Vera wouldn't shake her hand after they played in Moscow last year. She was upset with Dinara's shouting during the match.

Russian seems like a language that would have delightful cursewords.

I hope Szavay wins or Azarenka.

I mean what do you expect from a player who has ugly groundstrokes, an atypical tennis body, and a face that previously looked like it should be on a ProActiv commercial, a clean mouth?

That's like expecting Lindsay Davenport not to say fuck 10 times a match.

Safina has excellent skin!

Now she does. That wasn't the case a few years ago in Australia.

Yeah a few Russians do say "Go fuck your mother" must be a common insult there:shrug: I guess it's like saying "Wanker" or "Dickhead" in Australia.

off topic : Why doesn't she get a better outfit and cover her tummy up? :help: It certainly does not look good and horrible.

It's pretty much a direct equivalent of the English "motherfucker". Not as direct translation, but the usage is pretty much the same. When things go wrong, and you are upset you might just say "Mother-F***er!!" without really meaning it literally or toward anyone. Same thing with Russians. They will say "yob tvoyu mat" as a general curse word.

We'll in Serbian people say Jebem ti mater, which means I f*ck your mother:lol: and also Jebi si mater, which means F*ck your mother:D Oh and also Pizda ti materina, and I can't translate that really, maybe your mother is a c*nt or something:rolls:
So it's pretty similar, it is something like motherf*cker, I guess:rolls:

That's closer, but there are still nuances.
It's correct that it is used now in the sense of "motherf***er!" or just "damn it!"
Original form of this phrase in in past tense, not in imperative mood. So translation like " go f**ck your .." is incorrect.
It actually means " I was in close relations with your mother" :D
The origin of this curse is very old and some hypothesize that it is relic of that time when the child could be fathered by a group of men, and in some cases the older man could tell to the younger one in conflict situation:"I actually could be your father". :)

Actually, it is quite complicated and the meaning of this phrase depend very much on situation. If it is said to no one, just to yourself it is a sign of deep frustration. And it is the case with Dinara.
When it is clearly addressed to someone in his face, it can be an insult.
In some cases the people can say it jokingly, it doesn't mean anything then.

That's the way it is with almost all insult phases, At least in english insult phases anyway

I always wonder what foreign players say. Particularly the russians nad serbians. As I can usually understand the french and spanish players.

They can get away with it though as the umpire doesn't understand either:devil:

yes, anyway "Yob tvoyu mat'" doesn't direct to anyone... so it's like parenthetical construction that conveys only emotions.... so do many Russian players, more or less... and non-Russians as well :)
