REPORTS
Ruutel v Esperon : Margit improved so much since the few months earlier I had seen her. She has a good game on grass definitly, better than on clay.
She's very good at the net.
Esperon isn't bad but doesn't have the skills Ruutel had and she doesn't have the right attitude neither...
Good fighting spirit from Margit, solid win.

Vinci vs Gajdosova : What a miss from Vinci, leading 5/3 40/00 final set, and being broken stupidly...Then Gajdosova started to believe again, and saved two other match points in the final set tie break and won 9/7 in the final tie break...She didn't even seem to be happy with it!
Vinci plays amazing tennis on grass, while Gajdosova just hit the ball and wait for something to happen (like always, yeah :p )
But great win for her confidence.

Fedossova vs Luzhanska : I was looking forward this match to discover an Ukrainian again, and I was very disappointed. There was no contest, and the match was poor. Tetiana was missing everything, Fedossova just had to wait for it. Fedossova won 61 62.

Klepac vs Broady : Well this is an upset, but when you see how agressive and successful Broady was
Plus, Klepac was moaning and complaining all match long, and Broady was on fire. She choked a little at some point in the second set, but won in straight! Amazing serve and the backhand of Broady is just WOW
So an upset yeah, but in terms of game today, Broady was just amazing.

Shvedova vs Pavlovic : Yarolsava won but Pavlovic globally dominated.
The Shvedova's coach is one of the most annoying, commenting every single point. The Pavlovic's mother was annoyed too
Irena has such an amazing double-handed forehand
Shvedova was saved by her abality to serve/volley very well.
Pavlovic is a :baby: mentally.

Fujiwara vs Gullickson : Horrible match full of mistakes, and Gullickson's grunt is awful. She well tried to go to the net, but she definitly shouldn't have. Fujiwara is just one of these Japaneses running everywhere and winning on her fitness and her few mistakes.

Poutchek vs Glatch : Well, Tatiana hasnt learnt playing tennis yet. But she's such a bitch. She threw her racket after having lost the first point, I love that :hearts:
She was leading comfortably then blew the second set just by herself, then was 0-2 down final set then won 6 games in a row.
Actually, her approximatives shots and mentality help her well on grass, especially the sliced forehand.
Glatch is just :help: Good serve, good backhand, but unable to play a forehand, and she just went into Poutchek's yelling & racket threwing attitude instead of playing her game.
Poutchek, after having kicked herself the leg with the racket after missing an overhead, ketp the mark of the shot she made herself on her leg all match long and seemed to suffer of it

Namigata vs Adamczak : Adamczak just played soft balls all around, and Namigata was just overpowered after one or two shots, and her serve is :o
But I was impressed by Adamczak ;)

Schultz vs Dzehalevich : Brenda has a new fan...MENG YUAN
This match wasn't good at all...It was all about who would be the biggest bitch. Basically, Dzehalevich spent all the final set on the floor, sliding on the wet grass (rain was there during a few minutes) and yelling, kicking herself...
Brenda is very good on grass of course, but missed so much at the net...She just made Dzehalevich mad, and managed to very well.

Kops-Jones vs Iijima : Raquel is very impressive, I thought she was Sequera at the beginning. She hits very powerful groundstrokes and serves well.
Iijima is very very bad indeed.

Stosur vs Pavly : Samantha won this match because it was on grass, nothing more...She was complaining all match long (Nastya even more :o ) and was saved by her strong serve and her good volleys.
Big (fat) Raymond was cheering for her.
Pavlyuchenkova plays well, but needs to learn to volley well during the WHOLE match. She was too fragile mentally. The very first games of the final set were very tight, and were actually decisive.

Kulikova vs Coin : A no-story match. Coin plays not badly, but not well neither. She just hits the ball back.
Kulikova is :o . She is this kind of blond girl that you wanna give her something to eat before she falls on the ground
She had a poor sports bag and a very old Head raquet, and was coached by a hot guy wearing a suit
I wanna see more of her tomorrow.

Rao vs Smith : Mini-Mirza was just too good for the very thin British girl.
Too nervous and too weak technicly.

Scheepers vs Jozami : Betima had never seen grass before right ?
She even tried to slide on it, it was nice...to see her falling
At the end, she made her Brie Whitehead, just hitting the ball like a 8-yr old would have done.
Chanelle :hearts: AMAZING game, very complete! So good at the net...
She's definitly my favorite so far.

MD Players : I saw training and/or walking around
Bammer, Liezel Huber, Lisicki, Paszek, Bremond, Govortsova, Yuan, Mattek, Stubbs, Cavaday, Baltacha, Krajicek, Bartoli, Rezai...

Not impressed with poor Kumiko Iijima?

In all the reports I read, no one is impressed by her.
Unfortunately, she's had a really off day everytime someone's seen her play. :o

I've seen her play on 2 occasions, and although she didn't win those matches, they were competitive. :)

Esperon isn't bad but doesn't have the skills Ruutel had and she doesn't have the right attitude neither...
Good fighting spirit from Margit, solid win.

Fujiwara vs Gullickson : Horrible match full of mistakes, and Gullickson's grunt is awful. She well tried to go to the net, but she definitly shouldn't have. Fujiwara is just one of these Japaneses running everywhere and winning on her fitness and her few mistakes.

To quote your report, I shall do my little one on the matches I saw.

Ruutel vs Esperon: I thought this was awful, Ruutel should've won something like 6-2 6-2 but was constantly making silly errors both from the baseline and net. Was a poor match and Ruutel was lucky Esperon was useless.

Klepac vs Broady: At the beginning of this match I thought it'd be the battle of the serves, for the first few games if Klepac could return Naomi's serve she'd win the point cos Naomi didn't seem to do much. But then  wow! Naomi was amazing off all flanks, and that serve is whopping!

Schultz vs Dzehalevich: From what I saw of this match it looked quite fun and entertaining with both players running all over the place. Dzehalevich I was quite impressed with as it's the first time I've seen here. Shame she played Brenda as she'd probably have beaten plenty of other players.

Stosur vs Pavlyuchenkova: I disagree on Stosur only winning because it was on grass. I did think that when Pavlyuchenkova took a medical time out after a couple of games in the 3rd it was tactical but she wasn't the same afterwards. I liked her game, but neither player seemed to be able to maintain a high level of play, which came in spurts from both players at different times.

Rao vs Smith:  what rubbish from Smith. Awful.

Scheepers vs Jozami: :o  I think Betina struggled with the low bounce, but thought she'd have done a bit better having being relatively successful in the doubles at Surbiton.....

SUNDAY:

Borwell vs Czink: Sarah started off brightly with some good serving, and really thought she'd have won this, and somehow she didn't. Was serving and hitting well, and Czink had her coach on court a couple of times when she was playing poorly. No surprise she lost to Fedossova later on.

Broady vs. Ruutel: I dunno how Noami won that 2nd set. Both players were playing really well. Ruutel was amazing, hitting the lines, and even when it seemed she wouldn't get a ball back she did. Thought after her performance against Esperon, Naomi would easily beat her, but Margit was a different player today. Naomi played similarly to how she did yesterday but just came up against a player who was too good.

Elliott vs Spears & Elliott vs Brenda

:worship: Spears was playing flawless serve and volley tennis in the first set to which Amanda had no answer for, but then after a few errors she retreated back to the baseline more. Amanda played some lovely passing shots and I was suprised she was able to win, especially after how Spears was playing in the 1st set. Spears had a medical time out in the 3rd, and after that it was all Amanda.

:worship: :worship:  Shock number 2! Again, like the Spears match, Amanda seemed to have no answer to Brenda's net play and her serve wasn't working as well as it should've in the 1st set. Brenda's errors crept up in the 2nd set, and Amanda played some lovely passing shots, and managed to lob Brenda a couple of times. Amanda got into her rhythm and in the tight 3rd set was able to get that crucial break and serve out the match with ease :D and to quote Roger Draper on the phone (Mr LTA) "Awesome! This girl is something" and then I walked off.

My AMAZING REPORTS :worship:

- Czink/Borwell : Borwell is able to serve so well, but from the baseline she sucks. She moves sooo slowly, and I'm surprised Czink didn't see that and not used dropshots.
Czink played badly too. She just won in the final set tiebreak, that Borwell just gave to her opponent with enormous mistakes.

- Broady/Ruutel : Broady is definitly an amazing player. I heard some stupid people saying "Sharapova is on the court 1". :tape:
Actually, it's true there is something in the attitude and in the serve motion.
She serves like hell and this backhand makes me love Naomi so much.
Margit is an amazing form! She is so agressive, and so motivated, what a fighting spirit. She looked very happy, and her coach is very very good guy, making laugh Margit all day long. Good girl!

- Czink/Fedossova : just saw the first set, Youlia was too strong for Czink for the baseline. When Youlia is in good form, she can hit winners from everywhere.
Czink is definitly useless

-Elliot/Spears : Spears played very well, serving and volley :hearts:
But Elliot was on fire then, and was in a very good day obviousely.
She is very powerful and has a huuuge serve

-Poutchek/Adamczak : Tatiana :hearts: She threw her racket at least 60 times. She barely choked in the second set, but Adamczak was very pityful today actually. She hit mistakes from everywhere and from every shots.
Seen from the place we watch match here in Bmgham, we can even more appreciate how random is the technic of Poutchek. The forehand is just awful, but her sliced forehand is efficient...because surprising

-Stosur/Kulikova : Kulikova received something like 2 warnings, Stosur can thank her opponent for being so mad on the court. When she lost the first set, Kulikova hit the racket like 10 times on the floor to be sure it was broken then left the court in tears.
She regrouped in the second, but Stosur played horribly all match, everything was about Regina (who hasnt eaten yet visibly since yesterday  )

-Rao/Scheepers : What a miss from Chani, she played amazing but when she has to close the match, she just cant play anymore, even if Liezel Huber was yelling "COME ON CHANI THAT'S IT" after each point...
She was crying at the end.
Rao has an amazing forehand, and a good fighting spirit.
Close win.

-Gajdosova/Kops Jones : When she plays like that, Jarmila is unplayable. She was very very confident, and the forehand was just in fire.
Raquel played smart tennis and good angles, but it was too late and Gajdosova closed the match quickly before Raquel worried her.

-Shvedova/Fujiwara : Yari was on fire too, jumping and pumping her fist. Good to see that attitude! Her serve was lovely today, and Fujiwara was just overpowered.

That's it for me, I'll go there back if it doesnt rain!

I hope you appreciated :p

The crepe van is indeed still there. I swear those crepes ARE the reason I go to Bham! The nice smoothies one of the vans were selling last year are no longer there though. :( Don't be fooled by the tent offering smoothies, their smoothies are more like slush puppies with milk. And their mango fruit drink, looks like and, indeed, tastes like pineapple. It IS a nice pineapple drink though! ;) Also, yes, Mr. Clappy is already there. He nearly spoke to me on Sunday! I escaped just in time though!
Enjoy the tennis on Sat! I wish I had time to go to the real tournament, not just quali weekend! ;)

Report of Wednesday

Pictures will come later randomly if I'm not too lazy.
I just put them all on Facebook, my name is Jean Missud, add me if you wanna see them all.
I ll post the best ones.

Cetkovska/Bartoli
Marion played porrly, especially the serve. But she deserved to win, Cetkovska is just a bad player hitting the ball back and showing off. One of the players I don't like.
Bartoli tried a lot of different things, she was lucky to win the first set though.
She was crying at the end, and her father was talking to her badly, but well he's a coach...

Bondarenko/Ruano Pascual
Alona played poorly, but Virginia played great attack, she should have won the first set and won in two sets, but Alona did fight well, even if of course she didn't stop yelling at everyone and hittig herself with her racket.
But good fight between the two girls, Alona was even smiling at the end of the match, miracle!

Czink/Govortsova
Well, not an interesting match these two girls play poor tennis, no brain at all. Czink looks like a guy frankly, and Govortsova seems to be about to cry at any moment.
Is her brother and her twins ? They are just exactly the same, but Olga with longer hair :)
Poor match, Olga missed a set point in the tie break very stupidly...
Czink's coach is unbearable :p

Wickmayer/Dellacqua
Interesting match, good rallies from both girls. Wickmayer has some amazing shots in her racket, she just let the second go but she should have won in two.
It seems Pratt is the coach of Dellacqua, right ?
I don't like Dellacqua's attitude, always looking at the floor, no emotions at all. On the other hand, she has a good piece of clever shots, that makes me feel better compared to a lot of others players here.
Wickmayer was just too good in the end, smashing winners on all the corners of the court. If she stays that strong, she'll be a good top 30 player before the end of 2008.

Nakamura/Cirstea
Cirstea is an horrible player, bal bashing from everywhere, and yelling after every single point : or she pumps her fist, or she complains loudly. Very boring girl. If she doesn't buy a good attitude, she'll do nothing and hasn't even got some power!
Nakamura is clever on the court, but is way too nice & soft to be able to reach the top, she just hits the ball back and never really attacks...But she has a good hand and she's nice at the net.

Domachowska/Pin
Typical match...Pin was on everyballs, served quite well, and on the other hand Domachowska was just (as always) trying to hit as hard as possible. She was frustrated very quickly, and lost something like 5 games in a row.
Grass could be a good surface for Pin, even if she still cant serve properly.

Shvedova/O'Brien
O'Brien has no special weapons, not a good attitude neither.
Shvedova impresses me this week, her serve is on fire and she's amazing at the net. She just let the second set going, almost choke at the end of the final set, but she should have won 63 63 instead of 75 16 75 :scared:

Rao/Cavaday
Nothing special, Naomi has some good power and a strong serve, but no tactics, while Rao is still impressive since the qualifications, and has now won 4 matches in a row. She has no power, but an amazing backhand down the line, plus she seems really motivated, and rare thing : she uses her brain. Alleluia.

Poutchek/Rodionova vs Krajicek/Niculescu
Well, Niculescu is unable to volley, but Krajicek is, and she's also able to serve. She made the win.
Niculescu is good from the baseline, that's all, she's quickly lost at the net.
Poutchek & Rodionova are...bitches in singles. And bitches x2 in doubles, it's very nice :) They look unhappy, they complain, moan, throw their rackets in the same time :hearts: I love them! :bounce:
Plus, Tatiana received a warning because she talked badly to Krajicek
Her voice is even worse than the Jankovic's voice.
At the end, Poutchek was even trying to call the ball by herself but the chair umpire asked her to stop :)

I like Sorana's attitude. It's fine to scream and yell. She doesn't smash rackets nor does she abuse ball boys or other players. It's all within herself. Cirstea does have a lot of power as well. Yet you love Poutchek and Rodionova who are 10x worse and awful to people. :ras: :p

Thanks for the reports. :hearts: :)

any report from Nicole's match? I would love to read some report of her match ;)
Well she started off very fast, Dechy was slicing everything in sight and Nicole was just hitting with a lot of power and accuracy and completely bullied her. Way too good. Second set Nathalie started clubbing her backhand more, trying to hit with spin and power and it did work and she became competitive. At 3-3 though I had a feeling it would be over in 15 minutes and it didn't even last that as Nicole broke to love, final point Nathalie went for a forehand up the left sideline and it was called in and overruled out by the umpire. I thought it was out too, Dechy was not happy at all. Thereafter Nicole held easily with big serving, then on Dechy's final service game Nicole's last two points were won with stunning return winners. She played really well, very few errors, lots of winners, hitting with power, the only person all day who looked a top player (not really saying much though).

Hope that helps, it's just rambling thoughts.

How on earth has Katie hovering around the 100 mark despite the fact that she has no weapons?! She must be doing something right
Well, from what I saw, from the warm up I thought Katie was going to get steamrollered, just from the weight of hitting, but what she ended up doing was playing completely percentage tennis, almost always cross court, her slice kept her in points and she could club the forehand quite well. What ended up happening was after Shvedova went so off in the 2nd set she ended up playing a similar game and going for less and when that happens, the better striker of the two usually wins. Katie's problem really was that despite the very feisty competitive attitude she wasn't aggressive enough, rarely took a shot on down the line and could only out hit Shvedova when she got the first strike in.

Katie is probably about a 150-ish player, she'll beat quite a few people with her dogged determination and percentage play. As it was that was almost enough here as this one was could have gone either way, but I thought Shvedova did deserve it and when she started pumping herself up the longer the final set went on, she always looked in charge.

Did anyone see Marinas match today (against Sania Mirza), any reports would be appreciated
Oh right, yes I did.

Basically, Marina came out and she was hitting loads of slices and serving very well. Sania had nothing on the forehand side and was relying on her backhand to keep her in points, but Marina kept working it around until Sania made the error. She raced out to a lead before Sania woke up but was always the more patient and consistent in the rallies. Sania's forehand was invariably long when she went for it so the longer the match went the less she did.

2nd set Marina started mixing it up a bit more - slice, slice, BIG shot - because she knew Sania wasn't going for anything really on either wing. The mixing up of pace kept Sania on the back foot and from about 3-0 down she really didn't seem interested as the damage had already been done.

All in all a very solid performance and you could tell she'd got her tactics right for the surface. Felt her way into the match, started off with the serve and slice, but added her shots as she grew in confidence.

Was at the final today and was a great match. I was supporting Yanina but am really happy for Kateryna on her first win. Although she said in her interview it was the most pain she felt, the injury didn't seem to effect Yanina's play too badly. Really disappointed that she was throwing a tantrums quite often including a big throw of her racket.

hi, I was there too today and I thought it was one of the most wonderful matches I'd seen in a very long time. I was hoping that Yanina would win too, I saw her in the SF yesterday and was really hoping she would win. I was also a bit concerned about the tantrums, especially the one where she whacked the ball against the ad board and almost hit the line judge! I suspect that Yanina's injury was as bad as she said since she was almost crying before returning after the medical time-out, possibly adrenaline kept her going during the points because the limping between points gradually got worse as the match went on.

Either player deserved to win today but well done Bonderenko for pulling it out of the hat! She could have easily have been affected psychologically by her opponent's injury misfortunes, but she kept it together extremely well. Certainly made my week watching a match like that - simply great!
