I like those odds!

I do think she is now the favourite. Previous to today I thought she and Henin were on an equal footing. Still all that can change and though I do think Serena is the favourite the field is quite open.

If she meets them in the QF, I agree that either player could beat her but after that I would give Serena healthy odds on beating them. If she were to meet either in the final I would almost expect Serena to win.

I would HATE it if she somehow reaches the final only to lose to JJ or someone... It's possible! Dont jinx!

:haha::haha: at this thread.
I seem to remember GoDom making a thread very similar to this about Serena not winning AO '07. I see someone's trying to do a reversal jinx ..like somehow if you make this thread about Serena winning she'll lose the FO. :tape::help: for you.

umm.. as for FO contenders I say wait until Berlin and Rome are over. What if Serena loses to Dinara Safina tomorrow??? will she still have a 1 in 250,000 chance of not winning RG. Yeah i didn't think so. Justine might come back and kill everyone in Rome or maybe Ivanovic will go on a tear. Or maybe Safina will crush everyone from Berlin to Rome to RG let these next two weeks play out b4 people start saying who's teh favorite going in to RG.

She has a pretty good chance of winning, but there are definitly players that could beat her, such as JJ,Zvonareva,Justine, or Kuzzy, unless it's the final, serena beats anyone there.

and the classic quote from a poster on cnn "..... (some regular name) has more chance to win the french open then Serena Williams and (before Rome) "she will never win a tournament on clay", She will never beat Capriati on clay",
Everytime when Serena achieved something those months he came up with something new that would be impossible for her and everytime she achieved right after. It was hilarious :haha:
It was lots of fun (till the cnn board went down during the french)

Well, Yeah Mary Jo was saying at the beginning of the claycourt season how Serena would need at least another year to establish herself on clay and that she wasn't ready.

Then, in Rome that year, Mary Jo was saying how Serena could take anyone on clay now. Classic moment.

We all know that Serena won't win Roland Garros... again. Venus has proved to be the second best clay courter in the world and she will prove it at RG this year.
She moves like a Gazelle, and if she is healthy and playing well god knows she wins.

 Haven't we all learned that we have to take Serena match by match. Injuries can happen at any time. There are a number of players who can beat Serena on clay. Yes, she's playing very well right now but lets not get too far ahead of ourselves. The French Open is not here yet and many things can happen between now and then.

But she is playing some beautiful, focused, and consistent tennis right now.

I know this is all premature, but if Serena wins Roland Garros, she'll (once again) be in elite company, joining Margaret Court, Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, and Steffi Graf as the only players to have ever won each Grand Slam at least twice

Great fantasy idea and keep it going. Hopefully her odds will shorten so those of us sensible enough to bet against her winning will clean up. I do think that Serena could win, but like in 2002, it will clearly be because the main clay exponents are injured, in lousy form or choke, because Serena is not at all a natural on the surface as her inability to win any clay event other than in 2002 and 2008 testifies. If Serena does, then Kuznetsova, Ivanovic, Jankovic and Henin should do the honourable thing and fall on their swords because they are ten times better than her on this surface.

Ok you're either a troll or terminally stupid but whatever...

Serena has the best winning percentage at RG of any active player except Justine, she hasn't done worse than the QFs this century and on Sunday she will officially become, far and away, the most decorated player on clay bar Justine.

But if you insist then that that fat ballbasher has no chance...then so be it

You are clearly the troll as you are unable to accept that someone else can have a different opinion and just resort to insults and abuse when you can't win the argument.

If you had read what I had written instead of putting a knee jerk response, I did not say that Serena had no chance, I just said that in my opinion, there are a number of players who are more naturally gifted on the surface, which is to be expected as they were brought up on it and it is alien to her, as it is to Sharapova.

Serena's winning percentage, like her win at RG, is evidence of her all-round class as a player, not her clay court talent. It also reflects the fact that she has been a top player for the last decade or so - other players' win-loss ratios is more reflective of their status at different times.

Beyond that Roland Garros, she will certainly not be 'far and away the most decorated clay court player bar Justine' as she will only have four clay court titles to her name even if she wins Berlin.

Amelie Mauresmo has 5 Tier I and II wins (Amelia Island 2001, Warsaw 2003, Berlin and Rome 2004 and Rome 2005)
Venus Williams has the same (Hamburg and Rome 1999, Hamburg 2001, Amelia Island 2002, Charleston 2004) plus a tier III win at Istanbul 2005
Nadia Petrova is not far behind with three tier I and II (Amelia Island, Charleston and Berlin 2006)
Ana Ivanovic, Svetlana Kuznetsova and Jelena Jankovic have not yet matched Serena but they have not been top players for ten years, so who would have expected them to, and besides Justine has ruled the roost for most of the last 5 years on clay.

Serena's win at Charleston was in fact the first time she had been in a clay final since she lost the final there to Justine in 2003. Since then it has largely been a story of semis and quarters, which would indicate that for most of the last five years, Serena has not even been second best.

Erm so you write a knee-jerk response and call me a troll. Nice going hypocrite.

There is no argument, you didn't present one, you simply launched into an imature tirade of belittlements and condescensions. Your response was thoroughly lacking in dignity and was treated accordingly.

Your response to my post however was much more well thought out and you made some good points. You obviously felt you had to make something substantiated to make up for your previous stupidity, which I called you out on.

I could if I chose, make a counter argument to your post. However at this moment in time, I'm inclined to agree with some of your points, so there wouldn't be much point.
