Spanish,Vero .

I'm positive Sveta won't be offended that you wished her well at Wimbledon. She would know this project took several days before her matches, and regardless of what happened, you did wish her well :). That's what counts.

but I have no merit at all for speaking such spanish while you learning a language that is not yours have much more,Anne ;) Are your teachers americans? It's also possible that my accent is different than the one you are used to hear. Spanish from America is quite different in accent from spanish from Spain.

My teacher is from Colombia :). She's been here since forever but still has a strong accent. You're right; I can understand the teacher, and the Mexicans who live here, and Shakira (even when she speaks ;)). But I was "wha..." :help: with you .

So who are you supporting at Wimbledon? If you are supporting anyone.Or maybe you are more interested right now in football world cup?

Not particularly interested in football,I have not watched a single match and I won't watch any,but I would like Argentina to win.Don't ask me why,but I'd simply like.

As for Wimbledon the players I would like to see win are highly improbable they do it.Not that I care a lot,i feel it's going to be a very boring second week slam again.

And what is worse is it's going to be a really long, boring month for SKFs :sobbing:

Coming in here to say that Pironkova played the match of her life out there-just on fire. I'd be meanly glad if she did the same to the other sister-in the final ;). Of course, maybe Na Li will handle the task sooner ;). I don't think little Bulgaria has had anything going on tennis-wise since the Maleeva sisters.

Would not be surprised if Venus retires from singles within the next year or so. It's been a long run. I can see her playing doubles longer-less wear and tear.

I don't know that this thing is also a problem for other users but I can't find all threads from Special K forum. The last ones are vanishing so for instance when I'm at the main Special K site I can see 16 normal (NOT important) threads. Right now the last one is Revenge @ Roland Garros. I've checked it at other players forums and there were like 2-3 pages of threads. Here is just one page so each last (oldest) thread is vanishing when new thread is coming. Any solutions??? :help:

Well vrochem as each of us is as well.

Because now is the time to slow down, although there is tennis, but not Sveta plays, and even some of those who I love, and rest - I too take a break and some time go on vacation.

How ironic is it that Spain and the Netherlands are playing in the World Cup final, and just happen to be represented on this forum? I don't follow at all, and lost interest after the USA bombed out :p, but I'll be interested again Sunday. If Spain wins, I think Mel should send Vero something Dutch, and if Netherlands wins, then Vero sends something Spanish ;). That's what usually happens between two mayors of cities in the Super Bowl, World Series, and NBA finals-they bet something representing their cities.

I've been wondering, do your countries have professional sports teams as we do in football(American), basketball, baseball, and hockey? I know obviously that you have your football teams, but maybe this idea of getting paid gabzillions of dollars to play a game is uniquely American. I'm just disgusted and angry, as you may have heard, LeBron James left Cleveland (near his hometown) to go to Miami, and in a callous way. Turns me right off.

Of course, most of you live in much smaller countries ;). By the time you drive the distance between Cleveland and Miami, you're two or three countries over :p. Russia is larger than the USA, but has a whole lot of country in relation to cities ;).

Dorien.

here is the lesson in life :p look where you walking cuz before you know it you make a miss step and you walk stupid for a month.

I was walking minding my own thing and all of a sussen there is a threshold and a make miss step. didnt hurt at first cuz ofcourse after lots of walking lately I made it worse and now a tendon(think this is the right word) is irritated and infected so it will take a month to heal.

but the docter loved my russian tattoo :p he even called out his secretary to come and she it. and she was touched when I told what it meant and wrote it down it was crazy.

Oh Mel . I hope your knee feels better very soon .

Ten years ago,I learned that inline skating is harder than it looks. Wiped out, breaking my elbow and spraining the opposite knee :P. I could hop around, but the hardest part was bathing while holding my arm out of the shower . I was late getting my elbow set (I thought it would get better on its own), with the result that I had several months of physical therapy after the sling. I can sympathize.

So I have no wisdom tooth left anymore ( all my wisdom is gone you'll have to ask someone else now for good advise :p ) my mum did a good job giving me only 3 of them when I was born now I wont have to go back anymore.

The bad news is the sedation(or hoe do you write that) didnt work everywhere so I felt everything and it hurts like hell.

Right now its a hour later and I finally get a bit used to the pain and will try to go to sleep now.

Oh well...

I was thinking about the very same thing some time ago. Even as you look at this thread there are suprisingly not many active people directly from Russia. As for other Russian players threads they are heavilly occupied by Russian fans. Maybe it's because Sveta was staying for a long time abroad? But she wasn't the only one, right? So I don't know, maybe it's because she's not the celebrity type of person (no commercials, parties, tabloid news and so on). But for me it's really weird coz IMO she's the most talented Russian player for years and she should be treated by Russians (I know she has many fans there, no offence) like a pearl in a crown ;) :worship:

Анна
Aug 27th, 2010, 08:20 PM
I understand, Vero. I think we had five straight weeks of 100+ temperatures here. It's only now broken for awhile.

I've had three major pieces of news in the last 24 hours :p. One great, one good, and one very, very bad:

The great: I received formal acceptance into the university teaching program I wanted, and spent today enrolling in my courses. I'll be teaching part time and taking those classes, and will be done with the program by next fall :bounce::bounce:. I received a grant because this state is so desperate for science teachers (I'll end up teaching high school geology and physics :help:).

The good: I'm going to be an assistant coach for my son's soccer team, nevermind that I have no experience . I'm glad to help out the kids.

The very bad: If you pray or keep people in your thoughts, could you do so for my brother? He's still a youngish man in his early 60's (at 47, 60 doesn't seem so old :p), and he lived in Switzerland for many years, ultimately becoming a citizen. He had a series of strokes and was in a nursing home over there for about the last two years. My nephew went there last week and brought him back to the States, to a veteran's hospital. He's worse than we thought. He can't walk or talk. He's helpless for every part of his care; basically paralyzed. This is a guy who spent 20 years in the military, was fitter than anyone I knew, and who ran marathons. Sometimes I have to wonder if it wouldn't have been kinder to him if he'd passed on.

Света_мой_№1
Aug 27th, 2010, 09:07 PM
I think we have talked about your brother before.
I normaly dont pray but for him I will tonight. Its strange how people can go from a strong and fit person to someone whe cant do a thing anymore and it goes ver fast

Thwn about the passing on it might be better for him but a lot of people will be hurt its not fair cuz if he stays alive he is suffering but when he dies the peopel left are in pain, either way someone is in pain.

I also hope you get through this in 1 piece and I am always there to listen xxx

Bероника
Aug 28th, 2010, 06:55 AM
Oh Anne,I'm really sad to read the bad news about your brother   I've never prayed so it wouldn't be of use doing it now,but sure he'll be in my thoughts.Life can be sometimes so unfair.Really hard situation, just be as strong as possible  and as Mel said,we are always here to listen

Good on your university teaching program, hope you enjoy it and learn a lot while doing it :yeah:

Seems like not only they changed the coulur of the court in Moscow, also surface:

Kremlin Cup – 2010: the new court surface 24.09.2010

The new type of surface – RuKortHardTournament- will be provided for the tournament “Kremlin Cup” this year. The company Concept 90 (Croatia) is the Official court surface supplier.

Technology of installation considers applying acrylic material on specially worked out PVC surface rolls. This technology meets requirements of tennis tournament organizers to install the court in very short period, so that the sport halls can achieve maximum utilization efficiency. The surface is developed according to new rules of ATP World Tour and Sony Ericsson WTA Tour which have considered requirements of tennis players to play all indoor tournaments on hard surface.

Tournament is held with the support of Department of physical culture and sport of Moscow.

well when I was there 2 years ago,it was cold but not that cold as I expected (I had my suitcase full with warm clothes because of the legendary russian cold) and it was ok,I'd say.

so according to this and Tarpishev Sveta has bronchitis

http://www.tennisforum.com/showpost.php?p=18634082&postcount=49

I can now understand it takes so long to heal.Back a few years ago I caught a strong bronchitis and it took me almost a full month to be totally healed. And yeah,it included loads of coughing which Sveta seem to be affected by it in her China match.

Yes,Diogenovna,I guess it's super important to be prepared for winter. How low can temperatures reach where you live? because I know not in all parts of Russia it is that cold

Enjoy your trip as much as possible Mel :D

I understand perfectly what you're saying:shrug: you would think Courteau would have thought of that before agreeing to coaching her in the first place:scratch:  but if I may can I play devil's advocate and suggest that Sveta could have flown to the South of France where Loic is from and train in the warm weather in the off season since Australia will be hot as hell?

I'm really worried for Sveta now, it seems as if she's so confused. I hope she re-hires Morozova, i thought she did a great job with her especially at the AO 09. I also think she should be credited more for Sveta's FO victory.

yes,one would have thought they would have spoken about this when they agreed to work together.but maybe they were just trying to see if it worked and then set more serious conditions.Obviously if the parts are not together,it's never going to work,or if they are together only for the tournaments as it seems it's been the case.

Sveta left Spain because she wanted to spend more time in Russia and is eager to get back there every time she has a chance.Even plans her schedule to be big parts of it there. To think she would spend 3 months outside Russia is simply dreaming  seems even a month outside it's too much for her.Last year she was a couple of weeks at Dubai during off-season but that was it.

Imo as long as Sveta tries to hire foreign coaches, she'll find the same problem.Westerners don't seem too enthusiastic to spend time there.

Of course she's confused: it's difficult situation for her.She wants to live in Russia but seems conditions to train there are not the best, and only finds difficulties (like finding a coach). But I fear if she had to leave again that would ended up with her getting really fast tired of tennis and travelling life. She already has seemed very unmotivated most part of this season...so yeah,it's worrying. It's obvious she can't have it all.

Wasn't there a coach thread by the way?

I had an etiquette question for the Russians :) Do you like diminutives for your real name? What is the etiquette of going from your formal name to a diminutive? We don't have them here, or they are used right away with no "wait".

I have a friend, Alexandra, on another site and wanted to know when I could go to a diminutive. Maybe I should just ask her when and what she prefers? :help::confused:. (We've been friends for about four months by now).
