View Full Version : UK TV-alert: Vera in Transworld Sport (Fed Cup 2008 semi-final)

May 4th, 2008, 03:28 PM
(Transworld Sport may be televised in other countries, but the details in this message are specific to the UK.)

There are two points from the Fed Cup semi-final rubber between Vera Zvonarëva and Vania King in this week's Transworld Sport, which is repeated with sign-language at 03:15 BST on {Friday night/Saturday morning} on Channel 4.

The tennis was 5 minutes into Sunday's broadcast of Transworld Sport, and finished 7 minutes in, so I recommend 03:19 as a safe start-time for timer-record, and 03:27 as a safe stop-time (Transworld Sport has been known to start up to 5 minutes late).

For those of you who will want to know the answer to the question they ask (which player has played the most Fed Cup rubbers?), the answer was 44 minutes into Sunday's broadcast.

The points they showed:

* Vera serving 4-6 5-3 (40/0): Ace down the middle, just inside the service-line.

* Vera serving 4-6 6-3 5-2 (40/30): A big serve down the middle, just inside the service-line, forced King to hit a forehand return halfway up the net, giving Russia an unassailable 3:0 lead over the United States of America (the tie finished 3:2).

There's a brief glimpse of Anna Chakvetadze smiling and clapping in the stands.

Russia will play Spain in the Fed Cup final on 13th/14th September.

P.S. Congratulations to Vera for becoming the first player to reach four WTA singles-finals in 2008, and winning her first singles-title since Cincinnati 2006 at Prague!
