Dinara just reached her first slam final in Paris.
She has never gone far at Wimbledon, and we will see if she can maintain her form on grass.

Ok-ish draw not the best but the way she is playing on grass I can't see anybody stopping her right now lol

Didn't know she was playing doubles with Agnes that is one very good looking doubles partnership ;)

Dina, please prove this critic wrong...
(ok i know her grass court results ain't that gd but still....there's a start for everything!!)

Dinara Safina

Date of birth: 27/04/1986 (Age: 22).

Nationality: Russian

Height: 5ft 11in

Weight: 155lbs

Plays: Right-handed

Turned professional: 2000

Current ATP singles ranking: 9

Best Wimbledon performance: 3rd Round - 2005, 2006

Grass court pedigree:

Not great. Safina has never been past the third round at Wimbledon and went out in only the second round last year to Akiko Morigami.

Her record at other grass court events is uninspiring, at best, so there is no evidence to suggest she is likely to repeat her clay-court heroics of the French Open at Wimbledon.

Wimbledon seeding: 9th

Chances of SW19 success?

Slim to none. Safina has a game that is suited to clay and hard courts and she is yet to prove she has the ability and the wherewithal to transfer this onto grass.

Her withdrawal from the warm-up event in Birmingham due to a lower back injury will not help her preparation and she will be undone by the superior grass games of players like Sharapova, Ivanovic, Jankovic and the Williams sisters.

Safina's brother, Marat Safin, famously fell out with Wimbledon organisers because he claimed the food at the All England Club is too expensive. The chances are that his sister may not be around any longer than he ever was in order to test out his theories on the cost of living in south-west London.

Prediction: Early exit

If she makes it into the second week, Safina will be doing well. Very well.

She showed her battling qualities at the French Open, when she reached the final despite being match-point down against both Maria Sharapova and Elena Dementieva.

However, we all know that the grass courts of SW19 are a far cry from the clay of Roland Garros and a similar run to the latter stages here looks beyond her.

I don't mind the draw. Not the best (that would have been Anna in the 4th) but still it is ok and IF Dinara plays well she can do something with it.

Good Luck Dinara:bounce:

Wow I know everyone's entitled to their own opinion but that journalist sounds like he doesn't like Dinara at all!

"Her record at other grass court events is uninspiring, at best, so there is no evidence to suggest she is likely to repeat her clay-court heroics of the French Open at Wimbledon."

Making the finals of Rosmalen for 2 out of the last 3 years doesn't mean something?

So Dinara's Wimbledon results aren't as good as her other slam results but she's full of confidence at the moment and confidence can get you far! She's also fitter and her movement's improved a lot.

Come on Dinara! :bounce:

...and her will is amazing. I always expected good results from Dinara on clay and figured that most could not make the transition from clay to grass, but Dinara has done quite well on grass. Critics get paid to say bad things. Pfeh.

I know I have re-watched that match 3 times on Wimbledon Live and it still breaks my heart seeing her so upset
