This is a great win from Vika. Just what she needed, too: a good battle against a frail top player to give her more confidence against the better opponents later.

She's beaten Hingis, Sharapova, Petrova, and now Chakvetadze. The talent and skill are obviously there, but she's still putting the pieces together. Keep it up, beautiful.

Perhaps a Miami 3R rematch with Kuznetsova? I wonder if Azarenka would have any chance of beating her there.

Demska
May 7th, 2008, 01:13 PM
Wow, if she had so many chances and didn't close it out she deserves to lose.

Bad luck Anna, really after Paris Indoor it's been shocking.

Bad for Chaky and if she keeps losing like that, not only will she quit the top 10 but she'll may miss the Olympics too (Vera needs to keep winning though).

Not sure why this wasn't on the main court though over something like Kuznetsova v Castano? :o

The top 4 seeds are playing there today, and Jankovic is ranked higher than Chaky. Expected.

Or maybe they knew Chaky would lose and decided to spare her the humiliation of losing in front of the crowd in Steffi Graf Stadion.

Bad for Chaky and if she keeps losing like that, not only will she quit the top 10 but she'll may miss the Olympics too (Vera needs to keep winning though).

Mmmm...depends on Tarpischev...but I think Vera doesn't have enough points to overtake Anna, however badly she may be playing.

Because of Paris's win.Besides that, she's 12-9 this year (10-9 without Fed cup) and has lost in her first match at Sydney, Antwerp, Doha, Charleston and Berlin. Her only top10 win is against Bartoli in Paris.

Some of you have to realize that despite some poor results, Anna is top 15 at the Race!!

At #15. And look at who is immediately behind her: Cornet, Cibulkova, Pennetta, Srebotnik, Mauresmo. And Li is #14 on the basis of four tournaments.

Chakvetadze has had two good tournaments this year out of ten. And she's on a three-match losing streak on the tour.

Only the top nine players in the race have actually done well this year. But at least we can say this year we have people playing well--that wasn't the case for most of 2007.

The perk for Anna to look at is that she's been losing tight matches lately, on clay, easily her worst surface. If this continues during grass, well. I don't have much hope for her during the summer hardcourt season, and THAT is what will make her ranking plummet. She could not play another match until after Wimbledon and stay top ten, probably.

Anna isn't leaving the top ten anytime soon, and I think (to my dismay) she'll have her shit together somewhat by the time Wimbledon is done, and capable of defending her Mickey Mouse points. Even if she doesn't and falls out of the top ten, this is just a classic sophomore slump, and she'd probably be back in 2009.

May 7th, 2008, 02:49 PM
just seems to me that Anna really isn't a clear top ten player and winning smaller tournaments might have given her enough ranking points to have got there, but the evidence is clear that she really belongs somewhere between 15-40 depending on who she gets drawn against.

OMG Victoria finally pulls out a tight one against a woman ahead of her in the rankings. This is a major boost to her confidence especially after the injury and the close battle last week.
Will be fun to watch tomorrow against Dulko who is playing amazing tennis on clay.

I think she deserved her place, she has the points on the 52 weeks ranking. That being said she sucks badly this year, it's a fact.
Anyway, people will have another player to trash soon because Bartoli has a good chance to comeback in top10 soon.So Chaky will have a break.lol.
