Ailing Davenport quits Bausch & Lomb

AMELIA ISLAND, Fla. - Lindsay Davenport has withdrawn from the Bausch & Lomb Championship semifinals Saturday because she was feeling ill.

Tournament director John Arrix said Saturday that Davenport couldn't get out of bed and was dizzy. Arrix says Davenport's illness may stem from the cold her 9-month-old son had earlier this week.

Davenport was to have played top-seeded Maria Sharapova. Sharapova now gets a walkover to Sunday's title match, her first final on clay.

A shame for both. Davenport could have avenged her premature AO defeat and now Sharapova hasn't earned her first clay court final. Although she can redeem herself by winning the title and she probably will now given the (relative) weakness of the other semifinalists.

Every autumn in the UK there are big problems with the trains and we're told it's due to leaves on the track; when questioned BR says they are 'different leaves', and so cause delays. Maybe Lindsay's cold is different to others because she caught it from her baby son? (Can't get out of bed? I've never had a cold like that  - I think her agent is exaggerating somewhat!)

If she wasn't stuck to her son H24, sure it would change lots of things. She looks like an overprotective mom. I saw her with him in AI kind of party for the making of the draw and all. She needs to let the babyboy live a leats just a little bit already :o

Lindsay
Well, if she's feeling dizzy I don't want her to play because there's a chance she could faint. And she fainted two years ago at home and suffered a concusion because of it. It's best she rests up.

Get well soon, Linds

As much as I like Lindsay, but I think she doesn't give a damn about winning big titles, or beating the top players....She has the attitude of just playing a couple of tournaments and see how it goes! That s perfectly fine, but also disappointing as we all know how big her abilities are! Now, i don't think we will ever see her playing for a big title again :(

I have said this a few times now and I will say it again. If Lindsay was fit there is no doubt in my mind she would've played and she came to the tournament site and give a quick statement and apologised to the tournament organisers and fans that doesn't sound like someone who doesn't give a crap. She has a viral infection they think she caught from Jagger.

i agree. She has this "I don't care" attitude that it's fucking up draws...like here I mean she took out Szavay then she doesn't care to show up to play the SF. And yes a cold can be bad but she has access to MILLIONS of drugs that can stop the sympthoms for few hours. She also showed this attitued when saying she wants to play Rome because she's never been in Italy. So she'll probably play a few matches to make up the costs then she'll retire to go on vacation.

Shame on you Fakenport. You should stick to travel agencies if all you want is travel around:tape:

She didn't play Radwanska :weirdo: And it was more than just a cold, she couldn't get out of bed this morning, why go out there when she'd have to retire after 3/4 games.

it was a typo she took out Szavay who could have gone a long way since she likes clay. But this is not the point. The point is that she didn't show professionalism lately.

:weirdo: x1000000 Lindsay has every right to play tennis and travel. That's what she wants to do. She's rich enough and (more importantly) good enough to pick her events and do whatever she wants. It's not a tough struggle for everyone, you know. Lindsay has other priorities than tennis but that doesn't mean she should stop. She has fainted before from being dizzy, so obviously she didn't want it to get worse this time. So she rightfully withdrew. She's got Fed Cup in a week, and more importantly she has a baby to look after.

True. She should have retired during her match against Szavay because she knew that she couldn't play the next day because of that illness .

Oh wait, it would have been unfair for Sprem. In fact, she shouldn't have played the tournament at all...

You don't have kids, do you? Lindsay caught the cold from her son, which means he's not sleeping, which means Mama's also not sleeping. Playing Maria Sharapova at 100 percent is daunting enough, but when you're sick AND sleep-deprived? I don't think so.

I'm sure that if Lindsay have possibility to choose time and place for her match against Sharapova - that will be Amelia Island at green clay b/c all other her favorite tournaments is also already favorite tournaments of Maria Sharapova. So no chance that Lindsay simple escape from this match if she is not forced to withdraw b/c big health problems. I realy dont see anything impressive in Maria 2008 claycourt debut especialy if we compare that with her Australian hardcourt episode... I hope Lindsay will reach this season another oppurtunity like this to reach some big title and also to have TOP10 comeback at end of year.

Its not Lindsay's fault that Szavay couldn't beat her
