View Full Version : What Was Your Favorite Women's Clay Match?

May 9th, 2008, 01:09 AM
My favorite was definitely watching Jennifer Capriati battle Kim Clijsters for the Roland Garros title! So much drama, that third set, with Kim and Jennifer continually getting closer and closer to winning, but Jennifer gutting it out 12/10.

Watching that match, sometimes clay brings out the worst tennis, but the highest drama, so I ask you...what was your favorite women's clay match, and it doesn't have to be defined by winners, quality, or drama...simply your favorite.

Graf vs. Seles in 1992 was the best :yeah:

Venus vs. Henin at Amelia Island in 2002 was incredible - Venus was so far down in that match and still won it

Venus vs. Jankovic 2007 Charleston - that was an amazingly high quality match; lots of long rallies and good points

Graf vs. Hingis Roland Garros 1999 - it was so great to see arguably the best women's player of all time win one more Grand Slam

I like several Evert/Navratilova clay battles from the classicist part of me.

The best match I've ever seen Elena play on clay was probably when she either beat Davenport in the Amelia Island final or when she beat Mauresmo in the '05 Fed Cup final. Oh, and when she beat Schnyder in the Charleston semifinals in '05 too. Tough call between those three.

I hate saying this so soon, but Radwanska/Domachowska at Charleston this year was one of the best matches I've seen period, let alone on clay, so that one too.

I feel like I should say some more Schnyder matches, but I haven't seen enough. :(

Most of the Henin matches exept 2005 and 2008
I really like to watch Hnein-Jankovic from Berlin 1007 bcause of the big comeback.
I also liked Jelena-Venus from Charlston 2007 and RG 2007.
