There's a thread in GM about exhibitions to be played during off-season and I found Sveta is playing one in Dubai:

Date TBD - Dubai, UAE

Justine Henin, Dinara Safina, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Ana Ivanovic (draw TBD)http://www2.tennisforum.com/showpost.php?p=16718653&postcount=1

anyone has heard more about this exho? date? it's the first news I read about it

No, but I'll have a look later today, it was during all the hoopla of whether Justine was returning before she officially announced her comeback.

Well I had a look at Justine's official site and forum. All I found was people there asking when it is and when it will be announced,so they are as clueless as we are.

I have been to the michael jackson movie yesterday if there are any fans out here that didnt see it you should go and watch it or take a look at the dvd. It was amazing what that man had planned and no wonder he died doing things the way he wanted. I am going to order the dvd also cuz I had a anoying person next to me who ate chips with her mouth open. I stayed nice and acted like nothing was wrong. see how nice I am.

so is it worth going to see? im not sure if i like him or not. when i went cinema yesterday to watch something else they were selling all expensive michael jackson merchandise and stuff, way to exploit a dead guy, and not even for a worthy cause

well I think it was a good movie. but I already knew I liked him(as a artist, singer) what he was planning to do in his concerts was just amazing. he has a good ear for music and hears every note that you can also see in the film. and he is kinda fun too.

Hey, all :wavey:

I don't know if any of you get the show "The Amazing Race", about teams of two people racing around the world and doing crazy stunts, but this week's show was mostly in the Netherlands :). I thought of Mel, as they climbed a bell tower, learned a dance, or played a game something like a cross between golf and croquet. It's not a large country-I bet she's been to many of those places :).

And all I can say is that if wooden shoes were traditional, they weren't very practical for running ;).

I was absent this and maybe previous week. Did I missed any news? I'm trying to find a job now, I have never though that's it's THIS hard (well, I knew it's not an easy task but it turned out the toughest task of my life). No one wants to employ a unexperienced worker :( I feel like it was a big mistake to study at Uni, it was better to start to work after graduation from school so at present moment I could have 5 years of working experience. So I had a new topic to discuss here - How did u find your jobs (for those who found) or how are u going to look for it?

Well,Tati, unfortuntely at this moment,I don't know in Russia, but I guess situation is similar to here,it's very difficult to find a job :( I'm also looking for a full-time job (so far I can only find sporadic things) since some months and situation does not look like it'll improve soon.Important is not to lose hope, keep sending your resume everywhere, you never know where you can be called from.Actually I'm finding a lot harder finding a job now than when I was an unexperience worker as you mentioned ( I found my first job via internet only a couple of weeks after I applied for it). It's hard for people who have finished studying just as now to find something. My sister graduated as a lawyer more than 1 year ago and has not been able to find anything yet.Going to uni is never a mistake,Tati, sooner or later, someone will appreciate your knowledge,it's even more difficult to get a job without a degree, believe me.

So for me,to find a job I look for it on internet job sites daily,on newspapers, and I tell everybody I know I'm looking for something, they might hear or know about a job offer or someone who needs someone, you never know.Meanwhile as I don't like being with nothing to do,I've started to study a new degree this year,it might help in my resume later.I'm of the opinion, the more knowledge you get,the better,it can never hurt, quite the contrary.

Not sure any of this will help,Tati  Things are really fucked now :( I can only wish you good luck with it

Everyone is in the same situation at the moment. At least your making an effort with finding one. i know someone who is not really looking for jobs and will only apply for forensic science ones (bear in mind she has never had a job ever and she is 22) so has no experience. So she is living on benifits which suck

Анна
Nov 2nd, 2009, 08:19 PM
It is the same here, Tati. I'm a substitute teacher, but to be really more settled I'm going back to school for my teaching license. Then I hope I'll be able to get a job here, or I might have to move :(.

Do you have temporary work agencies there? If so, apply to several. At the least, you can sometimes get trained for more office skills and you get references.

Through contacts, I worked in one place for 8 years and built up contacts, I was headhunted by a private company 12 months ago. Unfortunately it's not going to help at this stage Tati, but when you do find work quickly start building up a good rapport with people ;) And fine tune your interview technique so that you come across as confident in an interview even if you are as nervous as hell. Oh and I know I'm being Captain Obvious but at the end of your interview always ask 1 or 2 questions about the company (it shows you are interested) and if you list hobbies on your resume/cv include some group activities rather than just things you can easily do by yourself, it reflects that you can be a team player.

we dont have that program in our country. I probable have been to the places that where in that program I dont know. maybe if you remember the names of the city's.

wooden shoes aren't made for running but for safety. when a farmer has to work with animals like cows and horses they can stand on your shoes but it doesnt hurt. and working with big tools is much more safe then with normal shoes. these days you have shoes with steel noses but the older farmers hang on to their wooden shoes.

Nov 5th, 2009, 08:33 PM
yes,I will think about new ideas,I've not been feeling well for the last couple of days so that's why I've not been on line much.

Not directly related to Sveta but the other day I was thinking of starting a thread named "The Russia thread" where we can post photos, news about Russia, dicuss things we find interesting about that country. It can be really interesting as an exchange since we have some russian posters and then people from outside Russia that are interested in the country and its culture. Also since some of us are learning russian maybe we can ask things or doubts there and the one who knows can help. What do you all think? It sounds to me like a good idea, but I want to know if there are more people interested in it.I don't want to be the only one posting there.

On another note,I can't believe Yanina has been suspended for 1 year! This is beyond absurd.I think the belgian doping agency is :tape: I remember how they handed the Sveta incident and now this, she didn't even test positive,it was their mistake. That can cause a big harm to the career of a young, promising player

the yanina thing is a big surprise  crazy but i cant believe she managed to miss 3 tests!! this reminds me of when christine ohuruogu got banned for the same thing , although i dont think people were as concerned about it as they are now, as if it was all christines fault. then she went and won olympic gold so it was all forgotten (perhaps a sign of things to come for yanina ;)) also i dont think the agassi thing has helped either

I just want to say that she has NEVER missed 3 testes. There were just 3 times problems with her whereabouts. But in the time they were problems with the system, she is tested by WTA and ITF.
The rule in Flandres is that 3 times problems with your whereabouts = positive test. And that means suspended for one year...

But she has never tested positive and the poor thing is that other persons who has tested positive, aren't that long suspended. If somebody can explain the logic in this things.

Since the 5th of November, my world is broken.

Bероника

Dorien  I can understand how upset you are about this.I'm not even a Yanina fan but I find this completely unfair. Some players that have really tested positive as Gasquet only got a couple of months,Yanina is not even positive and is punished was too severely :fiery: I blame this Agassi clown, since his confession the autorities want to really prove how hard they fight against doping and Yanina and Xavier are the first victims

i didnt realise it was because of problems, i just misread it as she simply missed them. now i see why your so upset, especially since you have followed Yanina for a long time. she's definitely right to appeal and hopefully she will get the result that we all know is right and she be back playing soon.

Nov 7th, 2009, 10:09 PM
Well it isn't that easy. It's a complicated story, maybe you better read some articles about it. But the point is that she can only go to TAS in Lausanne, what can take months and costs a lot of money. And they say the chance she is going to win it, is very small because the laws are very complicated to understand for people from other countries....
But it seems like whole Belgium is going crazy, there are already a lot of blogs, facebook groups, petitions... So i don't know what's going to happen in the next week,
but i'm really scared about it because like now the change that it stays like this is 99%

gdot
Nov 7th, 2009, 10:22 PM

the power of public opinion is huge, i think if people are feeling so strongly that will definitely help the appeal. they cant ruin her career just to make an example.

I'm staying at my parent's house while they are away. I had a drama filled night on Tuesday night when a possum managed to get stuck between the 1st & 2nd storey then proceeded to drop through a large air vent into the kitchen and onto the floor, the dogs chased it and it climbed up on top of the front door (which was open, it's been really hot). I wouldn't go near it because they have incredibly sharp claws and can jump, I went outside through another door and around to the front to open the wire screen door, then went back to bed at about 3.30am, by the time I woke up again the stupid furry thug was gone. I'm not sure if you have them in other countries but here's a pic of what they look like:

we only hae them in the zoo I believe but not just here in the wild. we dont have those crazy animals alive only crazy birds but that's it.
when annette and I where driving home from stuttgart there was a animal next to the road we where pretty sure it was a crocodile but it was dark. the crocodile (at least we think) came from the zoo because a truck stopped just after the crocodile and was open. but he shouldnt be outdoors I think we dont have them in wildlife over here cuz we dont have much wildlife.

what i've been up to and since we're talking animals,my old dog has problems in one of her eyes. She has an ulcer inside her right eye and I have to give her treatment 5 times a day but it's just not healing as it should, well actually it's not healing at all.Now I just came from the vet clinic again.

Well she told her side of the story. That she didn't know first that she had them to fill in (Because for the WTA you just have to do that when you ended the season in top 50), she had problems with log in and things like that.
Here you can find some things she said http://www.tennis-x.com/xblog/2009-11-12/2648.php

At the end she was thanking her dad and friends for keep believing in her and giving her a smile in these days. She also said this is harder for her dad and that it is very though for her, to see her dad crying and being sad. It was at the end and then she started crying.

Here I go barging in again :p

I was hoping Stef or Anushka could answer something for me. On another forum (an etiquette forum) I belong to, there's a big discussion about how wedding reception dinners are served. Let's say you're at a wedding reception in Aus. If there's a table of eight people for dinner, then persons 1,3,5,and 7 get the fish (for example), and persons 2,4,6,8 get the lamb. Then there's a big "swap-o-rama" until everyone's (mostly) happy. Is that common?

I think most people on that forum found this unusual because the vast majority are European and American. Most receptions are either a buffet, or you fill out a little card with your choice (commonly a beef, chicken or vegetarian choice) when you accept the invitation. The etiquette question was not so much about alternate drop as the fact that the servers automatically served all the women the fish, and all the men the lamb, on some theory that women get the "daintier" entree. I don't know about the rest of you, but there's nothing dainty about me, nor about my eating ability :p. Give me a big ol' slab.

Then someone brought up that some pubs in England automatically serve a woman a half pint, even if she asks for a pint. Sorry, that won't fly . Just give me the entire Guinness!

You learn something new every day.

Hell yes that's exactly what happens at weddings here, every 2nd person is served an alternative as you mentioned, if you know a lot of the people on your table you just swap, but the problem lies when you don't know anyone on your table, I absolutely detest fish and one bite of that disgusting vermin will usually leave me hurling for hours :tape: so I try to network pretty quickly and slide the question into the conversation  Many women I know don't eat seafood including fish so I think it's etiquette gone wrong to provide all the women with fish :p RANT OVER

And don't even get me started on serving women half pints.....pussies.

all I can think to find some confort today is that at least Sveta has still a lot of years ahead of her as she is still young.Once Sveta is done with tennis I'm done with following tennis players too,at least that close,it's just too sad to see them leave

 No Vero, no fish ;) It's the texture, the smell, the everything, according to rumour I did eat it occasionally when I was much younger but just to give you an idea of how much I dislike it - I can't open a can of pilchards or tuna for my cat without starting to dry retch, if I was on a deserted island I would eat leaves and starve rather than try to catch a fish and eat it, sometimes when I'm on the pier near my house and someone catches a fish and starts scaling it I start dry retching also. I've had to leave my work staffroom when someone cooks up a tuna sandwich because I'm scared I'll be sick.

I'm also very happy.

But i'm also scared because they already fight back against the decision. And i'm sure the wada is also going to do something because this decision also said there is something wrong with the system and they are scared for the worldwide fight against doping.

It's also waiting till what the TAS is going to say, so i'm realistic enough to know that the decision can change between some weeks.

I know and I can understand your decision.I just think it's sad that the whole atmosphere in this forum has to be that way, already there are not more forums dedicated to Eleni. But anyway you can still write to her on her website,I think and maybe you can consider having that person on Eleni's forum on ignore list, this way you don't have to read his/her bullshit and you can still visit the forum, but I understand you.I go less and less there also because of the same reason, but still I find it sad it has to be that way.

Well my oppinion is it's very easy (and coward) to go into a forum and critisize and laugh about a player only because she doesn't do what you want her to do.It's not as if the players owe us anything

Anyway it's good news that you reconsidered your decision :D I like reading you there. And I don't know if that's right but someone once said Eleni herself reads sometimes the forum so she better read support and postive messages from us than the other ones ;)

I seem to be missed on these parts :). I didn't think anyone would notice, but Christmas got away from me and so I wasn't here a lot. I'm so glad to have tennis back, and to be back here :hearts:.

I have a question, and you can tell me the truth ;). There's a debate going on on another forum I belong to, and I thought I'd put the question here, since most of you are not Americans. It's, do you find, in your experience, that Americans tend to speak too loudly or smile too much?

From my side, many Americans, especially from the South, are quite outgoing. We will start conversations with strangers in lines. Many are very demonstrative and "talk" with their hands. I felt I was shouting in England, even though I spoke at my normal tone, so I guess there's some truth to that. As for smiling, we do smile a lot at clerks and strangers. It's not uncommon to greet people on the street, even if you don't know them. I smile a lot when I'm excited, which I would be in a foreign country. I also start laughing when I'm nervous . I've read that smiling too much can be interpreted as being suspicious or just plain flighty.

I'll try to remember these differences when I'm overseas ;).

Света_мой_№1
Jan 6th, 2010, 08:47 PM
well I only see americans on tv. they can make everything so big with the smiles and talking but as far as I know they only do it in front of a camera or press or something. over here we talk to strange people walking the dogs or as you said in line. we always smile to each other and say hi to people we only see a lot like walking the same round with your dogs. I think you can never smile enough but you have to mean it. I like smilling a lot and noticed it can make someones day easier. when I ride a bike or as I said walk the dogs and smile to someone they always smile back and soon after that they start conversations we all need to get a long with each other. it makes my day better when people smile outside world is to stressed already. but maybe I am not the right one to judge cuz we are very open in this country also. but for me as a person I love it and I think you should not stop doing it to me there is nothing more beautifull then seeing someone smile.

Americans are more open than english people. People here could stand at a bus stop or ina queue for hours and not actually speak to the people around them. Northerners usually are more open and are louder. i enjoyed it in America because people were so much more friendly. I laugh when i get nervous too in certain situations its embarrassing

I always like to read you here Anne :D To answer your question about americans,I guess it all depends with who you are comparing. For exemple, spanish people is a lot louder than americans. When the american part of my family comes to Spain and have a big gathering with the whole family (spanish and american) in it,you can really see this difference. My american cousines and aunt are never too loud, but usually soft-spoken while the spanish are most of them, very very loud  :help: I'm spanish but I don't like nor enjoy that loudness at all :o (when you go to a restaurant, everybody is speaking so loud, sometimes you can't even listen to what the person in your table is saying :help: )so not being loud is not a bad thing in my eyes.Maybe if you compare americans to french they might be a little louder, but generally I wouldn't say they are loud.French tend to keep their manners more even when they are saying nasty things. I thought russians were soft-spoken too, except when they are drunk, then they become really loud, starting singing and all  As for americans smiling too much, yes, generally I think that is true but that's definitely a positive thing.World would be a better place if people smiled more.

And yeah,I've lived that, strangers engaging on a conversation while you are in a queue.I don't know if it's a general thing for all americans or that I fell on nice people. But here it's also a normal thing to do that, while waiting on the bus for example, some makes a comment about anything even if you don't know them.

Also I have to say even if it's a bit off-topic I think belgians are really nice people. They say hello all the time + I got helped by a belgian couple to find the way to my hostel even when I had not asked for help! This is something that would not happen here.People only answer if they are asked, specially to foreigners :o

Thanks Anna, I've been changing it every few hours because I will revert back to a Sveta avi & sig when she starts playing again ;)

Um I'm not sure particular behaviour can really be defined by a country  over here for every nice Aussie you meet that is friendly there will be other's who will be cold towards you. I kind of think it's individual, your personality, how you were raised etc  Therefore I can't make a general statement about Americans only to say that the one's I know are nice :yeah: If I saw someone who was smiling all the time I would probably think they were just friendly and had a happy personality, other Australians might presume you were dodgy or simple minded.

I love snow but its snowing for to long over here now and tomorrow we have a lot of snow. I love to see snow but traveling gets harder over here and the salt for the roads is almost gone.

Same here, it's for some weeks already that snow and ice are here and it's enough now. I just want to travel without all the problems :o

Hi Camilia!
How were your exams?

 Mel,I wrote you a message there. It's supposed to be to talk with other people and to write what you want, but I'm not sure,I'm just discovering it also.I read some players have it,I was hoping Sveta was one of them, but no.I also can't wait for Sydney.I can't believe it's so close now after this very loooooong, neverending wait  (ok,I'm exagerating, but it felt like it.I even miss the sleepless nights :help: )

Not so bad, I think I did pretty well, just hated studying day and night :p

Can't wait for Sydeny too :bounce:
