Queensland State Tennis Centre

Seeing as the QLD State Tennis Centre is due for completion later in the year, I thought I would start a thread for it, as it is the biggest development since the construction of the Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre.

When completed, the centre will have:
- 22 international standard tennis courts (16 hardcourts, 4 claycourts and 2 grasscourts)
- A 5500 seat covered Centre Court
- Administrative facilities for Tennis QLD
- Cafes, restaurants, pro shop
- A new ferry terminal
- 390 apartments in the 'Tennyson Reach' development

All in all, the centre has cost $80 million to construct.

It's a good thing those buildings are there or else it would be crazy windy. There's a place I go play at every year right on a lake and it's probably my least favorite facility because of all the wind.

Inside looks interesting, don't know in a good way or a bad way, looks very closed in, could make for an interesting atmosphere

How far is it from the CBD? :confused:

It is about 15 minutes from UQ to City by CityCat, so it would probably take 20/25 minutes to get to Tennis Centre from CBD...

CityCat would be fastest option

Both - it's gonna be a combined one. No more Gold Coast for the women, or Adelaide for the men - they are both Brisbane (not that far to move the ladies tourney). ;)

With that no. of courts I assume the Brisbane tourney will be 128-MD??

Mens & womens tourney together in the same week, PLUS they actually plan to use it for the rest of the year too you know. It's not just for one week a year - more courts = (hopefully for them) more people playing at any one time. ;)

It (as far as I know) will be the biggest tennis centre in Queensland.
Currently UQ Tennis Centre is the biggest with 21 tennis courts (15 hard, 4 rebound ace, 2 synthetic grass) ...

There were also proposals for a 10 court centre in the Northern Suburbs, Brisbane has lost over 200 tennis courts over the last decade due to rising land prices...
