Do you know anything about Russian Eugenia Linetskaya? I read she's moving to Belgium with her parents and they have asked for the Belgian nationality. She's 15 and should starting to play the 10,000$ tournaments soon.

She's already living in Belgium , all 3 of her events she has played in have been in Belgium.

She qualified for all 3 and reached final of 1st one.

She's very very good. She hasn't played much juniors either .
Evgenia is 14 still , not 15 until end of November.

There goes another of my girls <IMG SRC="smilies/frown.gif" border="0"> , couldn't have gone to a nicer nation though ( lucky Belgians).

Sofie .... where did you read this ????

no wonder we couldn't get her to play for us in the U16 event <IMG SRC="smilies/frown.gif" border="0">

But she can't change Nationalities in juniors so that wouldn't have mattered.
on WTA she would be BEL if change occurs but still RUS on junior circuit.

Thanks for all the info! <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

I read it in an article in Playtennis, a Belgian tennis magazine.

She's training at the VTV-Centre (Centre of Flemish tennis federation) in Wilrijk with Kirsten Flipkens, Debbrich Feys, Jessie Devries, Karin Kues, Caroline Maes and Leslie Butkiewicz. Apparently Elke Clijsters has left the VTV-centre.

Why would Eugenia Linetskaya move from Russia to Belgium? And then become a Belgian citizen? Everyone she loves most must be living in Russia. There are 17 Russian girls ranked in the ITF top 200. So, she has competition to practice with. I'm sure the Belgians have better facilities. But is that reason enough to trade in your vast Russian heritage and citzenship for Belgian citizenship? I don't get it. But good luck to her anyway.

I don't know why they moved. In the article it said her parents have decided to move to Belgium permanently and they are asking for the Belgian nationality. Apparently they already lived in Belgium for some part of the year.

Must be to do with sponsors , can't be coaching as her father is her coach.

more access to tournaments , no VISA requirement for lots of countries making it less of a problem ( but then thats a prob for most East Europeans at start of career)

Maybe she can have best of both worlds and still play for Russia.

Nadia Petrova lived in Egypt for part of her childhood and now lives in Poland due to her sponsors but she hasn't changed Nationality.

You can hold dual nationality.

I wouldn't want her to leave us but you will have a pretty good prospect.

Good luck to Eugenia .... hope she makes the most of her career.

why no russian girl come to germany??? <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0">
we need a new star!

Eggy, I asked the VTV-centre and they e-mailed me back that Leslie indeed wants to have the Belgian nationality and will play for Belgium asap. Sorry, I guess that's not very good news for you.
I also asked them why she decided to play for Belgium but they didn't answer that. Her manager (Gino Laureyssen) is also Belgian.

Sofie .... they calling her Leslie now ????

bad news indeed <IMG SRC="smilies/frown.gif" border="0">

but great for you <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0"> I'll still cheer for her <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

Oops ... silly me, I guess I was thinking about Leslie Butkiewicz when I was typing. She's still called Eugenia here. <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0">
