Here in the States, American Coco Vandeweghe is telling everyone she has been given a qualifying wildcard. Can't imagine that since she has never even won a US national or junior ITF tournament at any level. She even had to have special dispensation just to get on Wimby juniors qualifying list!

I saw her play in doubles qualifying last year and I was very much impressed with her. She is really quite talented

Miami tourn has nothing or very little to do with USTA though.

Last year didn't they give out a MD WC for junior champion and a qualies WC for the runner up ?

That would mean Ula in MD and Madi in qualies this year

I would have thought these were certain:

1-4. Brits in top 250 - O'Brien, Baltacha, South, Cavaday
5. Wimbledon junior champion 2007 - Urszula Radwanska

That leaves 6-8. Sam Stosur must have a good chance; other players whom I can see asking for WCs are Sprem, Dokic and Stevenson, though the latter two are much more likely to get a QWC IMO. Carla Suarez Navarro is probably the most deserving as she is will be in the top 50 after RG.
Other Brits could get one - Fitzpatrick and Elliott prob head the list, Borwell more likely to get a QWC as she is in her late 20s, others in line for a QWC - Stoop, Curtis and maybe Naomi Broady, who has just had some good wins to qualify for Surbiton.

Suarez Navarro is not deserving, as she has no record on grass

They didn't gave one to Marrero in the exact same situation (coming from qualies to RG QF), so I also doubt they'll give one to Carla, and has Martijn says, she has totally no record on grass...

with the bits playing so well just now will be tough for foreigners to get all the spots they nomally get.

dokic is more likely than stosur to get one IMO

Yes, I probably agree...although Stosur would be very capable of holding her own...
And I disagree, the Brits aren't playing that well...good on Keothavong for making the top 100 and the Surbiton QF, but the rest of the 'top' British girls fell in the second round in straight sets...
O'Brien, South, Baltacha, Cavaday and maybe Stoop will get MD WC's, but I doubt anyone else would

It's the only slam giving wc's to foreigners outside the exhcange programs between the slams, so the answer is definitely yes...

hmm, you might be right, but the only reason will probably be because they're out of girls ranked between 150 and 500;)

thats cos unlike the other 3 slams, the nations governing body doesnt own Wimbledon

AUS Open- Tennis Australia
Roland Garros- FFT
US Open - USTA
Wimbledon All England Club which is a private club. (LTA is the governing body in the UK)

The Brits actually have some in form players at the moment...Keothavong (who gets in direct), O'Brien, South, Baltacha, Cavaday, Elliot and Broady...

Why would the All England Club waste a wildcard on a has been like Brenda :spit:

Just watching an interview on BBC TV with Roger Draper, head of LTA and 6 wild cards announced:

1 O'Brien
2 Baltacha
3 South
4 Cavaday
5 U Radwanska
6 Carla Suarez Navarro

Looks like the other two will go to foreign players as he says that the rule on not giving WCs to Brits outside top 250 will be kept to.

Presumably Elliott, Stoop, Fitzpatrick and Borwell will get QWCs.

Would you rather see Amanda go out in the opening round of the MD if she drew a top 50 player, or go up against someone ranked around 160 or so and have a pretty good shot at beating them?

From An Article posted in the Australian Press

"Stosur, meanwhile, is "still hopeful" of being granted a Wimbledon singles wildcard, according to her manager, Phil Harte. Unable to use her protected ranking in grand slams, Stosur was overlooked for the first batch of invitations, announced yesterday.
Molik received a wildcard in 2006, soon after her return from vestibular neuronitis, but will this year need to qualify. Joining her at Roehampton next week will be Jelena Dokic."

Looks Like Dokic has been guaranteed a Qualifying WC perhaps???
