If Anna plays like she did against King, she won't get far at a Tier I.
One of these tournaments she will start playing well.

Possible 2nd Round against Vika and 3rd Round against Nicole.

Last year Anna won one round at Berlin losing to Lucie Safarova. She only got 35 points and this wasn't one of Anna's 17 best until this week when the Warsaw points (which was turned into an exo) came off.

She only needs to win one match to defend her points and gain a few. She can definitely manage that. I'll be interested to see who her 3rd round opponent is. Can Nicole get her game together? Dulko has been doing well recently.

Not the easiest draw but I hope Anna can get somewhere here.

Vika is playing the Prague final, so she won't be easy.
The way Anna is playing, almost anyone in this draw can beat her.
She has to improve to start going deep into Tier I draws.

Anna will lose in the second round

Quite possible, especially if she faces Vika.
I don't like this draw. Too many of my faves ended up in the same section

Welcome to the forums! :)

Good luck Anna! I think now would be a good time to start playing really good so that she can peak at the upcoming French Opena and then Wimbledon shortly there after.

1. Chakvetadze vs. Azarenka

Go Anna:bigclap::bigclap::bigclap:

Given recent form Vika is the favourite in this match. Anna could do herself a lot of favours ranking-wise by winning this one match. It will be very tough.

I concur, Azarenka is a slight favorite. Though I think that Azarenka has the kind of power game that clay really hinders. Whereas Anna's game is more balanced and thus less likely to be hindered by clay (or aided by glass).

Spiritof42
May 7th, 2008, 05:30 AM
Yes, one would think that clay doesn't particularly suit Azarenka's game, but she has a pretty good career record on this surface, with wins over the likes of Schiavone, Dulko, and Cibulkova, among others. Anna leads the H2H 2-0, but I don't think that means a whole lot right now.
A win on clay over an in-form Azarenka would be noteworthy. Not sure what to expect from this match, except probably lots of breaks of serve. :tape:

Good luck!

Anna is playing now. Had a great start but is falling apart a bit now.

Anna lost 6-1 6-7(1) 4-6.

Dismal, Vika is a great player but with the leads Anna had she should have closed it out. Served for the 2nd set and lead 4-1 in the 3rd.

:help: When is the clay season over?

More points lost today. Although it's maybe not the clay. Anna hasn't won two matches in a row since Dubai at the end of February. She's well off the pace in the Race and her ranking will take a massive hit if she doesn't perform at Roland Garros.

Unfortunately another loss here, the only good things are that Anna wins confortable the 1st set and that she can go from 2-5 to 6-5 in the second set, but so many wasted chanches, arghhhhhh.

I like Vika but this is a real let down for Anna. :(

She had a lot of chances from what has been said here and she just could not pull it out. I hope this is not a sign of things to come at the French Open.

From someone who saw the Match:

I saw the last 1.5 sets of the match and I thought that Chacky didn't play much worse than Azarenka and her first serve looked quite good as well. It's just that she is a mental wrack on the important points

Spiritof42
May 8th, 2008, 04:14 PM
Anna  That was major-league choking :help:

Failing to serve out the match at 6-5 in the 2nd wasn't much of a surprise, considering how many times this has happened before. Tanking the tie-break after that was pretty much expected. But blowing a 4-1 lead in the final set and losing 5 games in a row against a player who has been known to lose her cool and self-destruct in similar circumstances is pretty bad. I don't think the surface had anything to do with it. It's all between the ears. Please get your act together Anna :awww:
