Who owns a record...won/lost matches in women tennis history (at the end of the year of course)?
I know that Hingis had a brilliant score won/lost matches in 1997... only few lost matches 6 or 7 (I think)...
Who's got more info...??:wavey:

Single year is Navratilova, who lost just one match in '83 or something.

Career is Evert, with a 90% win-loss record.

71-5 in 1997 for Hingis.

The more amazing stat for Navratilova is when you combine her singles and doubles records for 1983. She lost 3 matches combined, and won over 140. Stunning.

Yap....I've just checked...
She had 36-0 at the start of the season, 1st and only lost in that year - '83 came at RG in the 4th round, she went down 2sets to 1 against some girl Horvath (or something like that), and after that 50 matches in a roll she has won...

She lost to Davenport in a warm up to US Open.
I believe she also lost to Lisa Raymond (can't picture that now, can ya?) and Patty Schnyder as well.

I'm also not 100% certain but I think Mary or Jana defeated her at YEC in '97.

The only time Hingis lost in 1997 was when her comstumer
who had the white powder came late to the match.

Well... what Hingis did in 1997 at the age of only 17 yo would stay for a loooooooong time as a record in many ways....

Navratilova holds the best single season with 1 loss. Graf must have gone close to the season best?

Margaret Court was close - her best individual year was 1962 Played 18 tournaments Won 16 singles, 13 doubles. Tournament singles win-loss: 79-2

Court has the modern career record with overall career matches win-loss 1177-106 (92%)

Navratilova has the best Open Era (after 1968) record with her one loss.

Before that Alice Marble went undefeated for over two seasons. Her last defeat was at Wimbledon in 1938, after which she went unbeaten for the rest of her amateur career. Over the 1940 and 1941 seasons she won over 100 consecutive matches with no defeat.

Reaching back before that Helen Wills went undefeated for 7 years (1926-1933). Wills played only a few events a year though. When she lost she had won over 150 consecutive matches.

Suzanne Lenglen holds the most impressive one year record. In 1923 she was 66-0, winning 16 singles titles!

I could've sworn Hingis' record in 1997 was 75-5. :S

I still think that Hingis hold the most impressive record in 1997. We have to take in consideration opponents at that period....Graf, Seles, Davenport, V Williams etc etc.... :D
