Good wins for Tatiana and Maria. Tough loss for Olga. And Nina, what has happened to her? I know Strycova is a good player, but for Nina to only take 2 games from her is shocking. Nina was playing well in the spring, and she did pretty well in the junior French Open and Junior Wimbledon. But since then, she has been getting beaten much too easily. Tennis is a game of confidence. And Nina has none. I hope Tatiana and Maria continue to play well.

P.S. - Instead of playing on the undercard of an exhibition match in Denver between Monica Seles and Anna Kournikova, Maria Sharapova should be taking the field apart at the Eddie Herr tournament in Bradenton, Florida. Which is, by the way, played at the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy. That's where Maria has trained and lived for the past 7 years. Maria would have had the home court advantage if she had played the Eddie Herr. I only hope Maria's handlers know what they're doing with her. Udachi Maria! Wherever you are!

P.S. - I'm also dissapointed Ashley Harkleroad isn't playing the Eddie Herr.

Eggy, am I imagining things, or do the Russian born girls based in Florida, have an easier time playing in America, than those Russian girls who live and train in Russia? Is it the comfort level? Or the talent level?

We've not sent our best U18 players here , they are in US now but practising for next week's Connelly Cup

Anna Bastrikova , Svetlana Kuznetsova , Vera Zvonareva , Dinara Safina (ALT)

Florida girls are used to playing here on hard courts ( you got to remember the Russian girls playing U18 here are all 14-15)

of course, I'm....

in fact I think there is no reason to continue this tournament....

all the matches should be stopped and the girls should be sent home. Husaru should be disqualified and banned from the tour.

Romania should be sanctioned and no trade should be allowed with this country...
\

huh

NejedlyKanepi
Nov 29th, 2001, 03:04 AM
im thinking yes to everything but stopping romanian trade and shutting the country down.

the tournament is not longer of any notable value no matter what anyone says.

had the loss came on different terms, yes, it would be a nice tournament...but no

had olga entered doubles, yes it could continue.

let it be known without a doubt olga would have won doubles granted she chose an as skilled partner as herself (ie nicole pitts or other)

and im still not over it

Well, i have no doubt Olga Puchkova would have get double baggeled if she would have played Maria Kirilenko.

IMO Olga may beat Eva (so will Maria Kirilenko do in the next round) rather than beating Maria Kirilenko.

PS.- NejedlyKanepi, Olga will never be the class of Kustova, or Tatiana Golovin or any of the Top Russian Juniors(maybe only in doubles).

if youd like to me defend olga, i will later. id like to point out to you people that she is 14, and she has barely turned 14. shes produced the goods in the past and will likely produce them in the future. in my opinion she is a good prospect.

i suppose you are the type of peopel who give no credit to those who arent in the top 5?

olga is NOT russian, shes belarussian. they are two different nations, two different nationalities. please, dont confuse the two.

as such a tall 14 year old, she probably has some growing into her body, look at elena bovina. shes 18 and still has to do this... simply put some players bloom later than others, and at 14 does olga need all your guys' shit to put up with? i think not.

shes not a bitch like maria s. as far as i know (bitch opinion based upon comments made about anna and others....and also olgas demeanor is based upon reports i have recieved by acquantinces who report she is quiet and shy) and with looks like her she could easily be the next big bitch or something.

and so on and so on....

now if you dont support olga, as has been previously stated http://www.freakygamers.com/smilies/s/contrib/ruinkai/FIREdevil.gif i will not be joining you

furthermore, if you dont support olgahttp://www.freakygamers.com/smilies/s/otn/mfinger/2up.gif

It's a shame Tatiana let that match slip away against Eva, the junior #1. But people, Tatiana at age 13, nearly beat the mature 17 year old #1 ranked junior girl. All things considered, Tatiana's peformance was tremendous. And don't discount the tremendous age difference between the two. That's a major factor. Especially in the juniors.

P.S. - It's also a good sign that Maria Kirilenko gave Eva a tough match. This was Maria's first major junior tournament. And she did just fine. Especially when you consider that she was giving away about 2 and a 1/2 years in age, and probably 35 to 40 pounds in weight to Eva, the #1 ranked junior girl. Masha's new years resolution should be to get some meat on those skinny bones of hers!

P.P.S. - NejedlyKanepi, why do you continue to talk bad about Maria Sharapova, by using foul language? It sounds terrible! And who is Hirasu?

Please remember that the Eddie Herr tournament has a watered down field. No Kaia, Svetlana and Ashley, among others. Ugh. The score is now reversed on the Eddie Herr website. Baker lost!

I think Baker will be a better pro because she has more upside due to her size. Her results have been very good when she hasn't been hurt. A lot of it is speculation. I have seen Harkleroad play, but not Baker. Harkleroad has a frail build and she may never be able to hang with top 20 players.
