View Full Version : Prediction: Sharpie vs Serena

If Sharpie doesn't withdraw before the match due to "fatigue", it's not hard to guess that she will be totally annihilated by Serena and her "shoulder injury" will recur for another 9 months just like post AO 07.

If she gets past Medina Garrigues this time I'm sure she will again have the confidence to play Serena. I doubt she will be able to take it to three sets but I'm sure she won't be annihilated, she's the one with match practice on green clay and it is Serena's weakest surface (though she is still a better clay-courter).

Serena in 2 very easy sets

I was not convinced at all by Maria's clay court tennis in AI
She actually looked like a cow on ice!

Maria needs to get past Medina again before playing Serena.

She sure does, but mental toughness will be enough to get past Anabel again. Medina could lead 5-0 in the third but I think Sharapova will still be able to wrench 7 games in a row. Or take it to a tiebreak, which she'll dominate.

Against Serena...mental toughness isn't as big a factor since Serena is so mentally tough too. Whoever wins the first set will win when the other retires. My bet: Serena 6-4 ret.

where do these morons keep coming up from?
and even if serena beats maria 6-1 6-1 theres nothing for maria to be ashamed about

and btw serena too has to reach the quarters

lets just wait untill they both reach the qtrs as these girls have a habit of withdrawing/retiring.

either way both will discount the loss against each other as they will say 'it was green clay my worst surface' as mentaly neither will wanna give an edge to the other.

Serena should win this match if it happens. Not only is she the better player overall, she's much better on clay than Maria is because she moves better. Serena can slide, play defense and move the ball around with patience - three things that Maria struggles with.

let them both get there first!!! for starters its both their weakest surface so an early loss wouldnt be suprising, secondly in the past 12 months they have been the queens of withdrawals so until i see both of them on court for their first match i'll start seriously contemplating a quarter final match up!

IF they happen to meet

Serena would win
like in two sets easily...

base on Serenas Miami form

ummmm one or both of them could be out before the QF (this is clay afterall) so could people just stop getting ahead of themselves

let's wait and actually see what kind of clay court form Serena has before we start making all these crazy predictions

It will happen like this:

Serena will go up 6-1 3-1.
Yuri will leave.
Sharpie will look hopeless and lose the next 3 games in 5 mins.
After the match she'll give credit to Serena but mention he shoulder injury.
Then she will withdraw from next tournament.
Then she will lose in the first round.
She will lose in the 3rd round of RG.
She will disappear until Wimbly due to "shoulder injury".

My prediction? CosmicDefender is and always will be pathetic

Sharapova-Serena will be close. Neither of them are amazing on clay but both are great fighters

You guys are very uncreative with your thinking. Some of you think because of the 2 meetings early last year that all future matches are going to go down the same way. Now yes I dont expect much from Maria this tournament for 2 reasons. Its clay and I have yet to see anyone lately win a tournament and play the next week and not be out of it.
One thing you guys should remember Maria when playing well can beat Serena or at least give her a tight match. She is the only woman outside of Serena sister to beat her in a grand slam final afterall.

By the way, Verdasco looks horrible in that red top.

Serena in 2.

She's better on clay than Maria, but in no way do I expect it to be a 1 and 1 thrashing like their Miami meeting last year. It would be great if it went 3, but I think Serena will win it in 2 (provided that they both reach the quarters).
