I think both Serena and Nadal currently have the most momentum, even with their recent loses, but when you throw Justine and Federer in to the mix it gets a little harder to predict. Personally, any of the first three combinations is more likely than the last choice ( "a pair made up of someone not listed"). Both Nadal and Serena are my two favorites so I'm hoping they both win, but since I purposely didn't put them together in the poll it makes it hard for me to chose.
Two Serbs have made slam finals together this year at Oz, but they've both never won the same slam before.
Federer and Serena have won a few slams at the same time, but they've never won the French together.
Nadal and Justine have won RG together for three straight years. Nadal has a better chance of making it four in a row, but it's dangerous to can't count Juju out. I just have a strong feeling this pair wont repeat.

I don't agree.
Nadal is still looking the strongest of the men, and his Rome defeat may be a blessing in disguise as he would have been too exhausted if he had won all the lead up events.
Federer has not been able to capitalise and win Rome and continues to look the most vulnerable since 2003. I think he will lose in a quarter or something.
More likely than Federer in my opinion is a new contender. Rome's new champion will be in the mix. Davydenko is looking better this year and so it could be his year to at least make a final.
On the women's side, with Justine in turmoil, I think that the Roland Garros title is totally open.
Justine is a mess at the moment and I doubt she will defend her title, but it is possible. Really needs to win Rome and hopefully beat someone like Serena in a long match en route so she gets mentally on top again.
Serena is of course looking the best since 2002-3 this year but still doesn't convince me on clay. She has only won one clay title in 5 years and has only been beyond the quarters three times in her last 12 clay events.
Maria - won Amelia Island over easy opposition. I just don't think she can win Roland Garros unless all the main contenders lose early.
JJ - also in poor form on clay, not convinced she can challenge.
Kuznetsova - ditto, also hopeless record in finals. Really needs to win Rome to be taken seriously as a contender.
Ivanovic - on paper, she is now the favourite to win Berlin, if she does then she will have the clear psychological advantage going into Rome.
It could be the year for a new Myskina - Dementieva, Safina and Zvonareva should all be confident and why not if the others are all at sixes and sevens!

^So what exactly are you disagreeing with because I agree with you 100%?
I'm only asking which combo of the above listed would you put money on to win this years French. With both Nadal and Serena looking like the early favorites I didn't want to put them together. So you have to chose between a combo that has a strong favorite and a player in doubt. With the serbs they're the wild cards so you never know with them.

Something like Ferrer and Zvonareva is not impossible when you think about it. I would love to see that :)

Nadal & Ivanovic.

Rafito will not lose sets this year. Against Mosquito Ferrero was a clear tank job

Yah know, even though Justine lost and isn't her best, when she gets to RG, she's usually a different person, it's like Venus is at Wimbledon, I still feel somehow for me at least, she is still the favorite until she loses at Roland Garros. This is also the first red claycourt tournament, so I can't say I have another favorite until after Rome, I don't base it on Charleston and Amelie Island.

Serena and Nole
Serena and Radek :hearts:

Is Venus Williams definitely out of RG?
Amongst all this Serenamania, she has been quite forgotten, but the fact is that she has won twice as many clay court events as her sister in her career so really deserves her first RG far more than Serena deserves a second in my view. The fact that she has been ignored may mean that she could slip under the radar.
Ditto Mauresmo. A very accomplished record on clay outside RG, perhaps her dismal record at the Porte d'Auteuil may work in her favour as there will be no pressure this year. Or is it too late for Amelie to win anything of note?

Nadal (blisters accounted for)
The famoooseee asses to take the titles lol.

I can't believe so many people have chose the last option. You guys do realize that by picking the last option you're saying that you don't think Serena, Nadal, Justine, Federer, Ivanovic, Jankovic, or Djokovic will be the winner??
A pair made up of none of the people listed above- means no one listed, not only as the pair, but you're saying they wouldn't win even with another person. AMAZING!!! If you're right then that would mean would would be having two brand new champions this year.
May 11th, 2008, 11:22 PM
I'd say Serena and Nadal. I'd love that but not as much as I'd love Venus and Nadal.
May 11th, 2008, 11:24 PM
Nadal and someone else prolly  hopefulyl Juju can be fine til then

My heart says Venus and the Djoker, but my head says Henin and Nadal. Until proven otherwise on the court, Henin and Nadal are co-owners of Court Philippe Chatrier.

People voting for the Joker :D :spit:
I think Pics Ferrer is a more dangerous rival for Nadal in RG than the Joker
May 12th, 2008, 03:14 AM
I think Federer or Nadal would whip Djokovic on clay. Both have too much riding on this.
That said, I'm going with Nadal/Henin for the same reasons as darrinbaker00 explained. For the same reason, I'd pick Venus and Federer at Wimbledon even if both were playing terribly.

Serena Williams and Rafael Nadal.
