Welcome to Palermo! The 42nd tournament of the Tennis Tipping season. Read the rules and sign-up information and then decide to join!

Playing the game is simple:
- Before the tournament starts the qualifying and the main draw are made.
- If you're in the qualifying you send in your pick of day 1 matches in a PM to the person running the tournament. You also send the exact score of the chosen matches by the person running the tournament as a tie-breaker. There will be two qualifying rounds for singles held on Sunday and Monday. Qualifying rounds for doubles are on Monday and Tuesday.
- Main draw singles starts on Tuesday, while the doubles event starts on Wednesday. All qualifiers and players directly into the main draw send their picks and the exact score of the tie-breaker scores to the person running the game. Set ratios are needed if there are less than 8 matches. This will be indicated in the order of play.
- Results will be posted as soon as possible. Previews are given when possible.
- You have to send your picks, before the first match of the day starts, if you send your picks late, you will be replaced by an alternate. In later rounds only matches not played will be counted.
- If a player doesn't not send picks in the first round of a tournament by the start of play, then a LL is replacing him in the draw (this does not apply in later rounds)
- A match will not count in case of a retirement, withdrawal, if a player is defaulted or any late schedule changes
- You get a point for each correctly predicted winner. Set ratios are used to break a tie, when there are less than 8 matches
- Notify me if you committed but do not see your name on the entry list after the commitments close. All picks should be sent by PM, in case if the board is down for more than 1 day, the tournament will be cancelled.

Don't worry, my little one. I will still safely guide you through the hardships of life and this tournament in particular. You should draw comfort from the fact that your older guardian is human too, but nevertheless remains the strong rock you can depend on.

Singles commitments have been closed. There will be one qualifying round on Monday for three remaining qualifying spots. Main draw will start on Tuesday. Anyone entering still will be an alternate for qualifying.

You can still commit doubles teams until tomorrow, so if you have not found a partner yet there is still time.

Recap of day 1:

* Today's action brought three qualifying matches, while the rest of the players were out on the practice courts getting ready (those shorts looked really too tight, Paul!).
* Unlucky player of the day was Juakos17. It looked as though he had qualified, only to find the Palermo tournament site got a result wrong. He even had one of the top scores of the day. As top lucky loser he may still get a chance to redeem himself.
* Chinese second seed in qualifying 1987518LPF was the lucky player out there. He failed to send one pick, but it did not become fatal. He can really thank Brianti for going against the odds and taking out Pavlyuchenkova.
* In other matches Starluk and Xadimexadozenx (I will probably go crazy if I have to type that name all week) scored wins to qualify. Capriati Rules was the only seed in qualifying to go out, with also the lowest score of the day. Let's hope the doubles will be better for him.
* Tomorrow should see full MD action. Italy has three home stars playing with Forza Pennetta the highest ranked among them. Can he perform under the pressure of his home crowd wanting an Italian to hold that throphy at the end of the week? Top seeds Dementieva_Dude and Rik. will probably want to prevent that. Or will Matt-what's his number again go for it and steal the coveted prize, will it rather be his one-week partner Adam (do remember Adam to bring my doubles partner back in one piece or Jess will have to start interviewing new partners) or maybe British hopeful Jazar? We will see when things unfold.

Recap of day 2:

* The entire organisation committee of the Palermo is now on my hitlist, so they are happy to conclude my mafia connections are not too good just yet. But let's get to yesterday's action, but not after thanking Paul for his kind help.
* There were plenty of surprising results out there, so after the first few matches were concluded, many a player must have wondered, if one or two points would be the most reached for the day. De Los Rios was the first to upset Rezai, what most people did not expect. Bg17 and Starluk did pick Rosanna, but they were playing each other, so it did little for them. Chaknashvili was next, seeing off Wickmayer. Gavnich77 was the only to pick her, only to lose his match later though. And Han was following soon, sending Kerber home. Fencer and Andiyan were the only ones to pick her. They both won their match, so a surprise pick can certainly pay off
* The seeds were none too happy out there either. Second seed Rik. was the highest seed to lose, but running Budapest must have been done away with his focus a little. MH0861, the third seed lost a close tie to Canadian Canuck (Canucks are always Canadian I think, but you know what I mean). He did laugh at his partner Adeegee for being seeded in singles. Ironically Adeegee did win, and Matt is left training for Thursday when the doubles starts for them (after a bye).
* Other seeds to fall were In the Zone, making Jamie RS very happy. According to his own account he has been terrible so far this season. Mother Teresa that he is, Paul helped him out a little. Forza Pennetta did not handle the pressure well, despite him laughing at the suggestion in our first recap he would have a tough time. With Salvatore out, Smokovec has to defend the Italian dream.
* Jazar barely had to break any sweat, as opponent Aussie_fan showed up at the wrong hour (wrong picks in hand). This makes him the lucky player of the day naturally. Unlucky player of the day is once again Juakos17. He forgot to send one pick and now he may have been a lucky loser, but lost a chance to redeem himself. There is still doubles left.
* The Fiberplotz gang are fresh off a Wimbledon doubles title, but when one has to cover an entire court all alone, things were not going their way. Both went out, avoiding a famous clash between the partners. Seventh seed Drake1980 handed Fiber his loss, perhaps heading to a Canadian quarter final with Dementieva_Dude.
* Best score of the day is for Starluk. The qualifier is one to watch, certainly after the Chinese domination at Wimbledon. I have a feeling Jazar will definitely have to work a little harder today in their clash.

I only checked the top half of the singles draw so far, but it looks there are no differences in picks. Set ratios will be important, so I hope everyone remembered to send them (well for the one match that was not a TB). I have not been able to check picks until now.

Differences (singles)

* Differences are given in picks, set ratios come into play when score is tied. Differences are given in set ratios for the first player listed. The situation is naturally reversed for the other player (so if a player is said to have Garbin in 2, the other player has her in 3).

Dementieva Dude - Penguinbw22

No differences

Dementieva_Dude has Suarez Navarro in 2, Pennetta in 3 and Errani in 2

Smokovec - Drake1980

No differences

Smokovec has Garbin in 3

Canuck - Fencer

No differences

Canuck has Suarez Navarro in 3 and Llagostera in 3

Andiyan - Adeegee

No differences

No differences in set ratios. Adeegee forgot a set ratio for Suarez Navarro, so if Andiyan gets it right (and the right winner naturally), he wins. Otherwise we move to TB1.

Gigi_dulko - Manu86

No differences

Gigi_dulko has Garbin in 2 and Llagostera in 2

Starluk - Jazar

Starluk, has Fedak, where Jazar has Garbin. Starluk did forget a set ratio/TB for Llagostera, but it is not relevant, since there is a difference in picks.

Jamie RS - Kielian

Jamie RS has Fedak (in 3) and LLagostera (in 2), where Kielian has Garbin (in 2) and Gajdosova (in 3).

In set ratios (should it be tied) Jamie RS has Medina in 2 and Errani in 3. Both can gain extra correct set ratios on the matches where they differ

Tennis2007 - Diego36arg

Tennis2007 has Garbin, where Diego36arg has Fedak. Diego36arg did forget a set ratio for Suarez Navarro, but it is not relevant, since there is a difference in picks.

Doubles differences:

Set ratios do not count for doubles (as opposed to singles), so TB1 is the primary method to break a tie

1987518LPF/Juakos17 - FiBeR/Hotzenplotz

No differences. FiBeR/Hotzenplotz win on TB1. Both have Errani in 3, where the other team both have her in 2.

Aussiefan/Bg017 - Fencer/Salvatore

Aussiefan and Bg017 picked Kudryvtseva and Vakulenko once each. Only difference left is one Fedak for Fencer/Salvatore, who therefore have won

Heart/Jazar - Forza Pennetta/Smokovec

Heart sent picks late, so two matches were not counted. With two points behind and only 1 point left, Forza Pennetta and Smokovec win

Canuck/Drake1980 - Diego36arg/Gigi_dulko

Only difference is that Diego36arg picked Fedak. That will decide the match

Capriati Rules/Penguinbw22 - Sd3300123/Starluk

Only difference is that Starluk picked Fedak. That will decide the match

Andiyan/Tennis2007 - Kielian/Manu86

No more differences left. Since Kielian picked Gajdosova, Andiyan and Tennis2007 have won.

Recap of day 3:

* Today was a day where many choices seemed obvious, so the devil was definitely in the detail. Set ratios were crucial at least in singles. One step wrong meant praying there was a chance to regain the lost ground, as the many perfect scores demonstrate. Making a risky pick like Gajdosova or Fedak certainly did not pay off. Safe ground was where one needed to head
* Seeds were much less in jeopardy today. Out of the four remaing seeds, three progressed. The only casualty was top seed Dementieva_Dude, who came up short in the set ratio department when facing Penguinbw22. He leaves his Canadian compatriot Drake1980 to avenge the loss.
* Seeded player Adeegee is still going strong, despite many people not believing in his chances. Even forgetting a set ratio could not stop him, as opponent Andiyan failed to take advantage by getting that set ratio wrong himself. Looks like Jess can be proud of her boy.
* Starluk had the best score of the day yesterday, but today his luck ran out. Fourth seed Jazar did not have to work too hard yesterday, as his opponent made the wrong picks, but he certainly proved he can win as well against a player who does show up. He is now the highest seed left, so bookmakers will certainly be looking his way.
* Today also demonstrated that if you keep on going you will ultimately get the good results. Jamie RS said he barely could win matches in recent times, but today a quarter final was what he achieved. Who knows what else we can see, now that he has his confidence up. Tennis2007 is warned at least. But he should also be confident with success in both singles and doubles
* Today marked the end of Italian hopes for triumph in singles at least. Smokovec lost to Drake1980. Forza Pennetta and Smokovec won their doubles and so did Salvatore alongside non-Italian partner Fencer. These teams are now to face each other. At least Italian participation in the semi finals of doubles is guaranteed.
* Wimbledon doubles champs FiBeR and Hotzenplotz kept their winning streak going. As adoring fans state things really start to sizzle when they get together. Critics counter they can get away with it, since they only have to cover half the court, which their early singles exits may confirm. Take your pick from that we would say. We will see them facing top seeds Dementieva_Dude and In the Zone in a much anticipated clash.

Recap of day 4:

* Today it was again a day were risks were not rewarded. Most people did not go to far from common ground and picks for Han, Sanchez, De Los Rios and Llagostera were few as a result (and unrewarding one might add). Only pick that would have made a difference was Chaknashvili, but nobody picked up on that one. Some gave her a set a least, so Maka was not completely unrecognised.
* Fourth seed Jazar was the highest seed left and the past tense is accurate here. He did not show up at all, leaving his opponent Gigi_dulko an easy passage to the semi final. It needs emphasizing that Gigi_dulko put in a good performance anyway.
* The other seeds did however manage to survive. Drake1980 edged a close match out against Penguinbw22, who could console himself with a doubles win alongside Capriati Rules, against Drake1980 and partner Canuck. Drake now faces fellow seed Adeegee, who still continues his stride, by defeating Canuck. Much ridiculed for being seeded at all, he silences his critics effectively. In doubles he failed to meet the mark. His one-time partner was practically begging to have his regular partner back, even if that meant less sweet talking.
* In the remaining singles quarterfinal the good run of Jamie RS came to a halt. Rising talent Tennis2007 claimed as his next victim. And also is still alive in doubles with Andiyan, although both seemed in doubt whether they actually were through, even after the matchball was struck
* In doubles it wasn't a good day for the seeds, as evidenced by the loss of Adeegee and MH0861 mentioned earlier. Top seeds Dementieva_Dude and In the Zone also did not have a field day, losing a close match to FiBeR and Hotzenplotz, the very energetic Wimbledon doubles champs. FiBeR threw a birthday party for the entire centre court crowd afterwards, so we hope he will not have too much champagne. Paul claimed to have handed the team the match as a present, although critics simply stated he was mysteriously absent on the practice courts for most of the week
* The Italians Forza Pennetta and Smokovec still can hope for home glory, even if Francesco was certainly not in a top mood today. Helped by the fact that opponent Salvatore did even worse, a fact that partner Fencer was unable to put right, the all-Italian pairing made it through anyway. In way of scores it certainly was not the best quarterfinal, as both teams would have lost to all other teams in the draw. Forza Pennetta and Smokovec are certainly going to have to raise their level tomorrow against FiBer and Hotzenplotz.

Singles differences:

* Errani - Suarez Navarro ended in retirement, so does not count anymore

Drake1980 - Adeegee

Their only difference was in the Errani - Suarez Navarro match. Since that was canceled, they have no differences (also not in SR). TB1 was Errani - Suarez Navarro. Match goes to TB2

Gigi_dulko - Tennis2007

Gigi_dulko has Pavlyuchenkova, where Tennis2007 has Koryttseva. Due to Koryttseva winning, Tennis2007 is first into the final.

Yours is 6-3 6-4, Drake has 7-6 7-6. Should Medina win, we have to take it to TB3, which is of no use, since you both had the wrong winner. Then we move to TB4, where you have that lovely 6-0 6-0 to his 6-4 6-3.

Well, should Pennetta lose, we will have to resort to the old TB method of more games. This would be TB2 (since TB1 was canceled). In that case Drake would win for giving Medina more games.

Recap of day 5:

* Another exciting day in Palermo, with only a few matches on the order of play leaving little margin for error. With one match ending in retirement, the number of matches became even less. Pennetta did what was expected, but it were the other matches where differences were made.
* In the first semi final the difference between Drake1980 and Adeegee was wiped out with the retirement, leaving us to go down all the way to TB4. Both players seemed to want to go down with a zero score, but Flavia saved their day. It was Adeegee's 6-0, 6-0 prediction that proved decisive for a place in the final. We certainly know Ruisantos is going to pee his pants laughing. Adam has the last laugh so far, but there is still one opponent left
* And that one opponent is certainly not one to be taken lightly. Tennis2007 got past Gigi_dulko with the only perfect score of the day. He was also the only one to predict a win for Koryttseva. And to top it all off he partnered Andiyan to set up a win against Capriati Rules and Penguinbw22. Again his Koryttseva pick was the key to that match. With two chances of winning the event, he is without a doubt already the most succesful player of the event.
* Tragedy struck Wimbledon champs FiBer and Hotzenplotz. FiBer appearing somewhat intoxicated after yesterday's birthday party, but nevertheless tried hard. The Italians were less than stellar yesterday with a narrow win, but they raised their level when needed. Smokovec played the decisive role with a Medina in 3. The home crowd will certainly behind them, when they take on their final challenge against the Dutchies.
