View Full Version : Where's the Belgian talent?

Oct 4th, 2001, 06:34 PM
I wonder if we have more young talents then Justine and Kim. Elke Clijsters seems to be talented, but not like Kim. Do we have other talents who can make it?

Kirsten Flipkens has been touted .... but her initial results haven't been too good but she's had bad draws

There are hardly any Belgians on the Junior ranks

yeah, Flipkins is the future. She wants a website in my network at http://www.tennisballerz.com I talked to her yesterday.

Interesting sites, Seldom! I hope you do one about Kirsten.
How is she doing? She had some injury and was out for a few weeks, but I think she's training again now, right?

There's also Elke, Leslie Butkiewicz, Caroline Maes, Debbrich Feys, Jessie Devries. But they are not in the same league as Kim or Justine. Maybe we can just hope they can enter the top 100. Though I read some article a few months ago about Devries. She said her ambitions were to get into the top 20.

I read a few good things about Benedicte Vliegen (does anyone know if she's related to Kristof Vliegen?), but she's only 13.

Aude Vermoezen (If I remeber well from what Arn said on the WTA board) is a promising young player. I think she's only 12. But I'm not sure.

they won't have to worry too much soon from what Sofie tells me ...

Eugenia Linetskaya is applying for Belgian Nationality ...

she's pretty good .... just check the Eggy ....a question post in this section

I've never seen Elke play before, but from what I've read she's a different player than Kim, not a power player.
Some people said she was the better player, but you can't keep saying that anymore.

Elke has a lot of problems with her back, she's been injured so much, she also has left the VTV tennis centre. So I don't know if she'll ever become a professional player. I hope things will turn around for her.

And I read Kirsten also has serious back problems and was/is out for a long time <IMG SRC="smilies/frown.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/frown.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/frown.gif" border="0">

Kirsten is training again since last week, I believe.

What about Hanne Cammasse? I heard she's pretty good too.

TBE, is Eugenia really applying for Belgian nationality? I suppose she lives her cause she played all the Belgian challengers this summer.

Oct 12th, 2001, 07:55 PM
Yes I read about Hanne Camassa, I don't know how good she really is.

Josh, do you have this month's playtennis? There's an interview with Serge Capentier, a coach at the tenniscentre in Wilrijk. It's on page 46. There it says her family has applied for the Belgian nationality. Maybe she will keep both nationalities and play for Russia. I'm not sure.

Ah yes, I just read the article. Thanks Sofie! <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

I think Leslie Butkiewicz and Caroline Maes are the only good players of those who are called "belgian talents".

Elke hasn't been playing well this year and Kirsten, Evelyne, Debbrich and all the others aren't as talented as Kim or Justine. I'd be happy if they reached the top-200!!!

Elke really should play more if she wants to get a higher ranking! She's ranked 850 or something now! <img src="rolleyes.gif" border="0">
