so Aga won Istanbul, now it's time for her to rock in Paris

after this spectacular match against elena, i really started believing she can do some damage on clay too.

so beware alize ;)

ok, ok i will take it match by match

just hope she can take a good rest and stay motivated enough (i think a lot of motivation comes from the fact that RG is the only slam @ which she didnt win a match...)

vamos aga !!! :yeah:

May 24th, 2008, 02:45 PM
oh, i got one more proposal: how about making some bets on how deep will aga get in the tourney? i give good reps to all who forsee it properly ;) :D

i'd bet on 4th round :)

Jankovic seems out of touch :p We'll see about Alize :hearts:
But I can see Aga in the 3rd round this year

Unless Aga does something stupid first 2 opponents shouldn't pose too much of a threat. Then Alize, which will be a good challenge. Good luck Aga! :yeah:

May 24th, 2008, 04:40 PM
I'm going further I say QF for Aga, Jankovic is good but some people are overestimating her abilities

In 2007 Jankovic only beat two top 10 players on clay (Kuznetsova and Vaidisova)

In 2008 Jankovic only beat one top 10 player on clay (V. Williams)

Only 3 top 10 players in 2 years on clay Jankovic is not the threat she's made out to be.

Wow, I was really surprised she beat Dementieva, and with such a result|!! Well done Aga :worship:
Btw, does anyone has that match and willing to upload???

So in RG, I really hope Aga is not too tired and keep up the good momentum. If she does, I really think she can reach to round 3 or 4.
If she reaches to round 3 againt Alize so it should be a hell of a match! I'll root for Aga, but it'll be very though.. Cornet is on great form as we know, and she's not scared of anyone, maybe not even from the French crowd like Mauresmo is.. So it even Aga vs Cornet and the crowd.
I think that if Aga will play well, of course she can win, but I still think that if she'll win, it'll be in 3 sets. After all those matches in Istanbul and RG, it's hard for me to see her keeping up with Jelena if she'll be tired.
Anyway best of luck in RG Aga! Do your best! :hearts:

Oh and btw, I don't think Jelena is overrated on clay, I do agree that there is a HUGE hype about her in GM, and non of the threads was started by her real fans (I mean, not those who post in her forum), but I think she is very good.. Last year she lost on clay to Henin, Henin and... Henin (Yes, in Warsaw, Berlin and RG) and that's it basiclly. She beat Kuzzy and Vaidisova but they were in really good form in the previous clay season so they were great wins actually.
This year, she lost to Dementieva, I saw most of the match (Until 2 all in the 3rd, thanks to ES..) and she wasn't playing well, to many UE'S.. but losing to Dementieva is no shame at all. She beat Venus which is always good win, and it's not her fault that Cornet upset Kuzzy and Serena gave to Alize a W/O and Sharapova has retied too..

alize won today 7-5 6-4. i saw two games and basically she does nothing more than push the ball to the other side of the net with a lot of topspin, something like cibulkova style.
if aga plays good without making too many ues, she can beat her easily. i hope ;)

AndreConrad
May 25th, 2008, 06:54 PM
Well every game will be a challenge; the beginning because she just came from Istanbul where playing in the finals caused a lot of mental tension from which she is relaxing right now. I am not sure if she will be able to refocus that quickly (I hope so) and then starting with Cornet there will not be an easy opponent. On the other hand bet is a bet and it is no fun without a risk, so I say Agnieszka reaches semi-finals and then who knows Ana or Serena beware ;)

aga leads 5-4 deuce after awful play by her ukrainian oponent: 3 winners & 17 unforced errors :help:

(aga held 2 s.p. @ 5-2 but didnt convert, then lost her own service game to 15  than she wasted 1 more s.p.@5-4)

aga's stats are not good neither: 3/9 :tape:

anyways, not that style mattered ;) winning points is essential :D

I hope Agnieszka will not take Jelena Pandžić too lightly despite her lowly ranking. Jelena may be actually playing better tennis than her ranking may indicate. Her life story is an instructive tale how to overcome adversities.

I know her for 10 years. She came to our local club in Leverkusen and wanted to train here. Her family had no money so my club offered her dad a job. He does the courts for more than 10 years now. Jelena was a promising Junior and Bollitieri once said she will be top10 but then she had a bad car crash in Croatia, I think. She suffered serious cut injuries and stopped playing for a while. A couple of years ago she went to the U.S. to play college tennis and study analytic psychology. She was winning every match and last year at the age of 24 she decided to give it a try at some challengers.
Well and then the rise began

Yesterday I saw her dad doing the courts at my club. Seems like he takes his job serious and refused to watch her daughter play at RG. I watched today's match. She's there with a women in the 40ies, could be her mother but I never heard anything of her mother before.

I saw her play at the challenger in Ashland last year and she put on an amazing display of tennis. She was down 3-1 in the first set to Alexa Glatch and then won eleven games in a row, literally hitting at least two winners every single game. It was pretty apparent then that she wouldn't be in the challengers for much longer and I'm glad she's making the most of her talent.

Iceland
May 27th, 2008, 08:23 PM
Aga will deal with Pandzic, no problems with this. She can't do much thing on a clay court, if Aga serves well & keeps on playing an aggressive tennis, it will be fine. She will just have to construct well her points & be patient because Pandzic defends quite well with her BH. I don't know her well, I just saw a couple of games against Brémond but she doesn't seem any better than Koryttseva.
Cmon!

I have to say I hate her father more and more... now he's crying that Aga has to play 2 matches (singles + doubles) in the same day, whilst Alize played doubles already yesterday. I mean WTF? first of all it's normal... same players have even 3 matches one day (singles, doubles & mixed), 2nd of all Alize had to play 2 matches yesterday... one can say she had less time to recover before the singles 3rd round. Talk about double standards.

Well done Aga on holding on all the time, there were some spectacular rallies, both girls are immensely talented and bring really something to the tour.
Aga just showed more experience when it mattered. I'm glad she tried to be aggressive as much as she could. She will need to take out Jankovic, but I really believe in her chances. Aga is finally back on her high form, I hope she keeps doing well here, I think the crowd will like her. There were many Poles encourageing her, it was one of the best matches of the tournament :).

Aga going for too much too early in the rallies hence the UEs... She needs to be more patient.

Dexter

come on, maybe it's a chance for aga to get some time to think and change the strategy

lets hope it will bring the shift in the momentum

JJ does it for no reason. She's been taking breaks at random moments in Berlin & Rome. Just retire if you don't want to play and get the proper treatment OFF the court.

spriwi
Jun 1st, 2008, 11:28 AM
they are back on court. first point after the break for aga :D

come on aga :rocker2:, you can make it  ;)

THE DRAW IS SO OPEN, it may be an ultimate chance to reach RG SF ...

:secret: maybe jj will retire (however unlikely :p) is it aga's only hope? ;)

Dexter

*1-3... Aga is not playing like a player who is about to break to the top10.

Dexter

where are the dropshots aga ???!?!

She needs the right ball to make one. Jelena doesn't give her any. She only retrieves.
