i think she is going to be a threat at top level in a few years

i watched her at surbiton last week and its going to take a hell of a lot of work to get her into the top 100.

yes, she is tall and has a big serve, but loads of players nowadays do and broady doesnt make enough of her serve; she doesnt get into the ball enough.

her backhand needs loads of work. she really needs to start playing a double hander again. her single hander is weak and a very obvious weakness that is easily attackable

Looking at the rankings I didn't realize she was storming up the charts that fast. I hope she can keep going and maintain some consistensy. She's proving that the GB girls are becoming a force!

her single handed backhand is her best shot,, apart from her serve,,,

when i saw her play, all her opponents had to do was hit the ball to her backhand and it wasnt coming back. admitedly i only saw her play one match, but a friend of mine, who was at surbiton all week working as a photographer, got to see all her matches and is of the same opinion as me

Liam Broady doing just fine without LTA

Neil Harman, Tennis Correspondent

div#related-article-links p a, div#related-article-links p a:visited {color:#06c;}There were no gushing press in attendance, no back-slapping LTA coaches court-side and no mention of it on the governing body's website. Liam Broady is 14 - the same age as Laura Robson, who won the Wimbledon girls' title in July - and he became a European champion this week, but for all the notice his victory received, he might as well have been born in another country, as Robson was.

Broady was raised not far from where Fred Perry learnt his trade and there is a streak of Northern hardness in him that was the great man's strength all those years ago. He was crowned European Masters under-14 champion in Orbetello, Italy - a title once won by Rafael Nadal, the world No1 and Wimbledon champion - having been the only British player of either sex in the event. He won it without dropping a set, including victory over Moos Sporken, the No1 seed from the Netherlands, in the first round.

Such a triumph would normally encourage a sustained period of self-congratulation at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton, southwest London, but Broady does not train there; indeed, by dint of the dismay felt by Simon, his father, at the LTA coaching set-up and the personnel running it, the family do not receive a penny of funding. The trip to Italy and every journey the teenager takes to compete can be afforded only because the Broadys recently sold their house in Greater Manchester and survive on the equity.

It is a desperate state of affairs and one that goes to the heart of the controlling influence the LTA demands over each and every player of genuine talent. Broady Sr will not accept it, he sees no likelihood of a compromise and so he is out there on his own, hoping that someone might be tempted to back his son's potential. And not only is Broady Jr one of Britain's finer prospects, his sister, Naomi, 18, has improved her ranking by more than 200 places this year to become the twelfth best player in Britain. Naomi is in Australia - where Robson was born and raised - only because her father paid for the trip.

Robson has clothing and racket contracts, a coach, an agent, the run of Roehampton when she wants it and the federation eating out of her hands. Only Liam's rackets are paid for and that deal is up. “The LTA wanted us to fall into line and we won't,” Broady Sr said. “They have made life so awkward for us that I had no alternative but to cut ties with them. I speak to a lot of people in this area who don't even know Liam plays tennis and when I tell them our situation their answer is always the same - that our face and accent don't fit.”

Don't know why the LTA are so up themselves about Robson anyway, from what I know they had very little with her development and so, just reaping the rewards. Nice article, thanks for posting :)

She has drawn fourth seed Julia Cohen from Miami, Florida, who has a ranking of 208, her career highest. Naomi won 6-3, 6-3 against her in Puebla in November. It should be an interesting match.

December 2009 - Naomi Broady
-By Nick Fishpool

Naomi Broady

http://www.itftennis.com/shared/medialibrary/image/staticarticle/IO_46464_staticarticle.JPG

Great British rising star Naomi Broady, 19, is our featured player for December. During this month, Broady competed in two hard court tournaments in La Habana on the Caribbean island of Cuba.

In the first of the two tournaments in Cuba’s capital city, Broady was seeded No. 1 and came into the tournament on the back of a successful end to November at an ITF Women’s $25,000 tournament in Puebla, Mexico where she won the singles title without dropping a set. The opening round saw Broady ease past Canadian Wild Card entrant, Dredi-Inia Ghinda, dropping just one game in each set. Her second round opponent, Margarita-Greta Skripnik from Israel fared only slightly better than Ghinda as Broady moved comfortably into the Quarterfinal with a 61 62 win. Things got a little tougher in the opening set of her Quarterfinal clash with Austrian Lisa Summerer, with Broady taking the set 64. From here she was to lose no more than two games in a set for the remainder of the tournament.

Following her 64 62 Quarterfinal triumph, Broady faced seeded opposition for the first time in the tournament in Germany’s Karolina Nowak, who was seeded fifth. Continuing as she had done in the early stages of this $10,000 tournament, Broady dominated and soon notched up a 62 62 win which took her into her fourth singles final of 2009. The final, against sixth seeded Russian Yana Koroleva, saw Broady claim her third career singles title, and second in successive weeks, with an impressive 62 60 victory.

Staying in La Habana for another $10,000 ITF Pro Circuit tournament, Broady was again named as the top seed. In the first round she came up against fellow Brit Jennifer Allan, who had come through the qualifying event. Another straight forward win looked on the cards when Broady raced through the opening set with the loss of just one game but in the second set, Allan pushed Broady all the way and eventually a tie break was required which was narrowly won by Broady 7-5. The second round match against Janina Toljan from Austria featured two contrasting sets just as in the first round and again it was Broady who emerged the victor, this time 62 75. Colombia’s Paula-Catalina Robles-Garcia was then seen off 62 61 in the Quarterfinal to set up a Semi Final with the No. 3 seed, Zuzana Linhova from the Czech Republic. The first set was closely fought by the two players and it was Linhova who took it 64, this was the first set dropped by Broady since her return to the ITF Pro Circuit in Puebla last month. In the now unfamiliar position of being a set down, Broady hit back immediately in spectacular fashion and levelled the match without loss of a game in the second set. Broady then wrapped up victory in the deciding set to win through to a third consecutive singles final 46 60 64. Standing in her way of a hat trick of consecutive singles titles was Italian No. 5 seed Valentine Confalonieri. This final, like last week, proved to be a rather one-sided affair as Broady cruised to victory in straight sets, 62 62.

This win, not only gave Broady her fourth singles title from five career finals, all in 2009, but also gave her a new record of consecutive wins for a female British player on the ITF Pro Circuit. Including matches played en-route to the Puebla title at the end of November, Broady has now won fifteen consecutive matches, surpassing the previous best of fourteen set by Anne Keothavong between March and April 2005.

Broady was also given more cause for celebration with the release of the WTA World Rankings on December 28th 2009 which showed she had climbed to a career high singles ranking of 298.

To find out if Naomi Broady can extend her match win streak in 2010 follow her progress on the MCTA Group website.

This was on the ITF website, only one set lost in two tournaments, she played well :yeah:.
