Who will be the 2002 ITF World Junior Champion ???

TheBoiledEgg
Dec 21st, 2001, 07:50 PM
I've discounted alo of the top girls who I'm pretty sure won't be playing.

Plus most champs are new players who just burst onto scene.
I'm going for Dinara Safina, just hope she plays and stays fit

Major Mover of 2002 will be Vera Douchevina , this girls total class

Svetlana is going pro already? She's only 16/17! Oh well....even though there are alot of young talent here(but you missed Lucie Safarova ) I don't think they'll challenging the likes of Gisela, Barbora, and Dinara on a yearlong basis.

TheBoiledEgg
Dec 21st, 2001, 08:26 PM
a ITF Junior Champ doesn't normally continue playing on for the whole year.

I'm sure Sveta is looking for 1 slam title.

There were quite a few other names but i couldn't consider too many.

My pick was Safina, I think she'll play enough juniors to get to #1 personally. There are some others who are possibilities, but I think if Dinara is healthy she can do it.

My personal hope is Matea or Jarmila though

I'm picking Dinara Safina too. If we see the current rankings, Dinara is the youngest in the top 20 or so. She reached 13th by just playing only in 9 events so that is pretty impressive.

If she is not plagued by injuries like this year. Next year will be hers to shine.

Go Dinara!

I voted for Strycova because she has a good ranking and alot of experience in big junior tournaments. I would have chosen Safina. But she seems to be injury prone. The ones to watch are Sharapova and Golovin. But only because they are much lower ranked than Strycova and Safina, do I pick against them ending the year ranked #1. If there were already in the top 20, I would think one of them could do it.

P.S. - Eggy, who is the girl in the photo between Dementieva and Krasnoroutskaya on the top row of photos?

P.P.S. - NejedlyKanepi, I noticed you now include photos of Olga in your posts. And what photos! Because she lacks confidence and a cocky attitude, I think it's time for her to train at Bollettieri's. Olga would be told how talented and beautiful she is. Eventually she would believe it. And that confidence would make her a better player. That's what Bollettieri and his crew have done with Maria Sharapova and Tatiana Golovin. They are very confident. And it shows in their results. I think Olga needs to train at Bollettieri's. Do you agree?

cat ..... thats my all time fav, the one and only Natasha Zvereva

Golovin and Sharapova will do great in 2002, both hopefully will be in top 10.

Vera Douchevina has got everything in her package: height, power, good serve, plus she's got a good mindset which is the main thing.

thank you very much cat! alexsydney is hosting the pictures for me on his site i still dont have permission for the photographer with these pics, and he doesnt like to share them! so he better not get mad at me

olga...

nowadays i think its difficult to be coached only by a parent. im sure he *her father* is not doing bad at all, and i really dont know whats going on as far has her development goes. i think it would probably be best to enter a large academy, in key biscayne i dont know how often/if she gets to train with other top juniors like she would in a large academy. and certainly, when you see top players on circuits, most are training/living there, leading one to believe in most player cases it would be best to do this. however, we know how head strong some of these girls can be. hey, but maybe shes happiest training with her family or whatev-a, id really really really like to see her produce some great results in grade 1 tournies other than doubles.

Eggy, does Vera Douchevina really have a good mindset? Isn't it too soon to tell?

NejedlyKanepi, why did they take your Olga Puchkova and Max Mirnyi photos down? Also, I responded to your last post on my year end most beautiful WTA top ten rankings.

thanks, please reply to my pm as well

the admins or whatev-a, dont like everyone having pics in their signatures because it slows the board down for people who dont have good connections and everything. its fair i guess. but i want olga! and max! in my signature. theres a thread in the news section or whatever forum that is, im sure youve seen it (announcements? i forgot the name)

olgas pics had to be stretch and cropped, i tried to make them appear decent. i also added light to them because when i shrunk them and did everything, they were really dark. so like the first ones all retarded, especially the first i mean. the third in yellow, its always been a wierd photo (one of those bad photos) but i thought you could see her body well yeah...

now lets get that #1 spot Vera :)

i think it will be vera!

but btw: does anybody believe that marta domachowska can get ino the top ten (juniors) next year and top 200 in pros? does she have much/enough potential?

she played well during the clay season this year but wasn't vey consistent.

TheBoiledEgg
Jul 14th, 2002, 12:06 PM
Top 10 juniors is possible
she will need to do good in the big events to gain the major points.

Top 200 should be pretty attainable .... all depends what level event she plays.
She will be 17 next Jan as well so will have 13 events from then on.

I also think it'll be Vera.

But I dream that Su-Wei stop struggling and win US Open,Grade A Osaka Mayor's Cup,Orange Bowl to reach #1 at the end of 2002 :D ;) .

My personal opinion is Dinara Safina too!! :bounce:

But i think it can be Vera.. Who knows..

If being the #1 junior in the world really matters to Vera, she will do it! :bounce: Vera Douchevina is the most impressive junior girl since Martina Himgis played the 18's in 1993!

Vera has only played the 18's for about one year. But she has destroyed the top seeds like no one else I have ever seen in the 18's!

Eggy must be Egg-static! :bounce: Afterall, he's the one who told us last year Vera was going to be outstanding. And he was right! :D

Will Vera get a maindraw Wildcard into the the 2002 Ladies Kremlin Cup? I hope so. She is with Octagon, right Eggy? And they should reward Vera with a maindraw wildcard.

It's because of Vera Douchevina that Eggy bumped this thread from last December! :)

Udachi Vera! Do it for the Federation! :bounce:

I'm sure Masha (S) will do a lot better on hard courts... She'll probably play two more tournaments in juniors: Canadian Open and US Open. If she wins US Open (where I think she IS THE favourite), I'd say she'll be #1.

2002 Pts so far (Best 6 ranks count for end of year Ranking and of those 6, three have to be Grade A and 3 Foreign events)

Barbora Strycova

Still Barbora Strycova is in the driving position, as she has won a SLAM as well as another Grade A, Vera will have to win another Grade A event or two :)

The big deciding point will be US Open plus December when it hots up as Connelly Continental Cup has big points on offer followed by Orange Bowl.

tenn_ace, Maria's agent told me that Maria is done with the juniors after the junior U.S. Open. Unless they change their minds, there is no way she can finish #1. :(

tenn_ace
Jul 16th, 2002, 04:02 PM
the cat, the Canadian Open is before the US Open and it's grade A tournament. So potentially she can add as much as 750-180=570 points which might be enough

TheBoiledEgg
Jul 16th, 2002, 04:28 PM
tenn_ace ...... the Canadian Open is a Grade 1
winner of that gains 150 pts

tenn_ace
Jul 16th, 2002, 05:02 PM
oh, i see.... still, I'm sure Maria will come back from her juniors retirement to play Orange Bowl.. it will surely happen if she close to the #1 at the end of the year.

TheBoiledEgg
Jul 16th, 2002, 05:13 PM
I'd rather she plays the Connelly Continental Cup for Russia U18's
she has more chances to gain points there as she won't be playing any other Russian girl ;)

That event is much more important than Orange Bowl, we won that in 1995, 1998,1999, 2001
runners up in 1997 (with our winning U16 team)

tenn_ace
Jul 16th, 2002, 08:05 PM
dream on, dear Eggy ;)

Maria will keep her options open and will not play for Russia until she settles with her citizenship (Russian or American)...

so Orange Bowl it is!

:p

the cat
Jul 18th, 2002, 06:13 PM
Eggy is so cute! ;) He says Maria Sharapova should play the Connolly Cup instead of the Orange Bowl because she won't have to play other Russian girls! The Russian Lynx Maria Sharapova devours Russian girls as her tennis prey! Except for one girl, of course! And that's the Russian Tigress, Vera Douchevina! ;)

tenn_ace, if Maria goes into the Orange Bowl with a chance to end the year #1, and doesn't play, I would be very frustrated! :( But her agent told me she is done with the juniors after the 2002 Junior U.S. Open. So we'll just have to live with it.

And if Maria's WTA ranking isn't high enough by January 2003 to get her inti the 2003 Australian Open qualifying, then I can't see her going to Australia.

the cat
Jul 19th, 2002, 12:18 AM
tenn_ace, Maria's agent told me that Maria wil more than likely stay a Russian citizen. And I would think that you would be pleased with that news! :D

aaron...what's wrong with Barbora???

She is very talented. She is a great thinker. Has alot of variety in her game. Her MAJOR problem is her temper. I saw her at the Open and was very impressed. She lets her temper get the best of her.
