Aga has qualified for Beijing 2008, which obviously was just a formality

it's her first career chance to get "the eternal fame" :worship:

Do Jans/Rosolska have a shot at playing doubles?

Pszczelny

doubles qualifying is not clear at the moment

but there's no chance for Ula: her doubles rank is 172, even with Aga's singles rank, it won't be enough
Aga most probably will play doubles with Marta Domachowska, who has singles qualification, unles there'll be some strange pairing with Jans or Rosolska

ITF begins Olympic entry process

The entry process for the 2008 Olympic Tennis Event in Beijing begins this week, with the ITF notifying National Associations and National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of the players eligible for direct acceptance into the singles and doubles (top 10 only) events and sending out application forms for ITF places.

Fifty-six players will qualify as direct acceptances into both the men’s and women’s singles events. Six ITF Places will be allocated by the ITF Olympic Committee, while the two Tripartite Commission Invitation Places have already been announced.

National Associations/NOCs have until 23 June to confirm the entry of players eligible for direct acceptance and to return the application form for ITF places. At the same time, National Associations/NOCs will nominate doubles teams for the Olympic Tennis Event. The ITF will announce the full list of entries on 2 July.

Aga has a wrist injury, some joint inflammation, but father says it's not dangerous.

Does anyone know when Aga has the olympic pledge? Tennis players are scheduled on Friday, but Aga won't be able to be in Warsaw then (well, probably no tennis player will be there ). Yesterday was the main olympic pledge, but there would by any news, if Aga was there.

Maybe she will have it already in Beijing. Any thoughts?

Aga and her dad are complaining about the weather in Beijing. She says that it's very hot and the smog is really heavy. She was training at 11.30 am and they had to use electric light.

Today Aga was training with Shuai Peng and Radwanski says that her hand is much better but again he says the weather is really awful and it's killing them.

I never care about draws, doesn't matter if it's strong or weak. Aga just must play well and then we'll see. ;) But this time I wished she had an easy draw. Does she have it now? No, but obviously could be worse.

Aga must be careful against Chan, then some fight with Schiavone (if Amanmuradowa, then it should be much easier) and a tricky third round.
But if Aga plays her BEST, she can be at least in semifinal. So dawaj Aga, focus first on Chan.

In doubles no need to check what's after first round. Bondarienkos are beatable, but it will be very tough, and if Marta/Aga win, everything is possible then.

 you really think it is a hard draw ?

i think it's awesome, my only worry is her shoulder ;)

i mean Chan - aga never had problems with girls who play like that
Fran - being in a mediocre form, i think aga will have extra motivation to avenge the 2 losses :)
Vera - completely out of form, losing everything atm, i wont be surprised if she doesnt reach R16
Ana - see above (sorry Dex )

so i think SF is really makeable

I agree with spriwi. I think it looks like a great draw for Aga. As long as her injury is ok and she copes with the conditions she should be a certainty for the QFs, and unless Ivanovic improves considerably, even the SFs, and from there anything can happen! Good luck!!:)

I'm seriously worried about how she will cope with her injury and weather conditions. She lately said that her hand still hurts.
The sad news is that she will probably skip the opening ceremony. So we won't have a chance to see her marching with the rest of Polish athletes. Of course considering her preparations for the match it's a good news :)

Serena and especially Venus will have to jump over their own hoops before they face Agnieszka. I agree that our favorite will have to show new quality to go that far, too. I believe she is capable of doing it; Agnieszka is steadily improving. It may or may not be her time, I keep my fingers crossed (and thumbs squeezed) that it is. I am more worried as olivero about her arm and the fact if she will be acclimated. As Malva stated every match will be tough, starting with the first one where her opponent will be playing in front of her own crowd in conditions she grew up in. I am rooting for Agnieszka all the way

Chan is representing Taiwan. The Communist China has been in the past, and is continuing today, bitterly opposing it and bully it anywhere it can.

I am curious how the public will be reacting. I can't hardly believe their reaction is going to be spontaneous. In terms of personal freedom, the Beijing regime is still one of the hardest in the world.

You may be right, but look how us, Poles were happy with wins of Wozniak, Wozniacki or other players of Polish origin. So I am not sure how to look at it. Communist regime is one thing, people often entirely different.

For obvious reasons I hate this draw. :( But both of my girls are struggling with the injuries, so I'll be happy to see them both advancing to the QF and then may the better get to the medal stage. I'm sure these are not the last Olympics of Aga & Ana.
Anyway, I probably won't be following much of Olympics next week as I'll be abroad. :sad:Most of mainlanders hates Chan,so:drool:That's pretty sad.
And I don't see how it might have a positive effect on Aga from our point of view. I mean if I were Chan I'd do EVERYTHING possibly to piss of haters and be as successful in the dragon's den as possible.

Inne dyscypliny - Pekin 2008 - Tenis ziemny (http://www.sports.pl/artykuly/index.asp?Kategoria=Inne dyscypliny - Pekin 2008 - Tenis ziemny)

07.08.2008 | 21:23

Zajęło im to niemal dwa razy dłużej.

To coś zupełnie innego niż turnieje zawodowe.

Mimo to nas też dotyka panująca w Pekinie duchota.

Poles may have a different mentality from most other nations. Perpetually persecuted and oppressed by aggressive neighbors, scattered throughout the world by numerous misfortunes, and last but not least, distrustful of their Communist government for much of the 50 years of their rule, which many considered to be nothing but vassals of Moscow, it is easy to understand why they could hold dissident feelings.

I can assure you that in other countries I know, and some quite well, this is not the case. I trust you have read the next post after yours.

There's still Schnyder, Zvonareva, Peer... Let her win her first matches first. Then - let's think about quarterfinals, semifinals. Withdrawing from doubles could be a good strategy. She's not Serena or Venus. She won't make both singles and doubles with her injury.

I don't get it, do the two losing semi-finalists have to play each other for the bronze medal?

To all of our Polish fans: be prepared to record whatever Polish TV is going to show of Agnieszka's matches.

Spx.

Yeah, I think there are cameras only on the centre court, court 1 and court 2. We'll see...

and court 3,4,5,6... TVP have 1000 cameras there ;)

optimism >>>> reasonThere's Schiavone as well. Aga has never beaten her. I don't believe Peer will get that far, but Aga hasn't beaten Bepa nor Patty before so the SFs are far from being a gimme... Aga has to be at her best. And I repeat Chan is no pushover either.
