When are Alona & Katya playing again?

Epigone
Sep 23rd, 2008, 05:39 PM
Team Bondarenko profileSiblings can make perfect doubles partners, given the obvious insight they have into one another's psyches, but family tie-ups can also be a recipe for disaster. During their early years on Tour, Alona and Kateryna Bondarenko were disarmingly open about the difficulties inherent in playing with a family member at such a high level, and sometimes the strain would show. But at the Australian Open in 2008 they channeled their sibling energy to perfection, marching unseeded to a maiden Grand Slam title.

Since then, the Bondarenkos have presented a united front, after years of playing with a variety of partners. Holding on to their momentum from Melbourne, the sisters duly captured a second title at the Paris Indoors, and enjoyed solid results up to Roland Garros, by which time they were rated the No.7 seeds and made it to the last four. A right knee injury sustained at Wimbledon by Alona - at 24, two years the elder and higher ranked in singles, but a few inches shorter - then kept the pair out of action for the July hardcourt circuit.

But, despite the break, the Bondarenkos returned in fine style at the Beijing Olympics. The sister act of Serena and Venus Williams needed three sets to beat them in the semis; the Ukrainians subsequently fell to the Chinese pairing of Yan Zi and Zheng Jie in the bronze medal match. Likewise, there was no shame in a round of 16 loss at Flushing Meadows to Lisa Raymond and Samantha Stosur. Looking ahead, it seems inevitable their achievements will include elevating their country to Fed Cup World Group status, having almost managed that feat in 2008.

2008 SUMMARY
WON (2): Australian Open, Paris [Indoors]; SF (3): Antwerp, Roland Garros, Olympics; QF (2): Indian Wells, Berlin

i saw all the matches...and the only that Argentinian team could win was the match between Cravero and Koryttseva. Alona played wonderfully, and she so gorgeous :) I think Irigoyen showed Alona difficulities in a few parts of the match but nothing else.
Alona's Backhand was really brilliant!
I would like to see Dulko in my country's team but she prefers training for Stuttgart :( Anyway Ukraine must be the winner and i like to see Alona playing like that.
