I wish they weren't playing so soon. I know WTT is fairly easy going (one set matches right?) but they had a heavy day on Saturday and Serena has to be the other side of the county on Monday.

I hope we don't see more burnout this year. At least Venus will have a decent break after WTT.

Well as long as they're healthy, I'm glad they are playing. Serena looked like the healthier one when they played the doubles. Poor V was all wrapped up on her arms and knee. Besides, WTT is all fun and absolutely no pressure. And since they admire BJK, they are going to follow through with their commitment. Now if Venus was playing a ton of tournaments during this summer, I would worry. Serena, I think really wants to get to number 1 and as long as he plays well at the tournaments, she can get there.

WILMINGTON, Del. - July 8, 2008 (WPVI) -- Venus Williams could be reveling in the fact that she just won her fifth Wimbledon title - and seventh Grand Slam championship.

But tonight, her focus is on future tennis stars in Delaware who are inspired by her achievements.

"I'm just happy to be here, to be able to hit with her. It's really exciting," said 17-year old Serena Walker.

The kids were part of a youth tennis clinic at the duPont Country Club led by Venus Williams.

Williams won her 5th Wimbledon singles title over the weekend after a heartpounding match with her younger sister Serena.

After the two battled for the trophy in the grass court grand slam, Venus and Serena later joined forces to win the doubles championship. For now these local kids look forward to having the champ all to themselves.

"For us to hit with her, that's going to be very special. I just want to say Venus, we love you and we appreciate everything you're doing for us," said 15-year old Alex Oates.

Venus was in town to play with the Delaware Smash Tuesday night in a World Team Tennis pro match.

Serena/Gimelstob lost to Kops-Jones/Hadad?: 2-5

Serena/Mashona beat Kops-Jones/Pelletier: 5-4(4)

Serena beat Pelletier: 5-2

Serena played overtime and led Pelletier 2-1, but Pelletier only needed one game to clinch the match, so they stopped.

It was so much fun, and Serena actually played great in the singles, with about 6 or 7 aces. I will do a more in-depth report tomorrow.

I agree,
In fact, from years past , this has never been good for Venus.
She get exhausted and skip the real hard court tournament.
As a result, she is ill prepared by the time of the US Open.

Hopefully, this being an Olympic year, it will be different this time.

Serena looked like she had fun. She even stopped and did a little bootie shaking to the music for like two seconds. Gimelslob played terribly. He couldn't make a volley or a first serve to save his life. His partner in the doubles Scott Oudsema was equally awful. Mashona played respectably, but i must say, Boston's Raquel Kops-Jones played very good doubles and has a bangin body to boot. As for Serena, she looked just okay in the doubles. She covered her side of the court, but as usual didn't poach or assert herself, which works when she's sharing the court with Venus, but notsomuch with her partners last night. Finally in the singles she really shined, but by then the Kastles were so far behind she had to win like 5 games in a row to force overtime. All in all it was fun, but without Serena, I wont be returning. I was also left wondering how the Kastles managed to win their first two matches without Serena. The other teams must have realllly sucked.

but that's his only game! :haha: If he can't serve and volley well, he and his doubles partner are screwed. Coming into the match, he must have been nervous that the crowd would boo him off the court or something like that.

Not really, Serena was way fitter in 2002-2003, if you fail to acknowlegde her lack of court coverage and speed on court in comparisson to then.... it's just..

Compare her to Venus who still has not lost much in that cateogory and is still on the quickest players around despite being older.

She didn't win all of her GS titles in '02-'03. She's made it to 5 GS finals since then, and if you fail to acknowledge that, then...it's just... She had enough court coverage and speed to get to those finals and win three of them.

The point is that Serena's movement is nowhere near as it was, and as i said with that butt she won't be winning many more slams, than for example Venus Williams will.

:wavey:

:bs: You just wanted to say something negative about her butt. Her butt is not dragging the ground and keeping her movement slow. If anything it is as a result of her knee surgery which, no matter how much weight she loses, she will never have the mobility she had pre-surgery.

She has consistently made more GS finals then anyone else currently on tour, even playing part time since '03 when she wasn't as fit as she is now. With that said, she has just as much chance, if not a better chance to win more slams than anyone else currently playing. So, please go someplace else with that bullshit.

Well looking at the picture she definetly does not look fit, yes her butt has something to do, but that is not everything.

Serena needs to get her act together and pretend that there is no one else better than her like she did at the very start of 2002 (she said something like she was amazed on how many names were above her in the rankings and that she was ready to prove it).

As for WTT is very remarkable that they played on this considering how far both went and how much they played at Wimbledon (Singles and Doubles). The video of the tennis clinic that Venus did was very touching as well.

That's not the reason and she is certainly not packing pounds like Kuzy, Bartoli and a few others. The reason she is slower is because anytime you have surgery on your knee, it's never the same. She cannot push off on that knee like she did in '02/'03, but she doesn't need to be as fast as she was, because she is a smarter player now. Champions find a way to retool their game in order to win when they are not at their best physically. However, with that said, she is still faster than everyone else on tour, with the exception of Vee, Zheng Jie and Dementiava.

seriously though, there's a reason why she injures her knee a lot. That's too much junk in the trunk to carry around the court. I'm not even saying that she's fat, I know she's always had a big ass, but it's definitely gotten out of control in recent years.

What is she supposed to do about it? Have surgery to get rid of it? She's always had the same ass. Have you ever watched track and field, football, or any running sports. Most black people, men and women in those sports have big hard asses and it doesn't hinder them. It's all muscle. Serena's ass is 90% muscle. Trust me, if it weren't you'd see a whole lot a jiggling on court and wonder if it was jelly, cause jam don't shake like that. Her ass is not the trouble with her knee, and she doesn't injure her knee alot. But, I don't have the time, nor the inclination to explain to you what has been reported about her knee troubles.

Sometimes I wonder how long some people have been following the WS and if they really do follow them still with some of the comments they make. I don't mean to get upset because you're free to have an opinion, but when your opinion is not based on fact it's just annoying.

I think that if you put Vee 02 Vee 08 Serena 02 Serena 08 ina race. It would be very close between all of them.

BUt to me serena was super fast back in 1999 2000.
You certainly did not see her match against Capriati at Roland Garros 2002

Yeah, Richard paid off all of their opponents in each round to set Vee up to win the Championship. :haha:
