Said their mother and coach, Oracene Price: "Well, you know, she's going to have to learn how to suck things up. Say, 'OK, I'm not going to win everything."'

That's what most of us have been saying for years. It took Serena losing a slam final to her sister for the Williams fans to come to that realisation too.

On the other hand, at least she's consistent with her behaviour. ;)

Complete with the REST of the quote.

Your reputation for your hate of Serena PROCEEDS you.

I don't understand all this "Serena can't have everything" talk. Serena didn't merely "win" those Slam titles over Venus. She worked her ass off and competed like hell to earn what she got. It's not like she threw a temper tantrum and got what she wanted all these years just because she was "Baby Sis."

(Not that this is what people are directly saying, but that's the sentiment I'm getting from commentators, fans, critics today.)

I like Oracene so much...you can really see why she's both a great mother and a great coach.

If serena wasn't that fiercesome or 'greedy' for success se would be a one slam wonder like Kim. It is her fight, her refusal to lose and or even accept its' possibility that has probably propelled her to 8 slam wins. Serena is yet to roar even more firsecely, i can sense her determination bringing her to a whole new level.

Yes but it's a double-edged sword : she hates to lose so much that on D Day it totally crippled her, she was subdued throughout the final by trying too hard.

so it's ok for you to bitch and moan over Serena's attitude but Serena can't bitch and moan over losing a big match?

Venus finally beat her in a slam final - what else do you want? You should be enjoying this moment...you wont feel it again for another year

I have to agree with Oracene on this. One thing that Serena did so well in 2002-2003 was her ability to shake off bad sets, games, or patches of play and turn the match around. Hanging her head like she has been lately isn't going to help her turn negative situations into postives, ask Lindsay Davenport. Once Serena changes her attitude on court, she'll begin to rack up the GS titles again.

I understand where Serena's coming from though. I practice 5 hours a day sometimes and still I don't play as well as I would like to in matches, which is discouraging. Serena's a perfectionist and sometimes when you aren't achieving perfection throughout a match, you become negative and the errors start to flow off your racquet. We've seen that on about three big occasions now this year (Miami final, Charleston final, and now the Wimbledon final).

Ya think? Serena has a right to her attitude and emotions after losing, because she really wanted to win her 3rd wimbly, 9th slam...but seeing how happy she was with Vee during the dubs and then winning it, that joy and sisterly love erased everything. She was pissed for a hot minute and then got over it....and so should we.:p

OMG, seriously this is getting so boring now

I'm personally glad Serena was so pissed off after losing to her sister no less. It just shows how bad she wants it.

People would claim it was fixed if she wasnt bothered and that she was a spoilt brat if she was. I personally dont believe Oracene would have meant to say anything of this sort in a negative way and I am also glad that Serena didnt just accept the loss.

You do know people are gonna come out and say the same thing about Serena not winning a slam anywhere else besides Australian every other year.
