I guess she has probably the best slam record of active players who have never won a slam.

Plenty of better players than her who never won a slam who have long since retired.

i think there's still a slam waiting with elena's name on it. sad to say that the matchpoint she had agaisnt safina might have been her best chance to win one, with sveta and ana awaiting the winners... but i dont think she'll be recognised as the best player never to win a slam because of her serving problems.. not by real fans, but by the commentators and other media. she's not really respected by the tennis world, i mean i only really noticed when she played venus but no one gave her even the slightest chance!

She's too much a Russian clone, their a dime a dozen, I dont think she has the special enough champion qualities to win a slam....... but then again Svetlana won one so anythings possible

This thread is not about the worst player ever not to have won a slam.

She is.
Followed by Jankovic, who might overtake her soon.

Well, both Jankovic and, even more, Dementieva, surely got that achievement in sight without capturing it, but as far as the quality of tennis goes, I would say Patty Schnyder.

She is one of the most talented players out there, wicked lefty forehand, knows how to volley, nice sensibility on dropshots, knows how to move the opponent around the court...But alas, we know she has a whole slew of other issues when it comes to match management.

No. Her win - it will be the worst day in women history. Player who doesn't know how to serve second serve, poor drop shots, no volleyes and cross court shots in 90%. :tape:

I think there is always a chance for Elena. She has made multiple slam finals and semi-finals. I think the US Open is a good bet for her - she has always done well there but fallen at the last or penultimate hurdles four times.

Maybe, all she need to do is cure her Nervous Sydromne when closing out matches or at a start of a matche, she should try Sky Diving or Bumjee jump :roll eyes:

Yes shes done, there is no way dementieva can win a gs, her best chance was wimbledon, after that she can only hope for the rest of the top ranked players to be injured or retired to even think of winning a grand slam, and with the dominance of serena-venus "the williams chimps" ...oops "champs" its going to be certainly out of reach. :umbrella:

Slams, rankings, titles, they are all irrelevant.

Dementieva is the best player ever.

weirdly i would have thought the oz open would be lenas best shot at a slam, she is incredibly fit so can withstand the heat. the courts should suit her game, its the 1st slam of the year and you often get a few unfancied players go far.
