they have to fit flood lights because of the roof, but does that mean there will be night matches played?

if so, how do you feel about that?

i personally think it will be a good move. wimbledon needs to break away from some of its traditions if it is to keep up with other grand slams.

Erm think it would be cool, but the reason Wimbledon is so special is because of it's tradition so I don't think they will!

I really doubt there will be night matches.

Maybe if they are having flood lights it will mean that the last match on centre won't be suspended due to limited light though? who knows.

I remember hearing that the court will have lights for when the roof is closed, and they'll use the lights to continue with matches that haven't finished yet but they won't be scheduling a night session.

I think a problem is that it gets more humid during the night, which makes the grass slicker and players will slip more. I heard someone once comment on that. That could be an issue.

I doubt it they'll be doing night matches, Wimbledon is too traditional. But they are installing an air conditioning system aimed to help tackle the humidity, but stil doubt they'll be doing night matches.

I assume they'd have to have some lights for when the roof is closed. But the roof is made of a translucent material; the idea was always to let natural light through to the grass.

The reason for not playing late or early in the morning is that the grass gets covered in dew and becomes too slippery. I suppose the airflow system they are installing may help to remove some of the moisture so they probably could play on later than they have done.

Here's the vid of how the roof will work for those who haven't seen it: What Centre Court will look like in 2009 (wmv) (http://pl.wimbledon.mediazone.com/p.asx?url=http://mfile.akamai.com/25457/wmv/wimbledonxp.download.akamai.com/25457/wimbledon/streaming/2007/centrecourt_2009.wmv)
