2. Women's Singles: First-round result (Monday 23rd June)
--------------------------------------

- MARIA KIRILENKO [19,DF] lt. Vera Dushevina, 3-6 3-6

Maria's defeat is very disappointing, considering that she recently won Barcelona (albeit on clay), and how badly Dushevina played at Eastbourne.

--------------------------------------
3. Women's Doubles: First-round result (Wednesday 25th June)
--------------------------------------

+ Maria Kirilenko [DF]/Flavia Pennetta [DF] d. Jill Craybas/Caroline Wozniacki, 6-1 6-3

------------------------------------
4. Mixed Doubles: First-round result (Friday 27th June)
------------------------------------

+ Maria Kirilenko [DF]/Igor Andreev d. Dominika Cibulková/Michal Mertinak, 4-6 6-1 7-5

---------------------------------------
5. Women's Doubles: Second-round result (Saturday 28th June)
---------------------------------------

- Maria Kirilenko [DF]/Flavia Pennetta [DF] lt. (SANIA MIRZA [DF]/BETHANIE MATTEK)[13], 3-6 4-6

-------------------------------------
6. Mixed Doubles: Second-round result (Saturday 28th June)
-------------------------------------

+ Maria Kirilenko [DF]/Igor Andreev d. (SANIA MIRZA [DF]/MAHESH BHUPATHI)[11], 7-6 (7/4) 6-3

------------------------------------
7. Mixed Doubles: Third-round result (Tuesday 1st July)
------------------------------------

+ Maria Kirilenko [DF]/Igor Andreev d. Nicole Vaidišová [EF]/Lukáš Dlouhý, walkover

What a shame. This would have been such a mouthwatering match, and the BBC might even have televised it rather than showing the same Men's Doubles match on BBC 2 and Freeview 302.

8. Mixed Doubles QF TV-report: Kirilenko/Andreev v Peschke/Vízner
-----------------------------------------------------------------

+ Maria Kirilenko [DF]/Igor Andreev d. (KVETA PESCHKE/PAVEL VÍZNER)[3], 6-3 6-4

Matt Chilton described this meeting as two young singles-players against two experienced doubles-specialists.

Maria certainly picked a good mixed-doubles partner in Andreev, who has a massive serve and equally massive forehand, and also happens to be her boyfriend!

It's often the partnership with the best rapport that wins the Mixed Doubles title at Wimbledon - that certainly was the case in 2006 (Vera Zvonarëva and Andy Ram) and 2007 (Jelena Janković and Jamie Murray).

Maria played very well herself, with some stunning return-winners, and looked absolutely delectable, as usual.

This match was second on Court One, following a lengthy Men's Singles quarter-final with two rain-delays, and started at 18:47 BST.

The Czechs won the toss and elected to receive.

PESCHK/VÍZNER _*___*@__ 3

Andreev has some big power on his serve and forehand!

Maria is receiving in the deuce-court.

Vízner serving 0-1: Maria hit a "stunning" backhand return-winner down Vízner's backhand-sideline that impressed the commentators and drew a loud cheer from the crowd. 0/15. Service-winner out wide. Deuce #3. Peschke crosscourt backhand drive-volley winner off the frame on the third stroke. Ad Vízner. Service-winner out wide.

Two break-points go begging, as Vízner is serving much better to the ad-court than to Maria in the deuce-court.

Maria serving 1-1: Service-winner out wide. 15/0. Andreev crosscourt backhand volley just wide. 15/15. Serve out wide + Andreev crosscourt forehand volley-winner. 30/15. A lot of communication between Maria and Andreev between points.

Andreev ran down a dropshot and bisected the Czechs with a crosscourt backhand pass-winner. 0/30. Peschke hit a stunning crosscourt forehand winner. 15/30. Vízner netted a backhand volley. An important game for Maria next, because the Russians are only up by a break of the Czech woman's serve.

Maria serving 4-2: Peschke forehand winner down the line. 0/15. Vízner backhand return-winner down the line. 0/30. Service-winner. 15/30. Peschke netted a backhand volley. 30/30. Peschke forehand winner down the line off a rather slow crosscourt forehand from Maria. 30/40. A testing forehand return from Vízner induced Andreev to hit a forehand volley long.

Peschke serving 3-4: Maria dumped a forehand return into the net. 15/0. Peschke backhand long. 15/15. Double fault (second serve into the net). 15/30. Andreev's forehand was called long but overruled as good, so they replayed the point: Peschke blasted a forehand wide. 15/40. Service-winner out wide. 30/40. The Czechs tried the I-formation, but Andreev blasted an off-forehand pass-winner past the hapless Vízner.

Andreev serving 5-3: Ace (127mph). 15/0. Vízner crosscourt backhand return wide. 30/0. Short-angled second-serve ace out wide (111mph). 40/0 (SP #1). 2. Mixed Doubles SF TV-report: Kirilenko/Andreev v Srebotnik/Bryan
(Friday 4th July)
------------------------------------------------------------------

- Maria Kirilenko [DF]/Igor Andreev lt. (KATARINA SREBOTNIK/MIKE BRYAN)[1],
4-6 2-6

Chris Bradnam suggested during the warm-up that the Russians could spoil the party for the top seeds by being relaxed and going for their shots.

Sam Smith: "She's so elegant, isn't she, Maria Kirilenko, the way she walks and carries herself. She was a ballet-dancer for quite a long time when she was a youngster - probably gave it up when she was about 12/13."
Chris Bradnam: "It's given her a good straight back!"

But Srebotnik/Bryan showed that they are the top seeds for a reason: two highly accomplished doubles-players working together at the net, against two singles-players who play up and back.

Srebotnik/Bryan weren't broken at all in this match, capturing Maria's serve once in each set, and Andreev's in the second as he struggled with a right-elbow injury.

Sam Smith: "Kirilenko has nice returns, and very very natural volleys, but the Kirilenko-serve is the one to go after."

Sam Smith: "Andreev will really have to get involved, and protect her - especially behind that second serve."

Maria serving 1-1: Serve + Andreev forehand volley-winner down the middle. 15/0. Bryan crosscourt forehand volley-winner. 15/15. Bryan forehand volley-winner. 15/30. Bryan played a good spreading rally to pull the Russians far apart from each other, and hit a crosscourt backhand volley-winner. 40/0. Service-winner out wide.

Maria serving 2-4: Maria mishit a crosscourt forehand lob long & wide. 0/15. Maria hit a lovely body-jamming backhand at Kata's feet. 15/15. Maria did some sexy leg-stretching exercises while she was waiting.

Chris Bradnam: "We are seeing some terrific doubles here. Loads of movement. It's important to have all this movement, because if you can get your opposing team to be focused on what /you're/ doing, it's half the battle. With a bit of luck, it's gonna help at the moment for Andreev/Kirilenko."
