Crap! I thought for sure that Cornet would win this Tourtament. Oh well I hope Domi beats Sharapova!!!! but i think Sharapova might win her first clay Court title here. I hope not though.

Great fight in the 3rd set.Cornet should have killed the match in the beginning of the 3rd but after that she felt short physically.Deserved win for Cibulkova, and a great week for her.

The last set was just excellent, both girls did all they had. Alizé has more weapons on her side but Dominika's shape made the difference.
The only thing I am regretting is about this MP, why on hell Alizé went for a dropshot when she had a easy putaway to make :o:lol:.
Congrats Dominika on your first but well deserved final. A great week for Alizé too :).

Great job, Hantuchova's half sister!! I thought you would choke/collapse like her, but somehow you fought and made it even though you had a choke serving at *5-3 15-0.

Fantastic win. Cibulkova is so fun to watch because she just fights for every point. She also had great body language throughout.

Congrats to "Marathon Girl" (aka LITLE TERRIER) for biggest career success so far and first "big" final. BTW is anybody else notice that Dominika started to use here same game-model cliche - maximum in first set, than big down in 2nd and great fight in final 3rd set. Four copycat matches in the row is too much to be just coincidence and it's litle remind me on new Zvonareva tactics (since USO/07) to play 1st set like sh*t and than totaly regroup herself and playing her best tennis. In both cases is strange - but obviously works!

Azarenka 7-5 4-6 6-2
Chakvetadze 6-2 3-6 6-1
Mauresmo: 6-1 7-6
Cornet: 6-2 2-6 6-4
Sharapova 6-0 0-6 ?-?

P.S.

I agree. Alizé needs more meat on her bones to survive such physical matches. Anyhow, those two will thrive on clay. They really have the game for it.

So glad I realized there was livestreaming on sopcast by the third set. :o:banana:

Congrats Dominika. I will be cheering for you in the final! I'm just curious to see how all the moonballing will work against Sharapouf. :haha:

I didn't see the first set. In the second Cornet was very aggressive playing some nice angles and dtl shots with a lot of pace and basically overpowered Cibulkova, who also made some needless errors. In the third Cornet stopped playing like in the second, don't know if she was tired or started feeling pressure of a possibility to win the match. Dominika made a maximum from the advantage of serving first in the set. She saved 2 BP's in the middle of the set and held her serve in which was the key game of the whole match. After that Alize was getting tighter and tighter on her own serve as the match progressed. Cibulkova broke her to take 5-3 lead, choked (I think this word is overused on this board, but it really was the case here), but managed to break again in the following game to make her first ever final at such a big tourney. :yeah:
There was a big difference in body language of both girls, Dominika quite composed while Alize showed her temperament, which I don't think helped her in key moments.

that third set was some awesome stuff from both girls. long, exciting rallies. lots of different play and looks from both. Never doubted that Domi would win this except maybe a teeny bit in the very beginning of the 3rd, she was just to solid. I love her demeanor and fight on court, and I have to say I have no idea how she hits every ball so deep without hitting it long more often, her range is soo impressive. Now take it to pova :bounce:

well I think everyone knows that the serve (despite her general high first serve percentage) isn't exactly one of Domi's strengths  Her return on the other hand.... She did really well at 5-4 to just first of all keep the return in play and make Alize battle hard if she wanted a chance of leveling up the score.

Really great stuff from Domi to hang tough and grind out that win. These hard-fought 3 set wins will continue to do wonders for her mental strength. Loved her jumping celebration at the end too.
One thing she needs to address though is taking a few more risks when she gets a short ball or an opportunity to come forward. Too many times in that final set she would set up an easy short ball for herself but rather than taking it on would retreat right back to the baseline and start the point over again....could just make life so much easier for herself:lol:

She's a counterpuncher. Strong and solid off the ground. In Miami, she was really hitting some gorgeous passing shots, bringing the opponent to the net with a dropshot.

Domi has a new fan in me!

She is so cute, and the third set was of very high quality, this is the kind of match i have been waiting for in this tournament. It was great to see two young girls totally in their element playing competitively and of high quality.

Alize  Tough luck, i hope she goes far in Charleston because she definitely deserves it.

I hope Cibulkova puts up a fight against Sharapova, i would even go as far as say i hope she wins!

How the heck did Cornet lose that game? She was the better player and at her best is miles better than Cilbulkova.

I really enjoyed what I saw of this match (I didn't see the first set).

It was such a 'physical' contest with some bruising rallies (I felt tired just watching some of those rallies - I don't want to think how poor Dominika and Alizé must have felt at times ;) ) - they were both fighting and giving it everything.

It was my first time 'properly' watching Cibulkova and I really like her. I wish her luck against Maria tom, no, TODAY... *checks time* ;) She has a great game for clay and seems to have a great attitude too.

I always enjoy watching Cornet - I hope she'll keep rising up the ranks too. (She reminded me of my favourite player Anke Huber at times - I don't know, maybe that's just me and some kind of 12:30 am 'perception'... ;) ) Good luck to Alizé in her next tournament!! :)
